well the air show was awesome!! Scott was more interested than I...he was an airline fuel tech in the late 80's at the Airport in Cedar Rapids. To this day he can name almost any plane....name, #, etc by site. impresses me. he chatted with some Marines and then a pilot of a plane who he knew the previous owner. we did not go prepared....both are sun burned. we took lawn chairs and a charged camera. I had my lip gloss for sun protection (cold sores) and cash to eat and drink with. Scott had a hat. Before we left he washed the truck and put gas in it. I got cash. this could have been done last nite. Our discussed "departure" time ended up being a 1/2 hour later. We arrived 10 minutes after the gates were opened. Our camera was dead within 2 hours. They expected 50,000 spectators...I have no idea the results, but I have never been to an outdoor event with so many people. mostly adults. The USAF Thunder Birds were awesome! WOW! loved it..very good show! well worth the $$.
We went to where Tyler works and waited for him to finish his shift. He is done with his training, and in 3 days/about 17 hours he made almost $320 in tips! geez, I'm in the wrong profession! anyway, it was so good to see him and visit. I can say....my oldest son is maturing....I really noticed it today. He seems really happy and likes all of his classes. still waiting for a college loan to be paid out.
anyway just wanted to say hi and hope everyone is doing ok. take care folks.0 -
haven't felt so well...maybe from too much sun at the air show. so it's been a couch & tv day. I did pick up the house and do some dishes. making salads for supper. gonna try and do some laundry.
might check in later to post some goals....I really need to do something.
thinkin of ya ladies...take care0 -
Just checking in. Ody's first day of school tomorrow so I am off to bed now. Have a good night!0

Here's to a happy and healthy week team.
Trying to focus on getting back to a healthier me. I have to agree with Scott, I spend too much time on the internet. Feels like I am starting over...at the very beginning here. I mean, I have lost all muscle tone, cardiovascular capacity and endurance pretty much at zero. Noticing some dimpling re-appearing and jiggle everywhere. Clothes are snug.
I tend to make excuses or completely put off exercising. That's always been my biggest downfall. I mean even if I have a bad day eating or go out, etc, if I continue to exercise, it will still benefit me. Exercising helps me mentally, so so much. I want that feeling back.
I walked 2 miles today and it took me 31 min. I then got on my treadmill and jogged at 3.6mph 1 mile. it took me 17 minutes. That means I walked a mile faster than I jogged...I know the speed was pretty slow, but I wanted to be able to finish it. So, that's my goal... improving my time on a mile.0 -
Hi all.. looked at some of the Irene damage photos from other parts of NJ. I am very blessed. Thankful I had/have minor inconviences.
Barb0 -
well, I had a good day eating and exercising. I know the next few days my muscles will be sore, but if I keep at it, should be good by Friday. just gotta keep with it.
it's definitely hard to watch tv and see all the devastation from H Irene. prayers for all those affected...0 -
went for a 3 mile walk. gonna stretch here soon.
I'm in the early stages of a cold sore (basically herpes 1) breaking out on my chin from the sun Saturday at the air show. itchy, red, and blistering will be next. I usually feel sick during all this...headache, glands in neck tender. gets even uglier when it is crusty, scabby. will look nice for the V football game Fri and then picnic Monday. :frown: In the past I have tried Lysine tablets, Zovirax & Abreva...nothing really helps. just have let it work its course...0 -
Kelly- that stinks about the cold sore. GREAT JOB at getting back into exercise. Way to go on the jog! I don't like jogging so I don't do it and I know I couldn't jog a mile. You also walk a very fast mile if you did 2 miles in 31 minutes. I would not be able to keep up with you.
I am in a rut with my exercising and I need to change it up but lack the motivation to try something new. Someone please kick me out. I have been do the same thing everyday or almost everyday for just about 2 months. I want to swim but I think the chemicals they use in the pool cause me to have a itchy rash.:grumble: I need to add strength training into my routine but I feel stupid using the machines at the gym because I am not comfortable with them. I don't know how to do very many exercise to build my strength besides push ups, lungs & squats.
Zan and I are flying to Milwaukee on Saturday for my Grandpa's 85th Birthday. Dan and Ody are staying home because we don't have the money to all fly out. Plus, my Grandpa is not in the best health and if things gets worse it will be more important for all of us to fly home then. I am excited but I don't like flying. Going to see almost all of my mom's side of the family. We are going to have so much fun. I pray that I eat in moderation or else all of my hard work of late will be gone. I guess my Grandma is in the hospital. She has had the runs for 2 weeks. I hope she gets out soon or else we will have to party in her room this weekend.
