I'm sitting at Sonic, parked in my car. I am blocked by the unnecessarily large menu from seeing the family in the minivan next to me.

Man: Shut up b1tch, you can get out and walk home!
Woman: I will! And don't bother coming home neither!
Kid in the back: Mom, I wanna...
Woman: Shut up and sit before he beats you again!
Kid: Momma! I wanna...
Man: You dumb c, get out.
Woman: After I get my corn dog!

Five more minutes of same, including accusations of hitting a pregnant woman, more cursing, and a mildly entertaining riff on not being trashy in public (which naturally happens with the windows wide open using outside voices).

Car hop shows up.

Car hop: 'scuse me, you ordered sixteen corn dogs?
Woman: Yeah.
Car hop: $22.09.

They pay and leave, stone silent. Like somehow their minivan rolling out has made them audible again, so they should be quiet.

I love Oklahoma. Not.

Yep. Hand was on the door and ready to rock, but no such luck. Mostly it sounds like a really unhealthy dynamic. No hitting went on while they were there, and I was about five feet from their open window...even a hint the kid was being hurt and I would have moved. The adults deserved each other.
