Rude and Unsupportive Posts.

Didn't you learn that didn't work that well in like, elementary school? No one likes being told they're wrong. How about you focus on your own weight loss and stop telling people how they should handle it?
Ummmm, because people are on the forum looking for advice? And then when they receive advice they don't want to hear, they get all butthurt and offended?
It's not like anyone is knocking on people's doors uninvited and asking if they've heard the truth about the evils of juicing. This isn't unsolicited advice. It's solicited advice that people then rudely reject.0 -
If you mean it and you're not being sarcastic, I'll support you.
agree.
I have friends in real life that chose the juicing route and I just ignore it when they bring it up.
I had a friend in real life who had breast cancer and a good prognosis, who decided to treat it "naturally," until it didn't go away and it was too late to treat it.
I figure either she didn't really have cancer or she used Western medicine and lied about it. And so many people are still buying her BS.
The new one is sugar feeds cancer, so if you avoid sugar your tumors will just die.
My grandfather's wife has decided to treat her breast cancer thusly (at least she had the surgery). This is the same woman who thinks if you have typ 2 diabetes, you can't eat flour, but ice cream cake is perfectly fine and as much as you want.0 -
Troll post.
it most certainly is not and your response is both inappropriate and inaccurate.
More trolling.
You must be new here...
It's like when you have friends and you see that they are doing something unhealthy, and they don't want to listen to anything unless it goes along with what they are doing...and then they get sick/injured because of it and just don't understand WHY...
ETA - when you see that they're doing something unhealthy, and they ASK you about it first, and THEN don't want to listen. I don't tend to just throw unsolicited advice out there, unless it's someone like my sister or something.0 -
hmmmmmmm Making friends are we????:laugh:0
-
How about you focus on your own weight loss and stop telling people how they should handle it?
There's always someone that says that to these sorts of threads, but then if we all took that view, there would be no help for those people that plateau and want to know why.0 -
Mostly he's proving right everyone who says certain people call troll because someone disagrees with them.
This guy disagrees with BB and therefore, BB is a troll.
Not particularly.
I just don't buy into the belief that his intention was to merely express dismay at the state of affairs on this board re: juices and cleanses.
That is simply my opinion.0 -
So you're giving unsolicited advice to someone who not only didn't ask for it, but doesn't want it, and you wonder why they are not being supportive?0
-
I have no problem with people who like to juice in order to get more nutrients in there diet, with morning shakes or snack shakes, juicing some fruit to hide vegetables to get their kids a rounded diet. Sometimes people just don't like certain foods, but can tolerate them if they are hidden in juice form. I have no problem if that is the way they like to eat their fruits and veggies.
I do have a problem with those who think that if they drink raspberry keystone lolly pop juice for 3 weeks straight that it will rid their bodies of toxins that are caused by space bunnies. Okay...well, maybe that is a bit over the top but you guys get the idea.0 -
You should go back and review the rules of posting. It is not your job to supervise or put down someone else's belief but the job of the MFP Devs. Incitement is also not allowed. If you find something offense or unhealthy it is suggest that you report the post so they can take care of it. Not start a post to demean the activity which is clearly against the rules.0

If someone doesn't want advice, why post on a public forum asking for advice?0 -

By defnition, that is SOLICITED advice.
You might want to ask for a dictionary for Christmas this year. Or Chanukah. Or your birthday. Whatever you celebrate.0 -

No I am. The great thing about the people on my FL is they are diverse and have their opinions and allow me to have mine without judgement.
I believe the opening post was meant to be provocative, especially the final sentiment.
As such, I am being equally provocative.0 -

People prefer higher impact fiction to reality in many areas of life - for example, we have way more insurance salesmen around than action men, but way more movies about action men than insurance salesmen - and I guess nutrition is one of those areas for some people.
They can't get excited about slowing changing their nutrition and fitness habits to change themselves, but detoxing and losing 15lbs in a week sounds fantastic!0 -

And your intention was to illuminate and unite in the OP was it?
If anything it divides people rather than bring them closer together.
Them v us.

A good rule of thumb: if you are going to break the rules of safe/sane weight loss that this board is designed for (read: VLCD) you had better have a darn good reason and you had better be carefully monitored by a physician.
Call it a "cleanse" if you will, it is still going to be a stress on your system. The benefits may outweigh the risks, but they don't usually.
The worst woo juice infused advice I have ever seen anyone give was a few years ago in my gym's sauna. One guy told another lady that she should sit in the sauna for hours, until she stops sweating, because "sweating is how your body releases toxins. When you stop sweating, you know you are clean."0 -

Agreed. I'm always surprised by how many people seem disappointed after learning how I'm losing weight. Not glamorous enough.0 -
Posting something for discussion that is a bit controversial is not trolling.
I agree.0 -
I make a vegetable/fruit juice in my nutri bullet a few times per week just to quickly and easily shove in extra servings of vegetables and fruit or for a healthy snack. I cannot imagine juicing for days. It sounds unpleasant.0

if you think this thread is about juicing, then you have failed to grasp the essential essence of the OP.
this thread is NOT about juicing. this thread is about support, or rather, the expectation by some members that their opinions deserve unconditional support and that the opinions of others that disagree with them, do not.0 -
Do what works for YOU, period! No debate needed.0
-
There may be a couple of reasons why OP started this thread, but speaking up against the nonsense that people spill into the juice fast or VLCD or whatever threads should be done. There is nothing wrong with calling out bullcrap.0

I do a vitamin enriched detox ever 6 months. It IS advised and supported by my doctor.
If you are going to make claims be aware people are passionate about what they do.0 -
I think it goes kind of like this:
Person Starting Thread: I'm starting an XYZ cleanse to detoxify my kidneys/liver/colon/brain/insert organ of choice here. Does anyone know how well it will work?
Response: The XYZ cleanse isn't good for you because (insert scientifically proven fact here)...
OP: But I had friends that lost a lot of weight on that cleanse.
Response: That may be true, but then when they started eating regularly again, did they gain it all back?
OP: Well, yeah, but I won't because I'm speshul like that...and I think you're being a bully and cleanse-shaming...
And off it goes...anyone that tries to help the OP and disagrees is totes a bully, and mean...0 -

your mind reading skills are not as adept as you believe them to be.0 -
Do what works for YOU, period! No debate needed.
What if what works for you is dangerous?
Should we take an evolution mentality and just say.. hey, if someone wants to hurt themselves, then let them. Only the strong survive?0 -

Some of the OPs of those threads actually change their minds, though, after people post the science and logic stuff. So it's still worth it in the end.0 -
I'm sorry, I appreciate the efforts0
