Motivation only gets you as far as the start. Dedication is what takes you to your goal.

"Just keep logging, just keep logging". Props to Dory, from "Finding Nemo"

With all the data in front of me from logging properly, anything is possible. I love that the commitment is so simple. Just log whatever you do eat, with or without any attempt to correct it for a few months. Then take a step back and review. No beating yourself up, just a factual analysis of the data. It often becomes clear what little or simple changes I can make to get me closer to my goal. And if I don't know or can't figure it out, I'll search forums or ask (on forums or friend list). Tada! Weight lost :)

We all have a personal motto or whatever to keep us going. What helps you?

Mine is "weight loss is a long distance marathon not a 100m sprint."

For me it means slowly does it, one small change at a time. Something I can do for the rest of my life no just today.

a long distance marathon? as opposed to a short distance marathon?

Don't eat anything bigger than your head.
  • "The less I weigh the better I play." For me that means racquetball but you can substitute anything you want, I guess.

    and

This (tracking of food, exercise, weight loss) is a marathon and not a sprint.

  • In because I love everything that has been posted!

Mine is more of a working out motto: "Push yourself. Dig deep." I used to love WWE (back when it was WWF!). I had a Chyna workout video and she said it and it stuck with me for whatever reason.

I created a pin on Pinterest, for motivation fitness quotes, that I refer to when I'm lacking motivation. A couple of my favorites:

    "Stop Wishing, Start Doing!"
"A year from now, you will wish you had started today"
"3 Months from now, you will thank yourself"
    "Turn intentions into actions"

A few months ago, I missed my third workout in a row due to something external, early appointment one day, BAD rain the next (seriously, water was up to my ankled and my shoes and socks got wet "can't work out like this" I said), and so on. I decided to keep a journal detailing why I was unable to work out on some days to help hold myself accountable on the days where I could.

On my first entry, after typing up two paragraphs of why I couldn't work out today, I got really angry with myself and typed, F'ING DO IT ANYWAY! I did. Since then, when excuses pop up, that pops in my head. Great thing is, it works for any excuse I can think of.

i don't think it's as much a motto as it is a way of thinking. MFP is a tool. It doesn't work unless you pick it up and use it.

    I love this thread!

"Have faith in the process" is the thing I find myself thinking when I get discouraged. It reminds me to keep doing the things that I know will make me successful in the long run, even if the hard-work I've already put in hasn't shown up on the scale yet.

I dont really have an official motto yet. But I'm really liking the " slow and steady wins the race" idea.
