    Hi Guys!

Well, I kind of dropped off the face of the earth for the Labor Day Challenge... (sorry all!) but would like to get back on the wagon! I'm up in my weight (161.5), and still need to lose at least a small child's worth! ; ) I am now back at school and juggling being a single parent, but it's actually made me simplify things a lot. So, please add me! I am hoping to drop 30 pounds, but know that plateaus happen so I'll be pleased if I can make it to the 140's! : )

Nice to see you guys again!

V/F Challenge: I DID IT!!!! Carrots, cantelope, mixed fruit, apple slices, lettuce & tomato on my taco. (Had to REALLY pile the lettuce & tomato on to make a serving, but I made it!)

Other news: My baby sister (she's 29, but ya' know:tongue: ) was bitten by a spider a couple days ago. It got a red ring around it, and had that "bulls eye" effect. She marked the circle (our mom was a nurse, and we learned a few things from her), and went to the doc the following morning. They remarked the circle, gave her antibiotics to take, and told her to come back this morning for a re-check. Well, when she woke up this morning, there was a red line going several inches up her arm, stemming from the bite! YIKES! When she went back to the doc, they gave her a second antibiotic (she's supposed to continue taking the first), and remarked the cirlce and the line. They also stated that they don't believe it is a brown recluse bite (a big concern in our area).

My sis is allergic to MOST antibiotics, and the two they have her on she's never tried before. I am allergic to one of them, and our mother was allergic to the other. So she is, understandably, concerned about having a reaction to the meds. They also gave her an anti-nausea pill because BOTH antibiotics they gave her have nausea and vomiting as one of the most reported side effects. Oh joy! They wanted to give her an injection of antibiotics, but she's allergic to all the ones they had available. Our mother died almost 9 years ago now, and sis was the baby. She and Mom were VERY close (after they quit trying to kill each other when she was a teen:wink: ). She's never been through an illness like this without Mom there to talk her through it, and she's NEVER been good at being sick. After Mom passed away, I kind of took over as her confidant and leaning post (she was only 20). I live about 2 hours away from her, and can't go be with her even this weekend because of work obligations. She is scared, hurting, missing Mom, and sick. And it is killing me that I can't do much about it. She lives with a great guy, and I know he's doing what he can, but it's just not the same, ya' know?

I know a spider bite is small potatoes compared to what a lot of people are dealing with right now, but it's a big deal to her, and thus, me. I would just like to ask any of you who are so inclined, to remember her in your prayers and pray for a speedy recovery. We both need it.

Sorry for the downer of a post, but I needed to get that off my chest, and FB just wasn't the place to do it!

Good morning everyone! A quick post before I become totally engulfed in social work. Today I completed the Burn Intervals dvd from the Chalean Extreme program.

I really hope everyone is doing well and I can't wait til I'm more active on the thread.

Dang I wish I would of learned of th fruits and veggie challenge earlier in the week b/c it would of surely motivated me to eat better. Well, there's always next time.

Lisa, I'm so sorry she is going through this. Spider bites CAN be quite serious, I hope that she recovers quickly. Sending my thoughts and prayers in her direction. Please keep us updated. Bru
  • LIsa- I feel bad for your sister and will definately say a prayer for her. I know its hard for you that you can't be there with her right now. But try and take some comfort in knowing that she isn't alone and has her boyfriend there with her. Im sure it helps her to know you are a phone call away.

Not too good of a day yesterday for me and the V/F Challenge. I actually went to the grocery store and stocked up on alot. Just didn't eat much of it. My count its 2! Alot of grapes and spinach from my garden in my homemade Italian Wedding soup. I got really bummed out when I got on the scale yesterday and seen it was up. It really affected my attitude for the whole day.

    Today I WILL do better.

    Have a great day everyone!
  • brunettewife - Prayers for your grandpa. Mine has Parkinson's and I know how stressful it can be when things like falls happen. Sending love and happiness

lisawest - wow how scary for you and your sister! I'm sure it'll work out. Again with my grandfather being sick, I'm on the east coast and he's on the west sometimes the guilt can be so overwhelming, not being able to be there with him. Keep your head up and know she's in good hands with her boy. You'll all get through it, prayers for you and her.

As for the fruit and veggie challenge - I forgot how wonderful peaches are! They were on sale and I loaded up (along with grapefruit and apples) and immensely enjoyed the one I had last night. Thanks to the challenge for reminding me about peaches!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!
  • Also going to throw this out there in case any of you have any idea what it was about...

So I get menstrual migraines (fun) every month on the first night of my period. I used to get wicked cramps too, but since I started birth control they have gone away. Anyway, I was prescribed sumatriptan for the migraines and I took one last night (as usual) as I felt the migraine approaching. It helped for about 20 minutes and then my head EXPLODED. It was the WORST pain I had ever felt, it was making me heave. It went on like that for about 30 minutes until my boyfriend made me take a vicodin he had for an injury and I passed out.

So I'm evaluating this morning and I can't think of anything that's made this month different then the last few in which I've taken the sumatriptan for the migraine and it's gone away. The only thing is that I've upped my strength training intensity this week. I've been good eating, gotten plenty of protein (I'm a vegetarian so I'm always careful with that) and have been eating my exercise calories. I know it's a long shot, but does anyone have any ideas? If it happens again next month then I'll talk to my doctor but my health insurance is iffy at the moment so I want to save it until I KNOW it's a huge problem.

