I'm curious as to what characteristics make a high heel go from sexy tasteful to whorey skanktastic in a milisecond. Is it the height of the heel? The color? The straps?

Why do women sacrifice comfort to wear these contraptions?

As a woman, I really don't understand the appeal of high heels. If anyone takes the time to actually look what they do to the ligaments/tendons/bones in your feet, they'd be more likely to stop wearing them. My best friend's sister constantly says she has a bad back and knee, yet she spots 4"-6" heels on a regular basis. It's crap. Stop killing yourself for the sake of vanity.

Once, I watched a girl stumbling over the cobbles in Covent Garden. I think that was the point where I decided I'm not wearing them anymore. Took the poor girl ten minutes to wobble across the square and I feared for her ankles. When I did use to wear them, I can honestly say everytime I went out with my friends whilst wearing big heels I fell over *at least* once during the night and always came home with a bruise, graze and ripped tights.

I honestly don't know, but I believe it's so that you don't focus on the shoe, but on the body of the competitor. High heels help calves and other leg muscles "pop", but a bright colored heel would detract your focus from the legs so that you're looking at a shoe.

But that's just a guess. I'm looking into competing next year and I do believe that you actually can wear other shoes than the clear, but clear seems to be the overwhelming shoe of choice.

I wear them 5 days per week for work. I love wearing them. They make me feel stylish and put together.
They're unacceptable if the woman cannot walk properly in them. Any woman that can't walk in the heels, should NOT wear the heels haha

I'd suggest that women steer clear of clear 6-inch heels unless they want to look like a hooker.

I wore heels today, as I do about once a week at work, and I'm really regretting it because my attorneys have me running around like crazy this morning. However, heels are sexy and classy if you wear them correctly and can walk in them without looking like a baby deer taking its first steps. Shorties may use them to gain height as well.

I'm a flats girl, usually.

I don't like wearing heels as a rule. HOWEVER, I do like a nice wedge shoe.....I don't have any but if I have to chose a high shoe, I'll take a wedge. When you're dressed up, of course,, heels looks nice and makes the hips sway in a sexy way.

I like the way my legs look in them and I think they complete a professional outfit. I usually don't go higher than 3 inch heels, unless they have a platform. Any higher than that and they are too uncomfortable.

If you don't like high heels, then don't wear them. Don't be judgy.

I've always been a fan of high heels - they don't hurt my feet or give me knee or back problems. I don't wear the 6" heels, so maybe that's why, but I do have lots of 4" heels and a couple pairs of 5". In my opinion, the characteristics that make a heel look trashy are the design and heel/platform height. If the heel & platform are too tall, then they look like stripper shoes. If they're made out of plastic or crap material and have some crazy, loud, flashy designs or are overly sparkly then that, to me, looks cheap/trashy. But if they're a nice brand and real leather with a good design then I'm a fan. I also like the height, which I know sounds odd because I'm already about 5'10" barefoot, but I would much prefer to be able to see over the tops of peoples' heads rather than feel claustrophobic and unable to see around them, especially in crowded places like a bar or something.

*Edit to add - if they're well made and real leather or other good material, then I don't feel like I'm sacrificing comfort. The appeal of high heels is that they lengthen the look of the leg, which has a flattering effect, and - really - they just look sexy.

I don't wear them on a regular basis but I like to when I dress up. I like the way they make my legs look. And that I can take one off and beat somebody over the head with it if the need arises.

I absolutely ADORE heels. Im only 5" and I can walk in them fine, whatever the height. They make me confident and I feel taller, slimmer and hold myself better. They make legs look awesome. I dont think they always look whorish!

High heels are just plain sexy. If I hear high heels clicking on a hard floor it totally messes me up. If i'm having a conversation or concentrating I become instantly flabergasted, my heart rate increases, and my ......lets just leave it at that! Damn I love high heels.

Short is cute; tall is manly. And since about 1% of women can actually walk in heels and not look ridiculous, the chances are you are not one of them.
