TGIF Thanks all you can eat appetizers.

I fully support you NOT supporting TGIF so when I go there you are not in the line ahead of me and I can sit faster and eat what I choose to eat. Which will most likely NOT be all you can eat appetizers, because I have some (albeit limited) self control and personal responsibility for what goes into my mouth. :drinker:0

Well, now I know where I'm going if I'm ever without cooking facilities and down to my last ten bucks.
I wonder how many hours you can sit there and stuff your face before the manager throws you out?
Probably as long as a Buffet?
Does it matter if you're not interested?
True, a buffet is about the same deal. Since losing weight I've pretty much wiped the concept of those from my memory.
Meh, I love my 3 trips a year to the awesome casino buffets and the OCB for breakfast after our hockey trip.
I'm on day two in las Vegas. making those buffets ma bishes.0 -
From their website:
"Buy one appetizer at $10 each (per person) and get free refills on same appetizer. Valid on select items only. At participating restaurants for a limited time. Dine-in only. One offer per person, per visit. Not valid in conjunction with any other coupon, promotion or discount. While supplies last. Tax and gratuity not included. © 2014 TGI Friday’s Inc. Please drink responsibly."
Looks like they are offering the following choices:
Loaded Potato Skins
Pan-Seared Pot Stickers
Mozzarella Sticks
Garlic & Basil Bruschetta
Tuscan Spinach Dip
Boneless Buffalo Wings
Crispy Green Bean Fries
But, you only get one - so unlimited potato skins for $10 etc etc etc....
Sounds like an excellent way for them to pad their profits
Choice is yours if you want to go for something like this.
SO...you can only select one appetizer to get unlimited plates of. Sneaky.
But if 6 people were to go, each ordering a different one... I'VE FOILED YOUR BRILLIANT PLAN, LOCAL CHAIN EATERY!
And I know I said 6 when there are 7 options. But when I'm going all you can eat "crispy green bean fries" aren't on my radar. Now pass me 17 more cheese sticks, please and thank you.
...So you spend $60 to foil their plan? That's exactly their plan!
Pass the cheese sticks!0 -

Sounds like a really happy me loading up on one of my favorite foods - buffalo wings. But we don't have TGIF anywhere near a reasonable distance from my tiny town.0 -
So, I assume the brainwashing classes will begin soon. I'll miss having free will, and the ability to plan my meals.
All hail my greasy overlords, I'll learn to love you.0 -

So naturally you’ll have people treating this as a $10 dinner, polishing off 5 plates of loaded potato skins, which is putting away 7,150 calories, 390g fat (135g saturated), and a mind-boggling 10,550gs sodium. But it’s nothing that running a triathlon and an ultra-marathon afterwards can’t largely mitigate…0

How gross… TGIF is offering all you appetizers for $10. Another "stuff your face America" let's get fatter move.
I'm only supporting restaurants taking the healthful high road.
Lol. Let me get this straight ... offering a product or service that people want to buy at a price they are willing to pay is the low road? Are you French or did you just never take an economics class?0 -

I would love to see my blood sugar after doing something like this. It tastes delicious going in, but it is not so delicious when I am up at 3AM treating a 400 blood sugar.
Personally, I wouldn't do something like this, but my family is excited for trying this out the next time we go. They have the chicken and spinach, it fits within my desirable macros, I'm happy, and I have room for a potato skin or dessert. They have this, and my family is happy. All is good! :drinker:0 -
I love TGIF and don't see anything gross about the special promotion. The idea of blaming external factors and other people because I elected to stuff my face and became overweight has never crossed my mind. As soon as I fit those appetizer calories into my deficiency, I will fit those calories into my mouth.0

Throw in a beer special and I'm in! :drinker:0

Unless these are included, no dice.
One of my favorites. Nice!
Last time I was there & someone ordered 1 of these at our table, they looked like "chunks" of cut up pieces Not how pretty these look...I took on this look :noway: I guess they make them different now :ohwell:0 -

Bring it. More chances to work on personal responsibility and flex that willpower till it is nice and swole.
Or just have some potato wedges and then go for a walk afterwords or something, whatever.0 -
Yes, now that TGI Friday's has decided to have all you can eat appetizers, I can feel myself gaining weight. In fact, I gained twenty-five pounds just from reading this thread alone.
I know it's a radical concept, but you are free *not* to eat at TGI Friday's if you do not want to. You will suffer no ill effects from not taking advantage of this deal. You will probably not suffer many ill effects from taking advantage of this deal in moderation. I might stay away from this restaurant because it is a little expensive.
I know this may be a libertarian viewpoint, but it's also one that's just common sense. Because it is a common sense, you should not reject it. There are other restaurants.0 -
Ha. you are so right. (jk) i just looked on mfp to see how many calories there are in those all you can eat potato skins…
oh? nothing on mfp per order..just per piece. so ..that would be 160 calories per one skin.
when you make food for the masses.. you have a responsibility ….making food more calorie laden than needed is wrong. we know this people after coutning calories. we know we could make a small potato skin for way fewer calories than 160.
this is why America is fat.0 -

I see nothing wrong with this. Just save up your calories during the week if you want to eat more at TGIF. That is why there are champion competitive eaters who can consume 10,000+ calories in one sitting easily and still have a BMI of 20. They fast between large meals.
TGIF is not making customers fat with one meal regardless of its size. Failure to eat more than your TDEE over time makes people fat.
Personally I love all you can eat buffets and often consume many plates. My health is perfect and I have never been one pound overweight because I track my intake. There are plenty of people like me.
If you need evidence I can link a video of myself eating 18 doughnuts while running 5 miles, eating an entire large pizza in under 10 minutes for fun or consuming 10 ice cream cones at once the day after my first marathon. I hit my macros for the week during each of these experiments. Just change your calorie/macro goals on other days to compensate0 -

Wrong. America is fat because people prefer to live in ignorance about what they are putting in to their bodies - either portion-wise, or content-wise. That is no more TGIFriday's responsibility than it is Coke's or McD's or whatever. Those are businesses, who are tasked with providing a product that tastes good to the public and yields their business owners/shareholders some profits. They have no obligation whatsoever to minimize calories. They are going to make their products with things people like and that will get butts in the seats: cheese, grease, sugar, and flour.
Mmmm... cheese grease, sugar and flour.0 -

I'm pretty sure their motive is more butts in seats and not necessarily making America fatter. These sit-down chains are getting their balance sheets handed to them by fast casual restaurants who make the same, if not better, quality food without surly waitstaff and coked-up line cooks.
I'm pretty sure they don't have a place for you to hitch your high horse anyway.
HAHAHAHAHAHA! If laughing qualifies as exercise, I just burned 20 calories! (Giddyup!)0 -

Eating out sometimes is fun. Where I love, just down the street, Whole Foods has a wonderful "healthful high road" menu, including a killer salad buffet. The mall also has BJ's Brewery, Chipotle, and there's a Denny's just down the street. Across form Denny's is In and Out Burger. Rarely eat out, but all these places are fantastic. Yep...moderation.0 -
I just see the big picture. Progressive restaurants are not doing these kinds of promotions. for obvious reasons.
I snicker at how some of you blame me for pointing out someting significant and that just makes plain sense. :drinker:0