Lisawest-Sorry about your sister, always hard to be worrying about someone so far away.

MTDork87-Have you considered taking continuous cycle bcp or only cycling about 3-4 times a year? Might help if you are always getting them in conjuction with the start of your period. Not sure why you would have had the reaction. Probably need to call your PCP or GYN.

V/F: Got 4 in today so not bad.

V/F: 4 in today. (If you count the tomato sauce on my pizza, I got all 5!)

Oh I know how bad pizza is, sodium galore, fat, etc. Since I do the frozen cheese pizzas, that's even more. But it was our "lounge around the house and do nothing" night tonight. We get one of those once every 2 or 3 weeks. On those nights, the rule is nothing that creates dirty dishes (because then we'd have to wash them!). This time, we chose pizza cause we can use paper towels. It did create a dirty pizza cutter, but that can wait until tomorrow to be washed! I didn't go over calories, and I am actually still under on sodium!:noway: Not too shabby for a pizza day!

  • Here we are into another weekend! Always my personal challenge!

Well the F/V Challenge has really turned out to be a hard one. Im finding its easier for me to eat Vegetables then fruit. Except grapes. I got the best batch of grapes this week and can't stop eating them. Im not hitting 5 a day. 4 seems to be the number for me. I'll keep trying though. Im going to miss my garden. I love walking out back and picking a bunch of fresh greens for lunch. Tomatos are just about done and hopefully I will get some sugar snap peas before the first frost.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. Stay strong! See you Monday for the weekly weigh in.
  • Being a vegetarian, I've always been good with fruits and veggies but with the stress of moving this past month I had totally slipped into almost no produce land! The F/V challenge has been amazing. I rekindled my love of grapefruit and the apples are in season and lovely and I made the most wonderful stir fry last night, yum! Thanks for coming up with the challenge, it's helping me a lot! I'm actually excited about weigh in on Monday, I'm so temped to weigh now and check because I feel so good but I'll be patient and wait.

Keep on rockin it! See you Monday!

yesterday i went 610 calories over my 1200 budget......I have to explain about the mcflurry, I know it's not a good excuse, but I had a 13 min break at job. Worked from 4:30 pm til 10:15 pm. NOT COMPLAINNG AT ALL...we were slammed...they had me in several places throughout the day...drive thru taking both orders and cash...then a few hours later switched me from drive thru to taking orders in the lobby....then after a lil bit switched me back over to drive thru...me personally i prefer drive thru over ANYTHING ELSE there....I'M LOVING IT....LOL...so after i got off work, one of my friends wanted a mcflurry....SOOOOO I decided you know that sounds like a great way to end my day...lol...so i got snack size Reese's flurry.

Then, when I get home my buddy had BBQ and I just COULD NOT say no to that...lol....I didn't even bother counting...didn't bother measuring or ANYTHING...LOL...anyways i can just count this day as ONE of my cheat days....lol...AFTER ALL my cheat days is the weekend...lol

    Hello all,

Hope you all have had a fabulous weekend!!

I was really hoping to say good-bye to the 220's this morning but I'll take the 2.6 weight loss and be darn happy about it! :)

Not doing so well on the veggie challenege. It has really opened my eyes about how much I DON'T eat. I am averaging about 2-3 a day but would really like to up that so will focus on that after a trip to the grocery store. My only problem is that we shop for a whole month and if I buy fresh it will inevitably go bad before the month is over. I'm buying frozen and really hate using canned because of all the sodium. So...I will find more frozen that is easy to cook and quick. With two teenagers that seem to be on the go 24/7 it is tough to fit in homemade dinners. I've had to make it a priority that we eat dinner at a decent time, much to their displeasure! Ah well...I shall focus on the veggies and fruit (smoothies are a great way to work those in!) and making sure I fit them in.

Do you guys realize that Christmas is only 13 weeks away???? YIKES!!

PS....Lisa, I'm sorry to hear about your sister going through the bite situation. I can so relate to what she is going through. I was biten by a brown recluse 10 years ago and by the time I got to the docs office it was the size of a softball. After numerous antibiotics, steroids and some sort of medication that they give people with leprosy, it finally cleared up. I still have a scar on my thigh where it bit me and strangely enough....the scar looks like a SPIDER! And even more strange...I was bit on Halloween night. Well...that was strange to my kids who were freaking out about how bad it looked. Tell her to hang in there...it is a scary situation and I had no idea the damage one of those things could do till the doctor scared me to death. Luckily they are better equipped to handle those things these days. I'll keep all of you in my prayers and hope that it clears up quickly with no side effects from the bite OR the meds!!

    Lori-

Fall is a time for squash. Pumpkin, spagetti, yellow, acorn, etc. They will keep for a long time. Pumpking pie made without the pie crust isn't so bad calorie wise. Zuchini will also keep for a while and is very good when stir fried with bean sprouts.

I'm bad with veggies all the time, so I feel your pain.

Jeannie, I didn't even think about that but you are right! I can honestly say, other than pumpkin pie, that I have never cooked with Pumpkin. I think I will make a post and see if folks can give us some good recipes for different squash. I'll post the thread here in case anyone misses it but I, for one, would love to incorporate more in my diet!

MTD....NICE JOB!! Very nice weight loss!
