So the guy can have his opinion. And A&E can choose to fire him. Free market. I couldn't say **** like that and not get fired by my clients. Bottom line, he's an employee, and when representing the company that hires him, he has to adhere to certain standards, like it or not. He is not valuable if he ends up costing A&E money in lost advertising revenue.

Freedom of speech... period. The media is saying he compared homosexuality to bestiality which is not what he said. He said he thought homosexuality was a SIN. Then they asked him what else he thought a sin was... that's when he said bestiality, polygamy, being unfaithful to your mate etc.... Despite what he said, it's a matter of opinion. I wonder if he would've been fired if he AGREED with homosexuality?? Probably not. It's a double standard in the media and that's wrong.

This. I heard that was what he did, so I went and looked up the actual quote. He didn't say they were comparable, it was in a group of stuff he listed that he thought were sins. And it's no surprise.

I fully support the LGBT community and don't even watch the show or care for him all that much, but this is being blown way out of proportion. And is anyone REALLY surprised that he finds homosexuality to be a sin?

There was big uproar when the Chick-Fil-A guy said homosexuality was a sin. Really, that's a surprise?! It's not like he is completely open about being very religious.

No one is surprised, but until he went officially on record, the assumptions didn't affect the show. Since their views were not being publicized, no one had to think about it. When he got interviewed, he made those opinions known, so now A&E has to take the potential advertiser and viewer response into account. They decided he had become a bigger liability than asset, and suspended him. This is not a first ammendment issue - it is pure economics.

I wonder how many of the people so upset by Phil Robertson being suspended knew who Nelson Mandela was or why he was important.

Probably most of them, if not all.

It is possible to know about both things.

Here's how I look at it. Phil is free to say what he wants. A&E is free to do what they want within the restrictions of the contract. I feel A&E will be begging for Phil to come back because of blow back from viewers. I doubt many DD viewers disagree with what he said. The fact is many people are making a judgement based on parts of the article, not the whole story. I happen to have a family member who is gay. Do I disagree with it, yes. Do I hold it against him or look down on him for it, no. As long as he is not forcing it on other people, he should be free to do what he wants. That doesn't mean I have to agree with that lifestyle.

I feel like the LGBT community has really turned on the Beastiality community in this whole thing.

    That seems oddly intolerant.

I sense a bit of stereotyping here. You are assuming people who agree with Phil are uneducated and don't care about things outside their world.

Okay, so I read the interview. Again, I don't agree with his opinion, but I 100% support his right to have it and express it. His statements were a personal opinion delivered in an answer to a question, none of which had anything to do with A&E, their time, their money, or their endorsement. I do appreciate the fact that he did clarify that he would not treat anyone any differently than he would expect to be treated. He and I may have different opinions, but with the success of the show, it's obvious these people are good people with good intentions.

I think it's ridiculous to hear about teachers being fired because they're swimsuit models on the weekend, as what they do in their personal time has absolutely nothing to do with what they do on company time. This is the same situation and is just as ridiculous.

A&E should distance themselves with a disclaimer or some form of a public statement. Even though they're within their rights as a private business to cut him from the show, I think it was a bad move, unless their contract with them specifically states they aren't allowed interviews outside of A&E's partners. If that were the case, though, I would think by now that this wouldn't be their first interview. Even if it were, was he interviewed as the Duck Dynasty TV personality or as the employee of a duck call company?

I would agree with this statement!!! Mandella was on the US terror watch list.

    Um ...

So that means no one knew who he was?

Mandella isn't exactly a non-controversial figure, himself. He had some very strong and questionable views and as a young man participated in some terrible things. I wonder if you and the poster you quoted know those things?

I'm talking about priorities, not education considering how many posts on my social media I see about Phil Robertson in comparison to how many posts I saw about Nelson Mandela (and some of those posts straight up said "I don't know who he was").

The passion is in the wrong place.
