If this story is true, you can bet she went through all of your stuff. All of it.

^^ seriously. Board your cat next time.
Cats are not boarding friendly. They detest leaving their natural environments.

Okay, this has gone on long enough. There is only one way to settle it. You ladies get naked and fight it out in the pool of jello. It's the only way to be sure.

You're going to leave us no choice but to issue summary judgement in favor of the plaintiff, which will include punitive damages and a walk of shame.

Yeah I would check to make sure things aren't missing.

    I didn't steal nothing!!!

No you just broke in, ate all the food, broke the furniture and slept in my bed.

Excuse me for being a little miffed at the disrespect.

And you owe me $68.27 for the lock.

Is her name by any chance goldilocks?

I'd be pissed! I bet I can top this story. My neighbor and his gf who were housesitting and dogsitting for us 11 years ago killed my puppy. Welll, let's just say my puppy was on death's door and they didn't do a damn thing.

They lied and said that he was perfectly fine. I got home and found him on the floor, skinny as a skeleton, and barely alive. He was rushed to the vet's and didn't make it. Sorry for hijacking your thread but I have to REALLY trust the next person to take care of my pets.

WTF? They left him to die??? That's so unbelievably horrible!!! How could they do that?

Yep. He had vomited all week because he ate one of my husband's hunting socks. No apology from either one of them. Then the following year he bought a really nice red sports car. I got drunk and my friend and I keyed it all up! Yes, it was immature but I think I was a tad justified!

    Nothing to do now.

If there were boundaries, you should have spelled them out for her prior to your trip.

If you value her as a friend, let it go and lay out some fground rules next time.

If you don't, let it go and don't ask for her help again.

    Exactly this.

Pfft. I would feel totally violated as well I can understand your frustrations. But then again I don't trust or like 90% of people anyways and would never trust them in my house without me there....even professional pet sitters. Thankfully I have family in the local area I can trust. I wouldn't confront her. I'd just avoid her at all costs and never hire her again lol.

    What I would do:
Get the address of where she works.
Sign up for every free catalog, samples, news letter, etc. that you can find online (hint: sign up with YOUR email address but HER WORK mailing address. That way, when they want confirmation, you can confirm.)

    Then...
Address it to her name, DBA (does business as) some terrible company name...
    for example:
    Lisa Smith, DBA Merkins Unlimited
    or
Lisa Smith, DBA Vagazzle Your Granny, Inc.
or even different "business names" for each mailing.

That way, you turn that frown upside down!

I have not come across the word merkin in quite some time. Thanks for the laugh!

You might want to not Google Merkin at work.

My cat would pig out on it. We went out on a trip for like 3-4 days and we left all this, a neighbor was going to check if everything was ok and turn on the lights at night.

He called me and asked if I had left food for my cats, I said I did and if he did not see the mountain of it, he said no.

He only saw my 2 cats on the floor with their bellies full probably on hibernation. I ended up asking him to buy them some more and leave a quarter of a bag and check the next day.

THEY ATE 8 POUNDS OF CAT FOOD.

    IN ONE DAY.

    :grumble:

I haven't tried to figure out how much food they can eat in a day- but I have one who self feeds- he is a larger cat- but not obese- could stand to lose a little weight- but I think he is quiet healthy.

The other one is straight up obese- I adopted her like that (I didn't realize it b/c the pictures were deceiving- and it was my fault for not asking for better proof).. regardless... she CAN.NOT. be free fed.

She's gotten even fatter in the last year- my other cat has maintained... it's ridiculous. I can only leave them for a day or two at most b/c she just eats constantly. I've taken to two small feedings a day and that's all they get. Makes me sad and annoyed- but she's so unhealthy. God- if I left the top off- how bad would that be.

I don't' understand cats that can't free feed- weird little freaks of nature.

One of them has a regular weight and the other is like a big poofy ball walking around the house.

    Perhaps a pound a day?

Why is everyone saying this is a troll thread?
Because, this thread has nothing to do with MFP.

Perhaps that is why it is in the Chit Chat Fun and Games section? And this isn't a troll thread. Its from a MFP user who has been here for a bit and she is asking for advice. Troll threads are usually by newbies, who don't have their profile filled, or older members looking to have some fun. :)

My random speculations on your situation.

    * You described to her a "look in on the cat" arrangement
    * She probably heard it as a "look after the house, ie, house sit" arrangement
    * Even though she lives close maybe she has roommates and saw this as hangout on my own opportunity

No excuses really for the break the lock, break the chair, use the house as her own and not flush, clean, etc. But I'd bet in her mind she's thinking she's doing the favor for you so................

I wouldn't ask her to pay for anything, she could come back and ask you to pay her for "house sitting". If you are extremely non-confrontational as suggestion either mention it by email, or just cut ties semi-cold turkey. Especially if you aren't going to be able to let it go.
