I just want to point out that this post works *for me*. By going the extra mile and adding a positive, realistic suggestion it takes what could have come across as being *mean* or *bullying* and takes turns it into something helpful. For the record, I'm not opposed to telling people what they need to hear, I'm not opposed to honesty, and I don't believe in supporting fantastic, unrealistic, or plain ridiculous notions people have. But I think if we keep in mind that many people are coming here with years and lifetimes worth of misinformation, product and diet plan marketing, and bad science all mixed up together. Unlearning all of that and developing a deeper understanding of the whys behind a set of behaviors and attitudes that can really work isn't going to happen overnight. Furthermore, many people will respond negatively if they feel (rightly or wrongly) they are being picked on . If taking a moment to be a little more patient and understanding is such a burden I don't understand why bother responding at all. THAT was the point I was trying to make.

ETA: change word order for clarity

    You are so annoying

Lots of people have gotten uptight on this thread because they have misinterpreted the question

The OP does NOT want to be healthy, she does not want to be fit, she does not want a sustainable diet, she does not want to lose fat and retain muscle. These are all the things that you would want and the responses are reflecting that

She is willing to sacrifice all that so she can look slimmer in front of her 'girlies'. I guess in the hope that some say "Oooh have you lost weight, you look great"

Presumably she has joined just for this 5 week period and will go back to normal after the girly weekend

All the decent, sensible, long term fitness and diet help is not applicable, so don't waste your time

Very short term, non-sustainable, quick fix ideas only with the sole purpose of looking a little skinnier from now on please

5 weeks you could maybe lose 10-15lbs which you would put right back on plus shipping and handling no doubt. Good luck.

Yes, I have several friends who have lost weight on the Duncan diet. I don't think it's a long-term solution for me, and you'll have to find a good balance once you get back to reality, but I totally get the need to feel good for a special event.

In any case, the diet is primarily lean proteins and vegetables. If you follow the diet strictly, it guides you to adding back carbohydrates, celebration meals, etc. over time.

Google it and you'll see the web page.

    Good luck!

I don't know why everyone is so 100% sure that she will gain it back plus some.
I mean, that might be the norm, but it doesn't have to happen every single time does it?
Do we even knwo how much she wants to lose?
I still suggest the 17 day diet, its not really a diet it is a lifestyle change. I did it, lost 10 pounds in 6 weeks with healthy diet and excersice. I have kept up with lots of the suggestions from the diet. It also suggest to weigh yourself every weekend to make sure you dont start going up. Thats what i have been doing for the past 4 months.
I am sure glad I didn't come in here and post anything. I did my research and decision on my own. Otherwise I probably would have been scared off with all the negativity, and everyone so sure that I would gain it back.
If she goes back to her old eating habits, Yes she will gain it back. But she didn't say she was, or maybe she is and she doesnt care if she gains it back.
I am just saying, not everyone is looking to lose 50 + pounds. Some are just looking to lose a few, 10, like my case was. I lost it in 6 weeks, I have not gained it back, I am tracking what i eat and my weight to make sure I dont gain it back.
So I disagree with you will gain it back and then some.

That is closer to a reasonable goal loss amount though, not even 2 lbs weekly. Keep reading the posts for her details.
