Ok 60 done. 15:15:15:15, though I did spread them over the evening. You know a weird thing? I always find the 1st set the most difficult and then starting the sets are easier ...ending is always tough!0

Post shows 62 comments on this topic. So just did two more!0

Yippie, 63!
Edit for details:
3x15, 1x10, 1x8
Last 2 sets were wide arms.
I achieved my goal of 3 sets of 15. ::happy:0 -
Yayyy!! @ Barbonica....good job with getting to your goal of 3 sets of 15.
I just did 64, 4x10 and 2x12.
Still doing regular push ups. Working on my form and getting lower. I think I have perfected the form...at least and strength is also increasing, or so I believe!
See you tomorrow!0 -
50 and 15! Great topic!0

I can't even do one! You did this to torment me, didn't you? Okay, first thing in the morning I will try again.0

Commenting at risk of having to do another 67 push ups to reply to acogg. Do them off your knees or do negative push ups where you just lower yourself down from the top position. Absolutely no shame in that! When I started, I could only do 5 or so.
Edit: 67 more completed. 25, 25, 170 -
doing 67 uh this is going to hurt lol0

Nope ,it doesn't count until it is full on. I can do halves now. I want the full on, lift myself from a lowered position. I am not there yet. Thank you for encouraging me. Someday, I will lift myself.0 -
Got my 70 in this morning:
3X15, 12, 13 Last 4 were REALLY pathetic, only made it half way down. My trainer would have called "no rep" on me, but I am kinder to myself.
Welcome to our newcomers!
@ acogg - I know you want to do boy push-ups; this is a great way to train for them. We all started by doing girl push-ups, or against the wall or counter. I bet if you join in the game, by the end of the month you will achieve your goal. Both NU2012 and I have seen significant improvement over the past 2 weeks!
@ Stuartlan - I applaud your enthusiasm; but to clarify the rules, you don't have to do the push-ups every time you post, only once per day. You are clearly a more advanced participant, so please come back to continue to provide us push-up wisdom and knowledge. :flowerforyou:
CU tomorrow!0 -
Good luck! I did this with running a while ago it's pretty fun!0

