She asked you out. She pays.

    The end.

^like are you being sincere? Is this the real rule of thumb?

    That's how I see it.
Unless someone specifically says "we're going Dutch" the person who asks, pays. If someone were to ask ME out and expect me to pay it would be the last time I ever went anyplace with them.
If you WANT to pay that's fine, but she wouldn't expect it IMHO

I am so glad I've been out of the dating game for so long. If I were single, I wouldn't be asking a guy out because I am too shy. I also wouldn't pay if he asked me out and we were only casually dating. However, if we were in a long-term relationship, I would have no problem going dutch or paying half of the time. Of course, my husband came home with me three weeks after we started dating and we've been together for 24 years since then, so we started splitting the bills early on in our relationship.

Is this an age thing (I'm 47) or is that how dating is done nowadays, splitting the bill or paying half the time?

I don't think it's because of your age. It may be "old-fashioned" but I don't really ask guys out either. And if we go out and he expects me to pay, at least in the beginning, I take that as a sign he "just wants to be friends." LOL Of course, if we have been dating a while, I pick up the tab half the time.

This may be the best thread ever.

All future threads will not be worth reading.

I am near your age so my opinion is if I asked a guy out, (which good southern girls don't do), but if I did I would expect to pay. Good luck.

I plan I pay. You plan you pay.

This way everyone is paying for something they planned themselves, and aren't blindsided by a $600 dinner.

I actually had two girls ask me out yesterday - I said yes to this lady because she is frankly remarkable, and she called.

the other girl just sends me a txt

    "hey :)" - Ms. K

"Yo gorgeous what's going on" - Mr. Tolerable

"So random question...what are you doing next Tuesday" - Ms. K

... - Mr. Tolerable never answered :smokin:

I am a girl, and I always offer to split. I think that would make for an awkward conversation....
