Worst Thing You Found Out about on Facebook

So I get on Facebook this morning to look something up for a friend. I learned that my mom is having a heart cath done today. I have 2 sisters and one posted it to facebook. Not a single person told me.
A couple years ago, I learned my aunt had a massive stroke via Facebook.
I live an hour from my family and check in with them about every other day. So my question is this. What's the worst thing you found out about on Facebook?
Sounds like my mom's side of the family. I avoid all social network stuff that isn't a forum.0 -
Facebook! Seriously, why does anyone even need it? It's nothing but a site for attention and all it does is break up marriages and relationships. So many people are addicted! What a shame you all can't live without it. Do yourselves a favor and delete your profiles.
I use the pages of the associations and commissions I'm a member of nearly daily.0 -
The worst thing I found out on Facebook was that my cousin was pushing Shakeology.
Seriously, though, even with the drama, I love Facebook. It's amazing for military brats who spent their lives having to leave their best friends every 2-3 years. I've reconnected with old friends I never thought I'd hear from again. I love seeing the pics of their kids and seeing how their lives have turned out.
Sorry for the folks with the horror stories, though. :flowerforyou:0 -

A good friend from high school dying in a car crash. But that was fine for me to find out via FB as I wasn't in touch with him.0

Yep. I've been on Facebook for almost a full decade. Love it! The people that are having "all the drama" would be having that drama no matter where they are. *shrugs*0 -
That my SIL and BIL were getting a divorce. He'd been dealing with some pretty bad PTSD issues and I had seen that play out all over FB for a few months, but still, hearing about the divorce on FB was just so sad.
I also found out that I was a transphobic gay-hating bigot, which was news to me, considering I'm bi myself and support the local GLBT on campus. I just had to laugh at that one.0 -

I recently found out that my mom is in the hospital with blood clots in her heart over facebook. That was devastating.0

i got in touch with an old friend via facebook... then found out from her page that her brother (who I'd also been friends with) had died of cancer. Actually I think facebook was a good way to find this out, because it's going to save her difficult questions that might come from meeting someone you've not seen for years in real life, e.g. "how's your brother?" and it saves her having to explain it. I found out, yes it's sad, but in a way that didn't make her pain any worse.
I don't know why people are blaming facebook for drama. It's just something people can use for communication. If someone is lacking tact, sensitivity, social skills or behaves like an attention *kitten* on it or starts drama anywhere in real life (e.g. local pub, at the gym, social club, work, wherever) no-one blames the place for that, they blame the person. But for some reason when that kind of thing happens on facebook, people blame facebook. Before facebook, people had their embarrassingly public relationship break-ups in the street (loudly so the whole neighbourhood could hear) or in the pub or wherever. I guess facebook gives those people a more worldwide audience and the potential to go global. But even TV did that (shows like Jerry Springer) before facebook existed. *imagines two Homo erectus people having a similar kind of relationship public spat/break up while around a campfire with the rest of the tribe watching* *is sure Homo erectus didn't blame the campfire for this*0 -
found out my grandma passed via facebook - that was a solid one haha0

I'm so glad I'm not on FB!!!!

I found out my dog died on Facebook It was a family pet we had for over 15 years0
-
A guy I was seeing/semi dating had a girlfriend I didn't know about. That was awesome :ohwell:0
-
That all people care about is how big their diamond is and that their baby is cuter than all the others posted...
Not on Facebook anymore, not my scene... I left high school almost 15 years ago and even then I didn't fit in0 -

^^^ This! Navy Brat here! And I have reconnected with several really great friends through facebook. Yes...it can be drama...but usually that is the people that live nearer me for some reason...LOL0 -
I find out everything about my family on Facebook. They don't let us know jack.0
-
Nothing from family or friends thank God, no drama on my page. I "like" my local RSPCA feed though, and some of the stories of animal cruelty they share are horrible.
Oh, and that my old high school friend who got a job as a peggy (cleaner) earns more money than me0 -
That my then-husband had a girlfriend.
Same here.0 -
That's OK, OP. Nobody tells me anything, either. I don't find out about something happening until AFTER they've already left the hospital or sometimes months after someone's wedding, birth or funeral. I've complained before about being left out of the loop, but for some reason the answer is always that everyone assumed I already knew or surely someone must have told me...Whatever, people. I would say it's because I live far away from the rest of the family, but it was the same story when we all lived close together.
P.S. I've never found out about anything on Facebook because I've never been there. Maybe that's why I'm missing all the "good" news.0 -
I found out my uncle had been hit by a truck on Facebook. He survived, but that was nearly two years ago and he's just now relearning to walk.
I also found out my cousin had died in car accident while moving to Kentucky. Since I live in Kentucky I contacted my uncle and other cousin to see if I could be of any assistance (they live in Texas), and found out it was all a stupid scheme hatched by my two cousins... Something about wanting to break connections with bad influences... They let everyone on my mom's side of the family believe he was dead for DAYS, including his own son. Utterly ridiculous.
I also just found out today that another uncle who had been admitted to the hospital in a diabetic coma had had a stroke and two seizures last night.
Usually my family is pretty good about calling, though. Sometimes they slack, like recently, but there's been a lot of health issues going on, so I can forgive them.
The worst non-family thing I've learned from face book was that a former classmate and friend (I've lost touch with) was inspired by my healthy eating and weight loss so she started a juice cleanse. She got mad at me when I showed her evidence that it wouldn't work, so I dropped it. Drama is as drama does.
Most of my Facebook is my friends and family posting about their day to day, food porn, and George Takei. Not much drama there.
Edited for typo. Oops.0 -
I found out my eldest son impregnated that woman he married and that she lost the baby. Several months later, I found out he (we're going on the assumption it was him, at this point) did it again. She is due in July sometime. He still hasn't told me. *shrug*
Best part? This is the FIRST grandchild out of three sons. Not sure this was how I envisioned it...but then I also envisioned him marrying an actual HUMAN BEING.
Really? Re-read what you wrote. It's not very nice. I think you'll be a happier person if you let go of the bitterness and focus on the positive things in your life. :brokenheart:0 -
That i keep getting tagged in photos drunk pulling stupid faces. On the plus side FB does come in handy when trying to find out what i did the night before0