Zan is actually taking a nap like a good boy that is why I am able to post such a long message. I am lucky if I get time to pay bills or check my email before Zan is trying to help me by typing on my keyboard. I think I hear some one calling for me. Have a great day!!0 -
Hey Angie...I think you are doing great! you've been pretty consistent with exercise...that's where I want to be (and STAY!). I don't really care for joggin either..but I think it really helps with my belly fat. I completed the C25K program last summer and basically just stopped (bad idea). I would LOVE to get to a point where I looked forward to it, and enjoyed it. I think a lot of my hesitation is that I am scared...or that I expect more of myself and then get upset when I struggle just completing a should-be easy jog. I really enjoy 'wogging'...walking and jogging simultaneously. it gives me a burst of increased heart rate and it's a good way to help improve on jogging longer.
As far as adding strength to your routine...do you have any hand held wts? even 3 lber's. If not, what about regular or larger sized soup cans? or half gallon sized milk containers filled with sand or rice? if you have a broom, mop, webster, even a yard stick, you could tie some socks on the ends (filled with rice or sand) to add some weight. I had to do that one as part of my therapy exercises for my shoulder. stretchy bands work too. do you have a basketball? even just lifting that or raising it over your head is resistance.
So sorry to hear about your grandpa's health. That will be so special that you are there!! I hope your grandma get's well enough to come home too. I sense your excitement and I'm sure you'll have a good time! Don't worry about eating...just do so in moderation like you mentioned and above all, have fun!!
How is Ody doing being back to school? Little Zan is at such a fun, fun age!!0 -
Morning Peppers,
well a day off and taking every moment of it. DH went on annual trip wont be back to monday and then I go on a 3 day trip with girls it will be nice to get a way. Finances are not great for a trip but mom likes company..
Kelly had trouble with financial aid with my son too. They canceled it because they put me down as married. They made a mistake never been married. So son said he fixed it and a couple of weeks later they made the same mistake still no financial aid had to pay half of the fee to hold the classes put the same paper in to fix but this time mommy was calling the shots. a week later went back and they told me i would have to pay for the classes and in october financial aid would pay me back. I said no way you people made the error and I dont have another payment this needs to be fixed and kept telling them they made the mistake. so they went out back and 10 mins later they came out with my financial aid. My son needs to be a little more agressive with these people and fight for what is his. they owe me 650 which should get back soon but not in time for my trip. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
well storm came and went no damage was in yard a couple times running around having some fun. love thunder storms. did not feel the earthquake at all. glad it is nice.
i really have to start taking better care of myself. feeling very slugish and sleepy all the time have to start exercising again and watching what i eat. I am not loosing or gaining but not feeling as good as i did when working out. Today will relax and clean house. tonight first workout. I am going to try to log in once a day as things are a little calmer at work,
have a great day and will check back later.0 -
Hi all. Just checking in.0

evenin' ladies....was almost done with a 4 paragraph post....and lost it.
busy here today. decided to go to the city today since it is gonna be hotter/muggier the next 2 days. did some returns, got me a new Oreck, my nails done and some groceries.
squeezed in a walk before my route and then a jog before my shuttle. getting hot and sweaty, a layer of dust all over, and then hot and sweaty again..is YUCK! a little sore all over since starting to move *again*. my chin is almost 3/4 covered with sores. hurts to turn my head/neck, and it's been so itchy today. think there's 9 sores total...
we are going to another wedding 9/24, in my birth city, Dubuque, bout 1 1/2 hrs away. we will be staying over nite, so I'm kinda excited, since we rarely do this.
found out last nite that a 5yr old girl on my bus route has just been diagnosed with Diabetes. Mom became concerned after talking to me and the teacher...she's been real sleepy, very thirsty, extremely quiet, almost listless. ER glucose was over 700! I feel so bad for her..poor thing. Not sure when she'll be back, hopefully next week. I bought a card for all the bus kids to sign and give to her. Her 2nd grade sister was telling everyone on the bus that she had CANCER!! I corrected them! omg!
Cindy ~ good to have you back...wish we could get Jacque here...have missed both of you a lot! my youngest son's FA finally came thru (actually his was paid out within a couple days of us re-questing). but oldest son has to wait 3 more weeks. he's a wreck right now. I just don't understand why it was so different this year...much relief that all you ladies made it thru Irene. I was so worried for each of you. Enjoy your alone time..and the getaway sounds wonderful!!
Barb, how was the date? thinkin of you...
nite all, here's to a good, very good Thursday..and the 1st of September!!0 -
Hi all... dinner date w/the 48 y/o volunteer firefighter/horse man (he has horses) was nice. I enjoyed my time w/him. We are discussing plans for next week. Now, he needs a haircut... too long for me. My work girlfriend Jacki said that's because we're used to seeing short crewcuts on men. Yup...I am.
