Am I completely and totally ignorant?
My poor sister in law was fuming over a memo that included the word "gals" as in "guys and gals".
She was so upset because a coworker complained that the word "Gals" is a racial slur.
Is the word "gals" really a racial slur????

I never thought of gals as racial???
Me neither. I was totally baffled by that.0 -
I wouldn't take offense to it. Friends and people around me use that term quite a bit, so if it's offensive to some, I'm clueless!0

Am I detecting some sarcasm? She actually is quite delightful. One of smartest and coolest women I've ever met.0 -
hmmm.... I am pretty sure gals just means girls. I have no idea what else it means0

Totally not offensive to me.
And it wouldn't be racist, but I guess if you're really overly sensitive it would be sexist.0 -
She seriously needs to get laid!0

I can see an uber feminist getting upset at it being condescending or something (like calling grown women "girls," which doesn't bother me, but bothers some women). But it has no racial connotations at all.0 -
Next time make sure to say "Gents and germs" then.0

If it is I never got the memo.0

Hmmm, according to Urban Dictionary....
