Why do people seem to bash "healthy"eating?

Ok, recap for the late comers. MFP seems to be fractured into a couple of main groups - the healthy eaters and the eat whatever you want eaters. Within those two groups there are a variety of sub-groups. For the most part, there are preachers on both sides who like to bash. They resort to name calling, food shaming, sarcasm and generally aren't very nice simply because the clean eaters choose to lose weight and/or get fit in a manner which they deem as being extreme. Secretly, they hold the clean eaters in high regard so their inner conflict leads to outwardly belittling the clean eaters. The trigger for the eat whatever you want group is "clean". If that word is used in any way, shape or form, OR implied, OR used as flame bait, the eat whatever you want group is in for the kill. Some of the clean eaters are a tad fed up with the bashing EVEN though we personally have never preached clean eating, told others that was the way they had to eat or it was the only way to eat. That's what this thread is all about. Oh, and so far nothing much in the way of gifs but I'm sure they are just around the corner. Cheers!
Oh really?
Here's a response from a thread on this forum entitled "Taco Bell." The OP simply asks what people order when they go there. First page of the thread:Nothing. It's garbage.
From the Artificial Sweetener Demonizing post:Everyone should be against artificial sweeteners because they are part of the reason we are experiencing an obesity epidemic, whether they are low in calories or not, everything from high fructose corn syrup to aspartame has been linked to obesity. And if they are consuming sweets despite knowing that they are unhealthy, they likely are making other poor nutrition decisions as well.
Those are just two examples of people preaching clean eating or the avoidance of certain foods. There are examples of these types of posts all over MFP. Please cut the sanctimony and have a look around, because it's not just clean eaters being bashed and people bashing them because they hold them in high regard. There are plenty of clean eating warriors running around here telling people that the choices they make in regards to food are not good ones or that a person is eating crap, junk, garbage, or is making themselves fat and/or sick.
^^^This x 1000...
Not to mention that we still have no definitive definition of what it means to eat "clean"...
This.
Even the freaking water we drink has poison in it. NONE of us are safe so shut up with your stupid healthy crappy advice.0 -
That looks like Jello. No thanks.
It's incredible stuff as beets are one of the super foods I love to eat. The above was Ina Garten's recipe for cold borscht.
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/summer-borscht-recipe.html
Hot Borscht is good as well.
And since we are discussing healthy eating that gets bashed, I thought I'd pony up one of the world's healthiest foods - beets. ;-)

What? I was refuting the above claim that the "eat whatever you want" eaters are the only ones making attacks and that the clean eaters never make any comments or preach to people about food choices by providing actual examples of it happening in posts from the last 24 hours. I don't think you understand what "ironic" means.0 -

I wouldn't call anyone's avitar unimpressive, but I do try to replicate the habits of those whose bodies are most similar to my goal. Most of the time, that's heavy lifting and eating a certain macro percentage. From the diaries of those folks, I've seen that they eat relatively "healthy" or whole foods, whatever you want to call it, but they're not cutting out doritos or cookies.
ETA: I have seen fit folks that claim to only "eat clean," but those are far and few between.0 -

Ah yes- this- one of the largest ironies... people who have aren't "clean" eaters- but still look fab... they typically DO eat clean- they just don't prattle on about how "clean" their food is.
They eat as well - if not BETTER than clean eaters- but they make room for all their beer, oreos and wings as well.0 -

Wrong, there have been several links pointing to what eating clean means. They tend to appear on many of the treads where the clean eating debates start.0 -

I bolded the portion. Seeing as how you are late to the thread, you missed the background. The OP of this thread created it moments after posting this in a thread asking about eating potato salad 4 times per week:Other will probably not agree, but I say no, it isn't healthy. Of course, I'm assuming you make your potato salad with white potatoes and mayonnaise. I think you'd be getting too much saturated fats with the mayonnaise and not enough nutrients (for four times a week) with the white potatoes. I think you would be doing yourself a disservice. Might not be what you would like to hear, but you asked……
Others did not agree with her, nor did they bash her, but it kicked off this thread. So the claim that clean eaters are tired of being attacked when they never preach to anyone, which the poster said this thread is all about, is misguided at best.
Also, since you know nothing about me, I would appreciate it if you would not try to pigeonhole me as being a part of a certain group simply because you disagree with something I wrote. I'm done now, I have no interest in continuing to engage in a discussion with someone who just wants to argue for the sake of arguing.0 -
