Hey all - here is our new thread, for the month of January!

Any new comers - this thread is a 30lb by St Patrick's Day 2011 motivation group. If you're wanting to join in for support, jump right in! Post your current weight, goal weight, any current challenges or obstacles, and current exercise and dietary style. Word of caution, I don't advocate going for 30lbs between now and 3/17 as that is well over the recommended 2lbs a week, but any healthy goals are welcome at this point.

Try and post here daily with updates on our weekly challenges, along with general supportive discussion, questions, and commentary. The more you post, the better your outcome likely will be!

I want in, i am a quarter irish after all

    Current weight: 172
Goal weight for St. Patty day: 152 (thats 20 pounds)
Current diet: I am taking in 1600 calories a day due to the fact i am doing P90X. My diet consists of lots proteins, no soda, and no fried foods. I have also cut down red meats down to once a month. Lots of veggies and fruits as well. No pasta

Current workout plan: Because it is so cold outside, i have decided to do P90X lean program. This gives me an hour a day to workout

I would like to join the group! CW 186.8 GW by 3/17 170 that is 16.8 lbs. I kind of hit a plateau about a month ago, and have gotten discouraged. With the break from work (I am a teacher) I think I am refreshed and ready to hit it hard again!

    Goals
    1200 calories a day
1 Walk at Home work out 5 times a week
No more than 2 soft drinks a week

Haven't lost yet, only regained, since we wrapped up the holiday celebration (and by birthday!) yesterday. I don't typically post the weight that I gain because it often gets resolved in a short amount of days. I am starting at 152 and hope to be down to 122 by St. Patty's day. Here is my ticker for this challenge:

  • Alright! Starting for our weekly challenge tomorrow, I'm actually going to post both a food and an exercise challenge! You can try for either, or both :)

Remember to try and check in here daily and tell us how you're doing with the challenges, as well as general conversation.

Food challenge: Try to incorporate one new fruit or vegetable this week, try the same one a few times if possible to "get used to it"

Workout challenge: Try to add an extra 5 minutes to your normal workout routine, you could go for it all at once, or add an extra minute or two each day to build up to 5. Tell us how it goes!
  • Nice challenge Velvet!!!

Also - just wanted to say that I will totally be participating more once I get back to my regular schedule on Monday... I've been off work for two weeks and have hardly been around my computer at all! But I will be back!

Alright, I'm reporting in for my weight this week. I am at 191.6. December wasn't a good month...but I pray this month is a good month even if I lose a few more pounds. I'll be happy.

very good ive been slacking on the workouts and im always looking for new veggies

    How did everyone's week go?

my week went well im just very happy to have survived (or rather bounced back from) holidays with no major setbacks from bad choices/temptations. not really over eating but def have a hard time not drinking my calories away with energy drinks juice soda and alcohol. at least with mfp i can see what im doing and make better choices and not freak out about the scale knowing i have the key.

any one make any resolutions they care to share?
last year was the first year i made any (besides in grade school when forced to) and that went well for me so this year
i resolve to take better care of my self.
i always put everyone else before me and i know i cant make anyone else happy if i don't take care of me first.

Hi, I'm back. Horrible week last week. Year end craziness at work, they fed us crap everyday to keep us at our desks and too tired to workout or cook after work. So I think I gained all back, but afraid to look. I needed a re-boot!!!

So on Jan 1, I ran a 5K. it was 10 degrees during the race (wind chill of -1), and snow covered the course. It was probably one of the craziest things I've ever done. Very slow race for me, I ran in 42 minutes, (13:34 mile pace). But I did it, and I wasn't last in!!!!
  • Alrighty! Hope everyone had a good weekend and that we're all getting in gear for this week's challenge!

New years resolution? To properly plan my veg garden before buying seeds and planting at random!! And to try to eat as "cleanly" as possible. I'm working on a lot of from scratch stuff :)

New veggie this week: trying golden beets asap :)

    I did the fitness challenge

Normaly i do 45 min workouts everyday. It can be anything from circuit training to my elliptical. But today was my 3rd day of P90X and the dvd was 72 mins. Damn. That about 27 mins over my normal workouts. Surprisingly, i feel ok.
  • I want in! CW 181 GW 150. I always start out strong, but lose motivation after the first week or so. Hopefully this will keep me on track!

I added grapes and califlower for the food challenge. Right now it is difficult to find fresh fruits or veggies here so those were the only two items I felt safe buying! Ate both last night and today, feeling great and planning to go buy more since it was so delicious!
  • Okay Im In! I am up 12 pounds from this time last year! I was 200 on the money today! I want to be 180! Only two pounds a week! Easy right:)

My partner is a super pickey eater. Does not eat anything green eats very few veggies. I have found I make compromises so that I am not making two meals. Somethings I change and just don't say hey....that was healthy.

My husband was like that also - I just started finding creative ways to slip in veggies, or I'd keep offering them and eventually he'd say yes, lol. I'd make little changes like fresh spinach on his sandwich instead of lettuce. If I make something heavier for him now and then I'll give myself a small portion and a big plate of salad or steamed veggies on the side.

Well, the good news is I tried tomatoes, squash and zucchini. Ive tried them before and didnt care for them. This time I tried to think positive before I ate them and they werent that bad. I cant say they are good to my taste buds but I can deal with them.

Now the bad news is I went WAY OVER my sodium today. Went out to dinner with a friend and realized how much sodium these places put in the food.

Well, I'll be drinking ALOT of water for the next couple of days.

Oh, the fitness challenge....I typically try to workout for 1 hour. So far, I worked out for 1 hr and 45 mins. I knew I was going to dinner so I wanted to have enough calories to eat. However, I still ended up going over by about 100 calories. So im going to do something to burn that off before I go to bed.
