I was thinking the same as your daughter. I am also afraid of heights, so the idea of going down a steep hill at 33 mph on a bike terrifies me. Very impressive!5 -
the other day I was using the triceps machine at the gym and noticed my thighs no longer touch the handles (they used to rub. now there is plenty of room!

I will be 49 next month. Over the last few years I have noticed some pretty ugly reddish "spider" veins on my calf just above one of my ankles. From the distance it kind of looked like I always had a bruise on my leg. I just attributed it to getting older. Last night I noticed that I couldn't see the veins. I looked closer and then I realized that I was looking at the wrong ankle. So I looked on my other leg and still couldn't find them. Now I'm not really sure which leg they were even on. I guess obesity had more to do with my spider veins than age.31

Being able to wear a size 2/4 while weighing almost 130 (i'm 5'2 ) so this is a NSV for me23

My son grew up on the back of two-wheels so his question would be more along the lines of 'how many 4-wheels did you pass'!

You assume correctly. Not motorbike people. My dad effectively banned any of his children having motorbikes after his brother was killed on one. My dad had a motorbike that he sold the day his brother died (this was all long before I was born, so I never knew my uncle). I did once go behind my dad's back and rode pillion (loved it but I'd promised my dad that I'd never get a bike)

Aw, bless you. 33mph is a bit slow compared to the speeds I reached last summer - I think that the highest I went was 45mph. I've not been up that hill for a while because I don't have enough time to get there with the shorter daylight time in winter. Once the clocks go forward and my cycling speeds have improved again (they seem to deteriorate over the winter) I will venture out there again. It's a long slow climb for a short, fast downhill ride. Totally worth it thoughI guess obesity had more to do with my spider veins than age.
I'm going to go and look at mine now!
NSV: No bike ride today as we took the children to a theme park. I did, however, walk for 6 hours. And I can fit on every single ride, even the ones aimed at very young (and small) children. No walk of shame today. I didn't eat any theme park food either.19 -
got out of bed and walked around the house last night because I realized I was 500 steps short of my goal39

I am finding that I plan and schedule my days around trips to the fitness center and my workouts, instead of what fast food or restaurant I want for lunch! I would often "unintentionally" time my errands to coincide with lunch at the mall cafeteria and picking what to eat was the highlight of the day. But I've noticed over the past few weeks I am intentionally planning around fitness classes and what workouts I have planned for that day! The cafeteria doesn't call to me like it used to, and I often return home from my errands to a light, healthy lunch at home! I've been resisting the siren call!!21

Covered 12.5 miles of trail yesterday- including a two mile run downhill. Granted the run was because of a sticky situation getting lost but I am still glowingly happy with what my body stepped up to do.

Finished my bootcamp's "Fit" competition with my final weigh in yesterday. Dropped 1.5 in body fat!
AND, today, TWO DIFFERENT people commented on my weight loss. I might not see it in the mirror but apparently they do!

Two weeks ago I jogged for two minutes and felt like I was dying. Today I did five intervals of two minutes and I'm still alive!40

I bought my first house over the summer and have had every intention of putting vegetable gardens everywhere they will fit and get sun. We had a huge veggie garden at our last house and really miss it. I got as far as planting my fall garden on a bare dirt area next to the driveway, but hadn't made any more progress since the rest of our yard is rockscaped and moving rocks is hard work.
With our first 60 degree days and the bulbs popping up I finally got my motivation to clear an 80 sq ft area in the backyard. I thought I had to move a bunch of rocks and pull up the landscape fabric. PITA, take me all weekend, but after that I can start planting!
Wrong, on two things:
#1 There was a few inches of dirt under the rocks that had to be dug up and sifted before I could even take up the fabric.
#2 I got it all done in a few hours and I'm not even tired. Not the weekend project it would have been six months ago.
Now I'll likely be spending a small part of my weekend digging in some manure and I'll be ready to start planting on time.28 -
I can grab my wrist all the way around where my fingers touch. A silly little thing to notice...but I can do it on both wrists now!27

Yes! I noticed this a few pounds ago. Maybe it is silly, but even the smallest NSV can keep me going.9 -
Finished C25K! And I actually enjoyed it. Now need to figure out whether to go on to C210K or not. Not really for the distance, but to improve my short-term speed. And I'm thinking about registering for my first 5k. Never would have thought these would have been decisions I would ever consider.20

Got some stitches in my upper arm and can't lift anything with it for two weeks (aaaarghhhh!!!). The NSV is that my dr looked at me, checked out my upper arm, and asked, "Do you think you can not do any upper body weight lifting for two whole weeks?" She had no idea that I lift...she just assumed by looking at me. I look like I lift! Me!!32

