foods that are not "worth" the calories?

Macaroni and cheese. It's just not worth it.0
-
Chipotle chips and salsa are 500+ calories a bag. That's as much a healthy bowl. Not worth it!0
-
Re: tortillas, I don't blame those of you who don't eat them if you feel it's not worth it...but I love the SMALL fajita size Mama Lupe's flour tortillas. They are somewhat high in sodium, but at 77 calories they make a very satisfying breakfast taco or small wrap for other stuff. Yum.0

Things that I don't like very much.
Pasta- It's fine but it doesn't taste like much...would rather have meat and sauce over some type of veggie or with sweet potato.
Hamburger Buns (the big kind)- All you taste is bread when it should be all about the meat. I usually use a lettuce wrap or if I am low on carbs I'll do a 100 cal thin bun. Just enough bread but not too much to outshine the burger.0 -
Cheez Its.... My favorite drunk food but at 160 cal/30g, just not worth it considering every shot of Crown is already 100 cals!0

I'm finding foods that I grew up eating aren't as amazing anymore.
I love ice cream, chocolate donnets, choco taco, etc, but the other day I had this raspberry Danish from Entenmann's. I grew up eating this for breakfast often as a kid. I ate it for the first time in years on Sunday. It was disappointing to say the least. They must've changed the recipe over the years because it crushed my memories. Maybe it was because it was a pre-packaged single serving as opposed to the traditional long Danish you would slice and serve. *sigh* oh well.0 -
Is there any food items you think isn't worth the calorie/fat count?
French fries, or potatoes in general.0 -
Lima Beans and Garlic. Wouldn't matter if they were 1 calorie per bucket, they ain't worth eating, nasty stuff!!!
Other than that, nothing.0 -
You guys are gonna hate me now but...bacon. Never understood the love for it. It's not gross but not worth the hype, either. And especially not worth the calories.
This x 100 -
High fructose corn syrup or sugary sweetened drinks. Been addicted to them for 52 years, not even in moderation are the calories worth the pleasure.0
-
French fries (in any size, shape or form), Onion rings...basically most deep fried.0
-
*cries* Alcohol. I'm not a huge fan of the "I won't eat all day so I can drink tonight" method. Given my current status I can say it'll be at least a year or more before I get to enjoy a nice cold beer to wash down a steak. (100 calories for a light beer.. it's girl's night out that kills me.. Normally one of our birthdays.. mixed drinks/shots all around.)0

Alcohol
No macro nutrients or micro nutrients yet tons of calories
(Depending on drink of choice)
but it makes me happy0 -
Sweets in general are it for me. They don't feel you up and they're loaded with calories. I have an addiction to Little Debbie snack cakes, but they're not worth it 400+ calories and they don't feel you up.0

The problem with Pasta is the fact you can't just have it on it's own. You have to have something with it, (in my case, an absulute tun of cheese), so by the time I'm done the calorie content is HUGE. However I am such a fussy eater that Pasta features largely in my diet, meaning I end up having to almost starve the rest of the day to make it worth my while Or eat the tiniest portion in the world....Pasta. It doesn't really have much of a taste (at least not compared to the other yummy stuff I could eat for those calories), so while I don't dislike it I always avoid it.
The same goes for most all fast foods, really - if I'm going to have something high-cal I prefer for it to be something sweet and decadent, like a pastry or something.0 -
I agree. The only foods I think are not worth it are what could be considered "empty calories", if they don't have any nutritional value. Like candy, which I love.0
-
And WINE of course. The calorie content in a glass of rose is ridiculous. Who would chose 2 glasses of vino over an entire meal?0
-
hmm probably eggs for me and bread When I'm cutting: Bread takes up all my carb allowance... When I'm bulking, bread doesn't give enough carbs :P0
-
Cheap chocolate(think Balmers or anything you would buy at the Dollar store)
Juice
Fruity drinks
Frozen Pizza0 -
Pasta. That being said, I've never been a huge pasta fan anyway, so that's why I find it not worth it. Majorly ups my carbs for the day and I don't even like it much.
Crackers also. Too hard to fit into my macros, because a serving size isn't "a sleeve of Ritz".
The only things I find aren't worth the calories are things I don't enjoy. Dry cupcakes. Stuff with fake sugar in it. I hate having a craving for something and it ends up being gross. Soul crushing.0 -
I love PB2 and I even put it in my cream of wheat instead of butter or sugar. :-)0
-
anything that doesn't taste good.0
-
1. Pizza - I just don't like it enough & it takes a lot to fill me up!
2. Sweet Pastries - Holy empty calories, Batman!
3. Chips - Reasonable portions are pathetic, just not worth it.
4. White Rice / Pasta - Brown rice & wheat pasta have FLAVOR!
5. Restaurant Burgers - Unless it's bison or turkey, I can make way better for fewer cals!0 -
One more....Butter. I mean proper butter. I find absulutely no problem at all with Flora Light which is about a quarter of the calories of full fat butter. If I do have real butter, I'll ummmm and ahhh about it, but when the calories come to more than whatever you've just put the butter on, you know your in trouble.0
-
Pasta -- I never use it any more. Bought a sprial slicer and learned to make faux pasta with zuchinni and celery root. Also started using Kelp Noodles for my Asian dishes and soups that call out pasta.
Pizza -- Make my own now using Cauliflower Pizza Crust.0 -
Carbie sweets. I have a sweet tooth but things like donuts, cake, pastries, etc are just not worth it to me. I've found I enjoy a good quality dark chocolate so much more and a smaller portion satisfies me instead of fueling my appetite the way carbie sweets do.
For me it's definitely cake and pastries. Other than that I would eat almost anything (within my daily calorie limit).0 -
Any fast food burger. I like a good burger, but not McD/BurgerKing etc. It just tastes like soft mush and Id rather make my own.
This! It was the first and really only thing I marked off as not worth it. I also have nearly stopped drinking soda completely. I will give in maybe once a month but its just not worth the calories and diet isn't what I want at all.0 -
Adding to my list...
6. Added Butter / Oil - I prefer to taste the actual food
7. Alcohol - Don't much care for it, would rather eat
8. American / Fake Cheese - Yuck!
Calorie-dense foods that ARE worth it (to me):
1. Chocolate
2. Coca-cola (in moderation)
3. Cashews
4. Ice cream (though I prefer fro-yo / sorbet)
5. Full-fat sharp cheddar & provalone0 -
oh the sadness of the food you leave enough cals to eat and then finish just to go wtf? thats IT?
Many a dessert in my home has been subject to this very statement.
I think my main issues is just restricting that portion, I want the freedom to binge on it, and nothing short of the "ive had enough " and push it away on MY TERMS will make it feel satisfying.
I seem to have figured out a snack is 100-200 cals, no matter what it consists of, 100-200 cals feels enough to tide me over
A meal can be 300-? whatever cals, but at long as I get around 300 I seem to be satisfied to call that a meal
Dessert- oh I like to save about 300 cals for that-its my fave part of the day and i want to badly to go all sugar craze on a bag of skittles, but those sugary candy stuff leaves me like triggered to crave MORE. So I have been trying to make or bake my own desserts and so far I guess it working.
Most nights id happily forfeit dinner and just eat those 500 cals in some dessert form lol
But i do think bacon, peanut butter and most calorie or fat dense foods are worth it, the donuts tho? Alcohol? pass.0 -
Large flour tortillas (I substitute small corn ones instead)
Bagels
Most cookies
Most cake
Cream pies
American cheese
I loved reading this thread!0
