In search of wellness and weightloss buddies

Hi I'm Rebecca and I've not been on here for such a long time! So basically newbie I guess.
I don't really have a weight loss target, more a body image and lifestyle changes and would love to be part of a squad who encourage, motivate and challenge positively. I've lost some weight already and figure it would be nice to lose a couple more stone, but a brighter complexion, stronger legs, and flatter tummy would be amazing too!!! Not body building, Christ I don't have the commitment or youth for that; I'm post menopausal, pretty active and trying to cut down on a few things and build up a few others; does that make sense? 🤔😘
No mood hoovers please - this is a good vibe squad 😘

Hi Rebecca. My name is Melanie. I am 58 and obviously post menopausal. From Alberta, Canada. Similar to you, I want to improve on similar areas. I do enjoy strength training but am not obsessed with training. I have been flailing the last couple of years- trying coaches and programs. Realized I know what to do- get back to basics- and just get it done already!
Hope we can connect and make some progress.Melanie

Hi Melanie, you're spot on 👍 I have had personal trainers, joined various clubs etc and learned so much from all of them! Like you, I just need to do it and be accountable to myself.
I have started weighing every day at the same time of the morning! I find the small changes very motivating to make the right choices that day; and encourage me to try a little harder or cut myself some slack.
I've also started to measure myself weekly, just hips, waist, and chest; but again this is helping me to stay a little focused without getting over the top!
I don't have any big targets, just want to see all round improvements. Do you have any specific targets or focal points you're aiming for just now, like a big event or something? Xx

Hi Rebecca,
And Melanie, my name is Lynda and I’ve pretty much joined every training app out there trying to lose weight and just have a healthier lifestyle and be more active and have more energy, but it’s been really hard. I am 52 perimenopausal. and have gained 20 pounds in the past couple years I used to be a pretty slim fit up until about mid 40s join MyFitnessPal on and off and finally decided to pay for the premium+ so I can really make a commitment and follow through,,my first time ever reaching out to a community so I don’t know what to expect, but hope to find more friends and encouragement through this! Hope everyone has a great start to your weekend, positive vibes of staying on the healthy track! 👍🏼🏃🏻♀️🤗

Hi @MrsRManship and @lyndaroco ,
It sounds like we have a lot in common. I think most women in their 50s could probably say the same. It’s a big change that I didn’t think would be a big deal but some of the changes really hit me hard about a year ago. I gave up for about that year then thought WTF are you doing? I don’t like me like this.
I’m not setting weight goals or have an event coming up. I do want to lose body fat- I think I will know when that end point will be. Mainly I want to stop the craziness- restriction, bingeing, drinking too much. The lethargy that comes with it. I can’t blame it all on menopause- really for the amount of crap I often binge on I should be much heavier.
My main goal is to reduce the amount of white stuff- sugar, bread, pastries, cookies, ice cream- you know all that stuff. Reduce alcohol consumption to a couple of glasses of wine a week. Walk a bunch and strength training 4 days a week. All definitely doable- just gotta do it.What are your goals/plans?
BTW- Love your pic Rebecca 😊

Good morning Melanie and Lynda,
You're both expressing what I'm feeling too. Too much of the destructive, fast, lazy options, and not enough of the nutritious, wholesome, active options.
I'm not a slob. I'm a busy, active outdoors girl who self sabotages consistently. I binge on good habits and regimes but don't give them chance to embed properly.
Last week I did really well - had some great treats over the weekend, it's Easter after all, and I've even cooked some healthy meals to batch.
Something I have done is kept my original start weight on here, back from Jan 2014!
That's an eye opener as I'm still 1.5 stone above that weight… so I guess if I was going to set a scales goal it would be reasonable to aim for that weight at least!
We are what we eat, right! 🥦🍉🫛🌰
So I'm eating nutritious, colourful, fresh stuff… a bit less meat, a lot less processed foods, less alcohol/more alcohol free days… I like to fast sometimes so maybe I should introduce some intermittent fasting habits again.
Have either of you tried fasting?
Xx

Hey Rebecca-
You are preaching to the choir. I am able to be consistent in so many aspects of my life but this is where I give in. I have blamed it on so many things but have finally realized that those are just stories I tell myself to ease the guilt of bingeing.
My husband used to call me an exercise binger- and I was! Trying to burn off what I over ate. The crazy workouts I would do while working a physically demanding job. When I look back I now realize how crazy I was. I can barely remember my 30s and 40s. This is why I enjoy this time in my life- I have the time to reflect and realize the bingeing was me being out of control. Life has slowed down a lot and I am grateful for that. It gives me the time to eat properly, exercise moderately, and even just have time for a daily walk.I have tried IF but for me that signals restriction and leads to bingeing. I am trying to get 3 solid meals in a day to keep myself from getting hungry. But that is from my years with the restrict/binge cycle. I know it works for a lot of people that have a better relationship with food. Also I think some folks just don't get that hungry whereas I do and can't stop thinking about when it will end so I can eat.
Let me know if you decide to try it and how it goes for you.
Melanie
