Ever notice how some women seem to stay slim without ever stressing about missed workouts or counting a single calorie? It seems unfair—and frustrating!—but those ladies might have some secrets the rest of us can steal. Turns out, you don’t have to completely overhaul your diet or exercise regimen to see fast and impressive results on the scale. (Though if you want a great, easy-to-follow plan, register for the Drop 10 Challenge on Self.com to lose 10 pounds in just five weeks.) In fact, recent research shows that sometimes it’s little, practically effortless changes to everyday habits that make the pounds fall off fast and forever. Try incorporating some of these simple, science-backed steps into your day-to-day life—it’s your turn to become one of those “naturally” slim lucky few!
Make time for tea
Women with the highest intake of catechins, antioxidants in tea that may accelerate fat burn, gained less weight over 14 years than those who sipped less, a study in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reveals. White and green brews have the most catechins. Get brewing!
Move your workouts to the morning
Breaking a sweat before you sit down to breakfast can help you trim down faster, a study in The Journal of Physiology finds. Exercising on an empty stomach in the A.M. improves glucose tolerance, which spurs your body to shed fat.
Join the breakfast club
If you don’t already have regular morning meals, it’s time to start: Lifelong early eaters have a waistline about 2 inches smaller than that of breakfast skippers, The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reveals. An A.M. meal may rev metabolism; plus, it may cause you to make less of an enzyme that raises cholesterol.
Savor your food
Eating slowly and steadily can help you stay slim. People who took 30 minutes to eat a bowl of ice cream created more fullness hormones than did those who ate faster, a study in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism notes. Whenever you can, ditch distractions like the television while you’re dining so you can concentrate on enjoying the yummy food in front of you.
Become a creature of habit
Eating at the same times every day and could help you drop pounds. When mice ate at scheduled mealtimes and fasted for 12 hours at night, their liver turned on genes that burned more sugar and fat, say scientists at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, California. No, we’re not mice, but if something as simple as sitting down to dinner at 7 P.M. every night helps speed weight loss, why not give it a shot?
Start with water
Downing two cups of H2O before meals helped people lose about 5 pounds more than those who said no to water, research from Virginia Tech reveals. Water is filling, so sippers ate 75 to 90 calories less. Enjoy a few cups of water while you prep a meal or before your entrée arrives at a restaurant to effortlessly keep calories in check.
Step on the scale
Dieters who weighed themselves at least weekly lost more weight than those who didn’t, according to research from the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation. Plus, the habit helped nondieters stay at a stable weight. Spotting scale swings early allows you to tweak your eating and exercise routine before pounds can pile up.

When you weigh in on your home tab it will automatically change for you!
But it shows the weight loss from the time we started on MFP, not our weight loss from when we started this challenge. I don't want to go back and reset it to no weight lost..0 -
You are going to have to educate me on the V8 ways.
I had a great day at the beach....lots of walking...eating healthy...I even ate an apple! I almost forgot what it tasted like. My mantra? For sweets I will eats, fruit (sorry people).
We can do this, Yes We Can!0 -
Thanks for the advice on the 'weight scale' procedure.
I will try drinking tea....if it helps me lose weight, I'm down.0 -
One more, than it's time to shut it down.

I will probably show a gain on my weigh in tomorrow but ya know what? Its a new day and i am going to do awesome. I have decided i am not going to be fat!! It may take me a while but i WILL be a healthy weight. i am having trouble with the whole life style change thing. I have been on a diet most of my life but this time i will do it right. Thanks for the support everyone here has given me.0

I have issues of eating too little?? I know, crazy but I have lost about 10 lbs in two months and have plateau'd so everyone told me that maybe I am not eating enough.....Well, I have not yet put this theory to test but I did find this article and I think it could help many of us with the whole calorie intake and how to lose thing.

SW 150
GW 125
I made a whole bunch of healthy option foods this past week and have been great at sticking to them. I even made a cauliflower pizza crust (no flour)!!0 -
I have trouble eating all my calories too - especially if I have an amazing exercise day... There are so many theories on the starvation mode thing and I'm just not ready to jump on one wagon or another -- I try to eat till I'm satisfied, and I also try to go to bed not feeling hungry but not totally full... I notice that when I eat and then go to bed (within a 2 hour time period) I rarely lose and I don't sleep as well. But that's me!
I'm doing great on the 4/5 servings of veggies but it has made me realize -I rarely eat fruits!!!! I love savory and salty things so its easier for me to do veggies.
Last night and today's lunch, I made spaghetti out of zucchini and it was delicious!!!! Didn't miss the big bowl of pasta one bit!!!0 -
Ok guys so first weigh in today I have to admit, i havn't been doing too well with the fruits and veggies this week since im up in college but now that im home im going to try harder! Hello All
I'm so in for this month. However i do love my fruit and veg. People that find it hard to eat fruit, the best nutrition are from all types of Berries.(Blueberries, Strawberries, Rasberries etc) if you make a smootie with your berries and natural yogurt and some natural sweetness of honey. It's great and refreshing and also low in calories.

Good start to the month, but this weekend will be difficult for me to stay on course. It's the French Quarter Festival this weekend in NOLA and I'm going to be doing a lot of drinking and eating. I have to remember to keep it in moderation, which is going to be hard. The food is just soooooooooooo good down here i can't pass it up. I'll just have to work out in the mornings this weekend. Hope everyone is doing well keep it up and have a great weekend I know I will.0 -
Not as much as I would like but some weight loss is better than none!! Need to work on getting more fruits and vegetables in this week.
4/1-138.2
4/8-136.80 -
Good Morning everyone!!!!!! ... Today is starting off a little rocky.... bc I didn't bring any breakfast with me and I have a buys day with client's... but...I weighed in yesterday at the gym- I'm at 171.5lbs
Wooohoo.
I had started MFP a while ago and started at 170... then gained 8lbs and now working it all off. I will be really happy when I get back to the 160's.
I go to work out classes Tues, Wed, Thurs and have never realized, that like here, if you keep coming back you become like a community. I've been talking to the instructors more and seeing more smiling faces when I come back that next week. It's kind of fun :-)
I'd love to make more friends on here if anyone is open to it. Good luck to everyone and happy friday!!!!0