Oh look...0

Here's another one!0

Whoopsies. It's for your own good0

Ohhh !! After seeing the number of push-ups increasing comment by comment, I really want to do today's push-ups RIGHT NOW ...at work.... but I am sure my colleagues will think I am crazy if I suddenly get down on the floor and start doing push-ups. In the evening..but from tomorrow first thing in the morning is push-ups!!
@ Stuartlan : yeah you do not have to do a push-up every time you post in a day...once a day is good. But if you want to do 70+ push-ups for every post...you can....and hats off to you!!
@acogg : As Barbonica said, we have seen a lot of improvement with this. Plus to tell you the truth, I started doing real push-ups (not on my knees) only with this topic. And so far I am managing.0 -
Ok 76 done. 10:13:20:20:13.
Did 2 sets of 20 push ups. I like ....i like!! Now I have to work on getting closer to floor!!
@ Barbonica....Thanks for doing this with me!!0 -
I lowered myself with good control. I lost it again coming back up. I tried several times. Felt good, but I couldn't lower myself AND raise myself in the same try. I am feeling a little discouraged, but I am not 165 pounds and am so much healthier and stronger than when I started. I almost have it, it is getting closer. I will try again tomorrow.0
-
OK, this is getting REALLY hard!
3X10, 18, 3X10 = 78
@ acogg: keep on trying, you will get it. When I decided to learn to do push-ups, it took me over 2 months to do 1! Since you can lower yourself under control, try this... start in push-up position, lower yourself all the way to the ground. Lift your hands off the ground to confirm you have no resistance on your arms/shoulders/chest. Put you hands back on the floor, and push. I don't know why, but it is slightly easier to come up when you start by lying on the floor (at least, I find it to be so). If you can't get up doing this, then keep doing the "lowering" part in boy push-up position, then drop your knees and come back up in girl push-up position. It is a journey, and each step gets you closer.
@ NU2012 - thank YOU for organizing the game! I am getting better/stronger and having fun all at the same time!
CU all tomorrow!0 -
Ok...79 done , 3x20, 1x19.
I know...now it's getting really tough. I did all in one go but will be doing over the day tomorrow. My left arm hurts, so hopefully it feels better after stretching a bit.
@ acogg, I don't go very low, but I go as low I can and each day, I try to go a little lower while going down in a push-up. http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/02/15/proper-push-up/ <-- this might be helpful for you. It shows how you can start with a wall push-up and proceed.0 -
80 done!
40, 40
Still a great topic! I'm keep coming back expecting it to be at something like 200 comments!0 -
20, 17, 13, 10 = 60.... long break... take a walk.... ouch...
10, 7, 4 = 21
Total 81
I think I am slowing down. Will probably take a recovery day off tomorrow (we will see how I feel after my lifting session this afternoon). Either which way, I will check in. 100, here we come!!! Not so sure about 200...
@ Stuartlan, you are an inspiration.
@ NU2012, so are you! Your endurance rocks!
@ acogg, how are you coming along? Don't leave us now!
ETA - added totals0 -
Ok 82 done. 14:16:8:24:20.... Two sets I did in my gym class, rest later.
Please take a recovery day as and when you need it. I might need one too..let's see. Yes 100, here we come!!
Let's do as far as we can get and then, if you want, we could start with 1 again? So as to not lose our stamina? What do you think? Or we can stay @ a particular number (maybe 50 ??) for a few days (a week or as long as it takes??) and work on trying to reach that number in one set?
I wonder how many push-ups a day is considered safe? People mentioned they do 100/day so that is a good number...I guess0 -
Been doing this with you just haven't posted much. Sorry, Hope I am not taking away from the spirit of the challenge.0
-
85! 55 and 30.
I was feeling pretty good up until 52. It all went downhill quickly in those last 3. I was aiming for 60, but it wasn't going to happen.
Someone go invite people to this thing so we can get to 100 at least!0 -
@ Stuartlan - thank goodness, I thought you were some kind of push-up robot! Glad to know that even you have limits.
I workout with a trainer 2X a week, and also run. I think I have to figure out the proper balance of everything so I do have recovery days in here that support my other activities. For example, I did a stupid thing by running 4.75 miles on Thurs (my longest run ever), when I knew it was leg day on Fri. Duh... not a good lifting session. Apparently planning is a good thing, who knew?
I like keeping this going even after we hit 100, but don't want to go back to 1. Maybe we should think about weekly goals? Not sure how to work that into this, but that way we could all set our own daily schedule more easily?
@ DEVLe: glad you have been playing along!0 -
Ok 87 done!! 16:21:20:10:20. I wanted to do the last set for 30 but at 10 I gave up!
@ DevLe: Not at all!! So good to know you are also with us...
@ Barbonica: Wow...4.75 miles. Are you training for a half marathon or something or you just like running? I am being tempted by running with so many runner friends I have. But that would have to wait till the weather is more pleasant. Yeh planning is a good thing :-)
Weekly goals sounds like a good idea....I was personally thinking of dividing the push-ups after I get to 100. Some wall push-ups, some on an incline, some on knees and some proper....So that I can work on other parts of the push-up process.....
@ StuartIan: Oh 100 we will definitely reach....what is the other high number we can aim at??0 -
Just a thought but what about after 100 alternate days. Push-ups one day an then day two work another area. Day three push-ups and so on.
Just an idea.
Great job everyone keep it up0 -
89. 50 and 39.
There was a time when push ups was all I did too workout. Before I bought weights and other equipment. I don't do them enough these days. This is a good excuse to build back up.0 -
89...
25, 15, 15, 15, 12, 7
Wow! My first set felt great. All the way down, with explosive power back up. Well, at least for the first 22.
@ nu2012, I am not really training because that indicates a plan, but I want to do a 10k in the spring. I have run 2 5ks, this fall. I started running a year or so ago, and am starting to like it.
I vote that nu2012 decides the next phase, as our leader. Not til we hit 100, of course! A couple of suggestions are out there now, what do you think?
Great work team,; 100 - here we come!0 -
chest day today, i'm in0