I was invited by another guy to meet him a dance club tomorrow night. So, I'll go there. This guy is 43.
And last night I had a conversation w/a guy who wants to meet me for coffee next week. He's a health admin person/part time professional piano player, age 52.
Yesterday, I did get an email from a guy who wants to be friends w/benefits... I politely declined that.
I was getting a little down for lack of email from the free & paid site. Was thinking what, guys don't want to talk to me... they add me to their favorite list or want to meet me list yet can't email me? So, what happened got 3 email from the free site while I was on my date. So I need to be patient.
Now eharmony sends me matches daily yet no communication from these matches. Well, it's truly their loss. Again, I need to be patient. Patience is a tough one for me.
Kelly, hope your cold sores heal quickly.0 -
afternoon folks...
hot day here in eastern Iowa. we had early dismissal do to heat/humidity/dew point. been trying to get some house chores done, but not having much luck. did get a 3 mile walk in earlier and will stretch here soon. muscles aren't as sore now, so that makes me feel good. my chin looks reeaaalllyyy nasty...and I am getting some *stares* from the kids. I've been using a combination of about 3 things, no not all at once. when I go outside in the sun, I use my 45 lip block, yup put it on my chin... during the day I have been using Camphophenic gel. it helps dry it up. and occ'l I use carmex and Abreva. Not getting better yet, still have some forming...in fact I am expecting a week yet of scabs. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. I just gotta remember to use the block, problem solved, plus no rubbing, itching, bumping, squeezing, kissing, STRESS. easy right? I can't even wash my face with a wash cloth or I'll break out. even going to the dentist, I can break out if they bother my lips too much.
Barb...lots of interesting prospects!! firefighter with horses....hospital CEO that plays the piano (Pretty Woman ) Actually, the horses AND the piano, Pretty Woman!! Ima call you PW now.... any interesting dreams to share....? yes, patience dear. I'm tickled that you are eager and willing...not an easy thing to do after all you've been thru. You'll get there....I know it.
after having some problems with this site, over a month now, I switched to Google Chrome, and so far so good! It was taking me forever to comment on news feeds, add my food, exercise.. hope all is fixed!
take care ladies!0 -
Kelly - so sad to hear your chin isn't doing better. Wishing you a quick recovery.
Well, the hospital administrator could be the clerk typist.... hey, I don't care - what profession they are. Can they pay their bills, not ask me for money and treat me w/respect. If they can do that - all is well.
And I did dream -- strange - all the townspeople were undergoing a test to determine who made the sidewalks move. We all had to put on a zebra striped robe -- it was me. It was revealed I had the power, I am the queen.... and the townspeople treated me like royalty. Note, I have a zebra striped snugglie in my room.
Off to kickboxing... Have a good weekend.
Kelly - contact me Saturday for the 411 on tonight's date.0 -
weight 172.8.... pretty much remaining the same.
Yuck0 -
happy day everyone...it's Friday!
I am tired ...woke before 5, fell back asleep after 5:30 and had a dream, but the alarm ended it...the kind you want to go back to.
Barb! Yup, you do have the "power, royalty"..you're the *queen* and the pretty woman! sidewalks move b/c of the earthquake? Irene? shakin things up a little bit?? I like. please diagnose!
my weight is down, I think about 4. have not 'checked in' yet. I will post the August chart sometime. have a football game later today and rain/storms are expected. might be a nite on the bus...takin plenty of things to do/read. Gonna work in the house today.
have a good one0 -
hi just doing a fly - by...
had another early out today...MAN, that messes up my schedule!! did get bills done, house is picked up, laundry done. gonna walk/jog on the treadmill. then get all my food ready for bus trip. leaving here at 4:30.
I guess I am down 6lbs this week. After 4 'on track, on the wagon' days, the extra fluids are going...and going..I feel so so much better! my chin is less tingly now, and not as painful. oh, n that Camphor does something to me...makes me feel weird, the smell or something...
might check in later if I'm not too tired/post football trip.0 -
Had a post & lost it... urgggggghhhhhh
My counselor had a sign on her door closed due to a family emergency. I didn't know until I got there. Instead I went to an antique store near the counselor's office. Got some lovely things for the house.
Also went to Lowes. Learned during Irene, could not find the bigger flashlights and the double A were not working even when I put in new batteries .... so decided get flashlights & extra batteries. What was my blessing is I got replacement battery for one big flashlight weeks before Irene. I also got extra batteries for all the smoke alarms I installed last weekend. So when time to replace those batteries, I all set.
Heading to the dance club to meet this new guy soon.
Kelly, glad you're feeling better. The dream hasn't been analyzed yet. All I can say is this.... perhaps my life turning in new direction.

