We went hiking in North Carolina this week and did about 20 miles. Not only did I cover the mileage with no problem without having hiked in almost a year, but I was the leader/navigator of our group. My calves were only sore for a couple days, and unlike last year it it did not prevent me from doing any trails.

A colleague commented on my stride. I'm walking differently, quicker, straighter, longer strides. Very different from a year ago.
Maybe it's silly that her commenting meant anything. I'm less than 10lb to my goal and realizing I'm really not anywhere near done. My body comp clearly needs more fat loss and I was feeling, not defeated but annoyed and frustrated. But her commenting reminded me that even if my body is still a ways off looking how I want, it's doing so much more for me than it has in a long time.22 -
Lately, my tunic t-shirts hang free from my belly fresh from the dryer!19

I have finished C25K today and I feel so happy! I DID it! It's the first time in my life that I'm running and, to be honest, when I started I strongly doubted that I could finish it at all.
I don't have anyone IRL to share this victory with, so please bear with me while I do a happy dance. And thanks everyone for sharing your victories, you're all an inspiration!
I intend to keep on running three times a week, and hopefully I can continue to build up my endurance and improve my health.41 -
I finished planning my menu for the day (I pre-log, then update as the day goes on) and realised 1) how much I'm looking forward to eating it, 2) that most of it has been home-cooked in advance by me, rather than store bought or a takeaway and 3) there's loads of fruit and veg there. I'm starting to see a positive lifestyle change creep up on me, rather than "a diet". A new lifestyle!
I'm starting to feel like I'm changing my life permanently for the better, as opposed to rushing to lose the pounds and then to regain them. I feel very, very content.
@GummiMundi That is brilliant, well done you. I used to run myself, so I totally get how much of an achievement completing C25K is. Keep doing the happy dance, you are right to be so proud of yourself!
@HeidiCooksSupper @Terytha @IronwomanOne Some great clothing victories there! It doesn't matter what size you are, you just always look that bit better when your clothes fit and hang properly.
@asthesoapturns That's brilliant. Sounds like your body is lighter and you're moving with more confidence, even if you didn't notice. I'm smiling for you, because I can picture what a difference that must have been, and totally get how you wouldn't have seen the change until it was pointed out to you. Congratulations.15 -

Three weeks ago I bought new clothes - shorts, jeans, and slacks - with a new 6" smaller waistline. First time in over 10 years I've been in 40's. Working towards the size I was in 20 years ago - 30's.18

I was able to do 7 unassisted chin ups in a row yesterday! (compared to 4-5 a couple weeks ago)19

Two things.
- A friend dropped off a hiking map yesterday, and I gave him some goodies from the garden. He said I'm the trimmest he's ever seen me. I'm no trimmer than I've been in the past, and he thought it might be because I was in shorts and a t-shirt instead of work clothes.
- This actually comes from the scale, but it's not about my mass. I don't think the BIA feature gives me really accurate information on body fat %, but I think it's logical that I can look at trends, but my body fat appears to be dropping rapidly the last five weeks. It hasn't been this low in 15 months. Aside from a few weeks in April 2019, it's never been this low. I haven't been SCUBA diving since February, but I've been running a little bit and hiking some. I guess it's working.
Then there's a total non-scale victory and nothing that has to do with fitness in any way except my ability to crawl under my kitchen sink. My faucet was failing, and yesterday I was getting warm water out of the cold tap. I have replaced faucets before, but I'm always scared I'm going to break something and have to call a plumber. On a Saturday, that would be a big hit on the wallet. I got everything buttoned up pretty easily, and I like the new faucet better than the old one. I disassembled the old one to see if I could have repaired it, but there weren't any replaceable parts. I'm disappointed this faucet only lasted eight years; I hope the new one goes much longer.18 -

Regarding the bolded part, I think reaching that point of positive change is one of the most rewarding things we can accomplish. When the new way of eating is not seen as a chore or an obligation, but rather as something we want to do and feel great doing, that's a huge victory. Best wishes for you!7 -

Thank you! I can best describe it, now that I'm paying some attention, as walking like I have every right to be there. So back straight, and chin up. It's definitely different and I have no idea when it started XD.7 -
I have been struggling to walk 4 miles on a local hill (still recovering from a variety of medical things so this itself is remarkable). While having car serviced yesterday, had to wait 3 hours, walked 7 miles on the flat !21

A rare trifecta...
1) I went for a walk and didn't get weird about not having my phone or smartwatch on me to track steps. I just walked to walk.
2) Same walk (which happened to be on the way to the local ice cream shop but was, ahem, ostensibly to watch the sunset) : had a salted caramel brownie but only ate a quarter of it. The rest is wrapped in the fridge for another day.
3) Outfit: I wore a crop top 'n leggings 😱 Although the jury's still out on whether being a "Basic B*tch" is actually a victory of any kind.29 -