I way overate for dinner.
After I had very recently decided to lower my calories. And I was getting really down on myself for ruining, just RUINING , my new commitment to eat fewer calories.
Then I realized... I'm still in a deficit. I'm still losing weight. And I'm UNDER my calorie goal for the week.
It's not that bad, y'all.
I also didn't go full out and binge. It was like a minor binge.30 -
I resisted cake!
I was at a celebration this evening and there were plates of cake on the table in front of me. I eyed up the cake and thought how tasty it looked. I asked my hubby if he wanted a piece (thinking I could just steal a forkful from him in that case!) - he said no. I tried to ignore the cake for a while, but kept thinking about it. I knew if I went over my calories I wouldn't be bothered about it, and I also knew that if I had a taste of the cake I'd finish the whole piece - and they were not small portions. But I kept thinking about it, and putting off the decision to eat it for "a few more minutes". Eventually, it was time to leave and I still hadn't touched the cake.
When I mentioned it on the way home, hubby said that initially he'd said no because he didn't think there was enough to go round, but he'd noticed as we were leaving that there was plenty of cake still in the box "so I could have had a piece". I admitted I'd kinda hoped he would so I could try it, and he was all puffed up with pride that he'd helped me resist it. My hero...
Old Sue would easily have scarfed down a piece, and then probably had seconds if there was obviously enough. New Sue feels only a slight disappointment at not having a taste of it, but is reassuring herself that it was probably not as good as it looked anyway!
Second NSV, at the same celebration - I had to be introduced to a friend I haven't seen in over a year, because she didn't know me. The phrases "Where did you GO?!" and "I didn't even *kitten* recognise you!!" were used liberally.24 -
I finished reading this thread!
I fell off calorie counting when my father passed away this fall. Just not enough mental capacity to deal with MFP on top of everything else. And this February I recommitted and have been reading this thread for motivation. I've been pretty consistent in my working out and tracking.
I've lost the weight I had gained over the winter. And last night while on vacation after coming back to the hotel after a show I went to the fitness center and worked out! It felt really good to intentionally lift weights and not jus say that we had walked around a bunch that day.29 -
Had a bulging disk in my lower back L4-S1 that I had to get adjusted by the chiropractor, since i work so many hours it took me several days to make it over there. The location of the pain was at this weird place where it hurt to sit, really hurt to go from sitting to standing, but almost no pain at all walking or jogging. So my NSV is that I did so much walking to keep out of pain that my friend that also has a Fitbit looked at my steps for the week and asked if I had done a marathon or something.
My back is improving but still sore so I'm going for another adjustment later this week to keep up with it.
NSV #2: My blood pressure had never really been super bad, but now it is typically between 100/60- 120/78.17 -

Good job!!!! I timed my C25k last fall so that the end of it coincided with a 5K run. My first one ever. Do it. It's a fun experience I haven't run over the winter (not dedicated enough to run in snow) and have been doing lots of other things instead. I totally plan on running again in the spring but here's my dilemma....should I re-do the C25K to better my time? Or do I try C210K instead? Thoughts anyone?
And yes, it's a total NSV that I'm thinking about this stuff now because we've had snow everyday this month and spring seems very far away12 -
1.Using the dryer while doing laundry to purposely shrink my clothes.
2. Exchanging new work out clothes before I wore them to the next smaller size because the size I'm used to buying doesn't fit anymore.
3. Looking in the mirror and seeing my true self beginning to shine through.
4. Craving to go to the gym or take a walk and missing it on days that I can't fit it into my schedule.
5. The realization that my progress is a direct indication of how consistent I am in putting my commitment to become healthy again into action.
6. Understanding that my weight loss journey is solely mine and will vary from the experience of others. Comparing it to the experiences of others is not an accurate guage of my efforts, commitment, or success.35 -
Ran 3.2 miles yesterday and was much faster and less out of breath than my friend that came with me. I'm so uses to always being the slowest it was a great feeling! And now she wants to go with me more often24

Do it! That's what I did. I can't believe how much I love it. I still need to sign up for a 5K but there haven't been any in my area lately.5 -

Cycle rides so far this month = 8. Total mileage this month = 128.
Really enjoyed today's cycle ride (22+ miles) despite the headwinds. It was warm, sunny and dry, what more is needed? Tackled those hills three times, just for fun. I can't believe that I just wrote that. I mean, who cycles up the same two really steep hills - we are talking bottom gear struggling to push the pedals down type steep - three times on the same cycle ride "just for fun"?
I think that my daughter may just be right when she describes me as a "nutter" (OK, disrespectful but I'll deal with that issue later). The comment came after I told her that I'd hit 36.9mph today but had to slow down (read: really-yank-on-brakes-with-mild-panic-as-left-braking-a-little-late-whilst-trying-to-see-how-fast-I-could-go) as I was approaching a T-junction. Cue much eye-rolling from ever-so-mature-teenager.
Felt wonderful. I could hear birds singing and animals rustling in the hedgerows (also traffic but I ignored that). I could see amazing colours emerging on the banks and trees (and litter but I ignored that). I could smell freshly-cut grass (and pollution and "farm" smells but I ignored those). I could almost taste the fresh air (and fumes from a bonfire but I ignored that). I could feel my extremely hot back and the cooling breeze over my arms (plus the pain of bring smacked in the face by random insects at high speeds but I ignored those, once I'd got them out of my eyes).

I moved up to a 15 lb kettlebell and have done a few workouts and I love it. Today's NSV is that I finished a new 30 min workout and didn't feel like I'd had enough so I found another one and kept going. I never thought I'd like exercise but I guess it was just cardio that I dreaded. I'm contemplating a gym membership so I can do stronglifts or something similar.19

I bought all the fixings to have a banana split for dessert tonight. I finished dinner and decided i was full so thought I'd give it late. All evening I've been asking myself if i want it and i kept answering not really. This means i still have all the fixings ready for when i really do want it. This is pretty major for me as i had a stall in weight loss this week which has been enough in the past to go on a bit of a food rampage!