hope you ladies are enjoying the holiday weekend!
spent most of yesterday at my folks...the guys are putting a new roof on the garage. they didn't get to finish because of rain, so they've been up there since around 9am and I am going soon. I guess they think I need to eat with them. didn't do so well yesterday, so trying harder today.
been organizing a medicine cabinet, and 2 cupboards in our main bathroom...wow. lots of things getting pitched. looks 100% better! our medicine cabinet above the sink is the 3-panel mirror style. It's all arranged now so that we each have our own panel/3 shelved section. I'm proud of myself.
chin getting better. no more pain, but could have some once scabs come off and new ones form...it's a process.0 -
Well, for all those following along -- my date on Friday wasn't what I expected. Oh well...
I did meet someone today at a book store. He also from the free dating site... he would like to see me again.
Spendt a lot of yesterday working on my yard. Putting stuff out I put away due to Irene. And get this ladies. I built me a fire pit out of bricks the last owner left (note, I've been here for 8 yrs now). Made me a night fire last night. Got marble stone to put around the fire pit now for safety.
Off to the yard I go....0 -
had a gathering today with my mom's family at our town park. nothing really healthy cept fruit. ready to get back at it tomorrow.0
-
Build it and people will come -- built my fire pit and guess what.. had my volunteer fire fighter friend over. He gave his stamp of approval on my fire pit set-up.
Now where's the marshmallows? Actually, it's raining so no fire for me tonight...
Burn, baby, burn... disco inferno, burn baby burn....0 -
really struggling here today...breakfast was good, but downhill ever since. I really don't like candy, but **it** IS one of those things once I start, it is hard to stop. ds brought a bag of Starbursts out to the kitchen. cherry and strawberry are my favorites. a serving size is 8 pieces, I had a good 18-20. after my pm bus route I had a bowl of chocolate chip ice cream with chocolate and caramel toppings and some walnuts. carb coma. now I don't want supper but everyone else does....
fyi...if you have the surgery I had in July, you will likely have a monthly cycle. just finished #2. trying not to let this bum me, but it does/has.
Barb..we have a home made fire pit. from a tractor wheel rim from in-laws farm. I moved it earlier this summer. haven't used it once.0 -

-
Barb- Congrats on the fire pit! I am glad the fireman gave his approval on your fire pit so now you know you are safe.
Kelly- Long holiday weekends are made for eating all the wrong things. I enjoyed eating foods that I don't normally get to eat all weekend long. I am sure I gained at least 2 pounds.
Zan and I made it home from my grandpas party in IL. Flying is not my favorite thing and due to the weather we had pretty bumpy ascents and descents. I got freaked out. I was sure the plane was crashing!! Zan slept through it all. So tired today from lack of sleep over the weekend Zan and I took a 3 hr nap. I didn't get any exercise in today. Will definitely have to get it in tomorrow. I think Zan has croup I am going to try to get him into the doctors tomorrow. Ody is enjoying school. He got to swim today, which he really enjoys especially at school since the pool is warm. Have a great night Peppers!0 -
Evening all. did a 1 mile jog, nautilus & kickboxing today.
Yes, Angie.. fireman did give his approval. And I approve of him. :blushing:
Of the men, I've met so far, I like this one....enjoy his company.
Got court in the morning. Perhaps favorable response.

Hi all,
I know I have been very bad and not keeping in touch. Life has really been a cruel mistress. So today even with allergy driving me crazy I got up and decided to shake the barnicals off and get moving again. Will try to catch up on past post and hope everyone is doing well. I did a 2 mile walk today according to my pedometer. It was nice to be outdoors even with the allergy. So today I am going to try and stay focus and just takle one day at a time. Well got to run and take daughter to unemployment office. Will try to checkin later
Jacque0 -
HI Jacque...glad to see ya here...missed ya, a lot! sorry life has been draggin ya down. hope that all changes soon and things are better quickly. you back to work yet? allergies, ick. not too bad yet for me, but oldest son has been bad since early Aug. he takes Allegra and I think uses Nasocort too. I used to have bad allergies from high school up until about 10 yrs ago. then they just stopped. I occ'l sneeze now, but no more congestion. I guess I out grew them?
made me a LIST today...chores, not the fun kind of list that Barb has...
I have not exercised since Friday, so gonna walk here soon and stretch. food ok so far and logged.
have a good one all0 -
Ok, I was going to go to kickboxing last night..... however, I fell asleep.
After my morning appt, I spendt the afternoon w/the fire fighter tending to his horses, his goat... went to the state park.. and then he took all old rusty metal shelvling out of my shed. What a help that was!
I'll do kickboxing tonight.0