As for my NSV this time, my hands are getting their shape back. My fingers are always chubby looking even when I'm in my healthy weight range, but it seems like I lost the fat on the back of my hands. Ever since I first noticed a few hours ago I can't stop staring at them 😂
I feel like the weightloss is noticable from the toes/fingers when you lose a little and then all the way to the stomach when you lose a lot. My "big" bra doesn't fit properly anymore. I'm sure it will when TOM happens but I usually go up 2 cup sizes then 😵 I'm also starting to see more definition in my lower legs.
I know it's probably because it's the start of my journey but I notice little changes almost every other day. It's very motivating
Sooo still here! Also remember when 30 seconds of non stop jumping jacks where amazing?
Well, today I did 30 sec knee highs and 30 seconds of "butt kicks" and this time I didn't do the slow, easier version. I was full on jumping from one foot to another! I still have a lot of issues with my calf and I definitely won't be running/skipping or jumping rope any time soon, this is such a victory! I'm very excited about it and didn't even realize it happened until I suddenly found myself not doing the modified versions of everything during my workout and I am so proud of myself!13 -

Wahoo! I borrowed my SIL's mountain bike while they are on vacation and today was the first day I've ridden a bike in about 16 years. I tried it out around my neighborhood and was perfectly fine (they say you never forget how to ride a bike!) so I put it in my car and took it to my beloved Middlesex Greenway. I rode the entire Greenway, 7 miles in total with zero problems and barely breaking a sweat AND (here's the NSV) I rode up the Route 1 Bridge (both ways) without needing to get off my bike and walk--WAHOO!! I've enclosed a picture of the bridge--I conquered this bridge many months ago and have absolutely no trouble walking it (actually, now I walk up and over it several times in a row because it's so easy for me) but I was SURE that I was going to lose my steam biking up it but nope! I made it up both times with no problems. Girl power!
FYI this is just some random picture from off the internet, I have no idea who those people are.

I swam 100 yards! Now, that might not seem like much to some, but it has been one of my Cardiac Rehab goals for the last year, which was then up-ended when none of the local pools opened this spring and prevented me from getting any kind of practice. But, to qualify to go canoeing with my son's Scout Troop next month, I had to pass the swim test...cold turkey. And I did it! And I wasn't the ..ahem... "weakest" swimming parent in the group, either.32

I returned a large bagful of clothing purchased pre-pandemic that I never had a chance to wear and is now too large. Cha-ching! Of course, now I'm spending it on smaller clothes. 🤷♀️20

This has a few parts to it. Today when I was preparing lunch I had been planning to put some gyro style hamburger meat, already cooked and drained, with scrambled eggs and have it with homemade pita. As I was preparing the stuff I thought about what I'd had for breakfast, and about my totals for the day. Then I weighed the hamburger, decided it was enough protein on its own, and instead of eggs and pita, I stir fried it in a nonstick pan with cut up red cabbage and a large, sliced mushroom. The meal was within my totals and still filled me up.
It's an NSV for me because not only has weighing my food become natural to do, but logging and being aware of how many calories my foods contain has become a significant decision making factor. Instead of just cooking what sounds good to me tastewise, I now cook what sounds good to me but ALSO fits within my goals. I still enjoyed lunch but didn't have to do a bunch of make-up exercise or stint myself on dinner.
Old me would have said "hey, hamburger and eggs are protein so it's healthy, right? And this pita is homemade, right? So I'll have two." Also, four ounces of burger wouldn't have been nearly enough.

This is a little similar to @Sand_TIger's.
Today was our Employee Appreciation Picnic. It was a different way of doing it since we can't sit down together. It was a "drive through" to pick up a meal. There were choices of Caesar salad, a sandwich, or a Yumm! bowl. I've never had an actual real Yumm! bowl; my ex used to make something similar. So that's what I got. I didn't drive through - I biked. I took a scenic ride back and sat down in my back yard and enjoyed it. So that's part one.
The NSV was this: I looked up the nutrition information for Yumm! bowls. There are several in the database with wildly different calories. I assumed the size I had was, "Normal." Thinking about what I had eaten, I thought, "Well, that sauce must be richer than I imagine if it has 763 calories in that little bowl." The calories for a small size bowl looked more like what my eye told me. I e-mailed Cafe Yumm! to ask what size bowl comes in a 12-oz to-go container. I got a reply within two hours that said it was a small bowl. Guess what? My eyes were right! I saved 230 calories. Enough for a beer. or at least the potato chips that came along with it (another 160 calories). I'm fine that I declined taking a cookie.
It made me feel good that I have a clue what caloric values look like. Regularly using the food scale helps keep the eyeball calibrated.

I have another NSV that's fitness related. I had a great run today that set or broke all my personal records. First (and therefore fastest) 10K, fastest 5K, fastest 1 mile, and fastest 1K. And farthest. I almost made my goal of 5K in under 30 minutes, but I have to shave a little off still.18
