The deadlift thread got me thinking, just out of curiosity, if you could do only 3 exercises in the gym for the rest of your life, what would they be?

for me;
-Overhead press
-Deads
-Pendlay rows

i love all 3 and this would give you the best muscle balance IMO

Don't even need lifts. Can just pick three exercises:

    Pushups, Burpees, and squat jumps.

    Squats, pull-ups and burpees.

Edited: I read this as three exercises, not lifts.

    Bench press, squats, deadlifts

Non-lifting? Push ups, sit ups, sprints.

im glad im not the only one. if they werent so effective at building joocy quads and glutes i would never squat lol

sometimes i think being a curlbro wouldnt be so bad after all....

Definitely deads and squats. I guess I'd probably pick OHP for my third because while it's the bane of my existence, it's got the most real world application of the remaining compound lifts.

i should really get into clean and press, my two favourite lifts mashed into one (ohp & deads)

I love them. Challenging, and you can use light weight to make it a really challenging cardio type move, or go for the heavy weight. But it's nearly a full body workout, which is why if I can only have three lifts, this is one of them!

    wow...

    not sure I can choose..

Weights...Deadlift just cause I love em, Squats cause I love what they do for my butt....toss up between bench and OHP...however rows are becoming a favorite after losing that last bit of stubborn back fat....oh the humanity I can't choose...

Non weight pull ups, biking, plank jacks..amg love those

    OHP
    Bench
    Pullups

if i did just what i really wanted to it would be this, or maybe even weighted dips instead of bench.

but i'd have to be a good boy and sub squats for OHP

negative. it can, but i do them in the power cage starting from around hip height (and then back up to give myself room) if im feeling lazy

eta; if you mean during the lift then the answer is no, you'd have to be bent over pretty far to do this. the plates are usually about 6" off the ground at full extension of my arms when i do them

    Squats
    Deads
    C&J

Assuming I couldn't include a complex lift in my choices.

video of Glenn Pendlay demonstrating the Pendlay row: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlRrIsoDpKg

ETA: to answer the question - yes the bar should be on the floor at the start and the end of each rep. See the video for the rest of the advice about correct form.
