Question for those that have had trust issues and no longer do, or jealousy issues - how do you get over them?

First, I developed self esteem - being in any relationship without it is not a good idea.

Then, I decided that I could only control my own choices in the relationship. I am going to trust the other person and I cannot control what the other person decides to do with my trust.

This is almost exactly what I was going to say.

My sex life is pretty awesome, actually. The sex scenes in that book were stomach-churningly awful. And repetitive. And there was not one "shocking" thing about any of it.
I dont think the book was suppose to shock......I think it was geared toward getting that type of play accepted without going overboard......

I mean we aren't spinning people on wheels here.......well not all of us.
Well, many, many, many women were shocked by it and they happen to be the women in the target audience, so I think it was meant to shock.

Also, the characters in the book did go overboard. Ana safeworded in a scene and Christian got angry with her and stopped speaking to her because of it.
50 shades is like entry level.......
I know that. But it's also total crap, through and through. I found nothing redeeming about those books. At all.

Now, The Taking of Sleeping Beauty did shock me a bit. I had to stop reading at a very specific scene and will not pick it up again. However, at least Anne Rice can write!

that she can, I need to pick that up and check it out.

People here kept talking about it, so I got it from Amazon. The scene that got me was basically a guy raping another guy -- very brutally.

That kind of thing isn't really a turn-on to me, so yeah, I couldn't go any further. lol But if you can handle that, you might enjoy it.

I read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy and it had some pretty brutal stuff in it too...the Dutch versions of the films were much more graphic than the American version of the first installment.

'one' of my professions is that I work in a prison ....so its nothing new to me......hard to really surprise me anymore.
Ah. My father worked on a prison for most of my life. I know some stories ... And he was a teacher, not a guard!

Aren't those about hunting a serial killer, though? I went into the Beauty book thinking it was just a bit of porn.

The first one has a serial killer in it, but the book is basically about Lisbeth's history and how she came to be how she is...and what she does to get even..if you have only seen the first one I recommend reading the whole series...very well written and you would never guess how it all ties together until the very end. I thought the same thing about the first book...How in the world did they get the title, because it didn't seem to be about her at all..but it lays the groundwork for the other two.

they dont like to be called guard lol

and I'm not a guard or correctional officer, I get more insight than any in the prison system. . haha
Hmmm. That must be new. I grew up in a prison town (we had two -- one maximum and one super max security) so almost everyone worked at the prison and I have a good friend who is a guard? correctional officer? in Massachusetts and they never seemed to mind being called guards. But I'll be more careful in the future.

I have neither read any of the books nor seen any of the movies. I picked thebooks up a few times and skimmed through, but they just didn't grab me. Maybe one day.

yeah I think things have changed......for some type of recognition of being more than just someone that stands guard.....I learned my first couple of days about the term lol .....that was several yrs ago.
I moved away from there about 14 years ago and never really thought about it.

Even if I call them guards, I know enough to realize they have a TOUGH job! Total respect.

Little trivia, but the prisons from my hometown get mentioned on Law & Order quite frequently. :-) And once there was a scene that was supposed to be outside of one of them, but it most definitely was not filmed on location!

And thanks to that crappy book, all my vanilla friends now think they live the fetish lifestyle because they NOW want their husbands to spank them and talk dirty. :noway:

According to all the 50 Shaders, that kind of behavior is not only romantic, but desirable, so go for it.

And that is the start to a whole other thread...Grrr...that book was dissapointing...
was it really intended to be a book to read? or act out?
If you acted it out in real life, someone would get arrested fro stalking and hostage-taking.

And the sex stuff? Eh. Dull. Made me never want to have sex again.

But the real crime was the terrible, awful, horrible, shameful writing.

I agree the sex stuff was dull....booorrrriiinngggg.... the chick reminded me of Bella from Twilight, weak and vulnerable and clumsy as hell.

That's because she was bella from Twilight. 50 Shades is Twilight fan fiction.
