June Walking Challenge - Break a sweat!

This is continued from previous Walking Challenges, but its nice when each month has its own thread. :laugh:

*** Anyone can join in at any time, the more the merrier, lets keep each other motivated****

Walking seems like the easiest way to start getting exercise, and even if you can't track distance (or don't want to), tracking time is good too...go for a 10 min walk after dinner, or up it to 30 minutes, you'll be amazed at the end of the month how much more exercise your getting in. :)

Check in everyday with how far you walked or how long, this is just to motivate us to get in at least some exercise everyday, and keep an eye on each other.

Make a ticker and keep it in your signature to remind you of your goal, and show everyone how well your doing. Go to this website.

Pick out your ticker pictures, set your miles or minutes, and your goal. Then copy all of the bbCode into your signature. :) It will look like this (but in your ticker...like mine) You use the url (from the bbCode) to update your ticker everyday (you can find this in your signature after you post the code there), just remember your pin.

I want to try to keep this mostly to walking or walking type exercising. treadmills and ellipticals are A-OK. :laugh:

I just wanted to post these links again for the new comers :) Each one of these links is a mile walk. (or 12 min). With a total of 5 miles.

So if you aren't able to make it outside, (Because its summer and its :explode: HOT :explode: or don't have much time...12 minutes isn't asking a lot lol) then check them out to get in a quick walk.

    I like the idea of a ticker, something I'd see everyday, I would be more apt to obtain/achieve my goals.
  • Hi, I reaally like this one!! I seem to walk everywhere, and with it just being a Bank Holiday me and my Son have been for two lovely long walks, i put it down in my exercises as walking 2.0 mph, i have a walker monitor that tracks steps/Km/Kcals - do you think I can still use this and log each day/week this way? It doesn't tell me how many miles, but I can check on my watch what time i leave the house to when am back again for tracking how long etc.

    Well i'll share my walking today...

    12284 Steps
    8.722 Km

    Basically was out for most of the day, went to shops, but walked there and back down the cycle track, and went the longest way we could - My son was shattered when we got back!

    I'm DEFINITELY in for this one!! TY Neurotic Virgo for setting this up, it's been great! I've not changed my ticker yet as I intend to do some more walking tomorrow, for my May challenge, though I COMPLETED it already!! I've chucked sooooo much weight away, on my walks round my local park and beyond! Fantastic and thanks to MFP! :laugh: :laugh:

    i'm in, i've been slacking with exercise but I think I can fit walks in.

    my goal is 5 hours of walking this month. i am sure i will do more but i don't want to disappoint myself.

    I don't walk - at all so my goal is to walk 500 minutes in June. which is 8.3ish hours. I know it's not a lot but it's a start.

    Just try to let us know how your doing on your walks any time you can. :) 500 minutes is a good start, and you might surprise yourself.

    Did you guys see Extreme Makeover Weight Loss???? I feel like a WUSS whining at 45-60 minutes! That lady lost 161 lbs in a year! 5 hours of daily exercise like running on the beach...... where I'm real proud of me when I do 30 minutes a day!

    I'm in again although I am now doing run/walk intervals. Since I didn't complete my goal for May (75 miles) mostly due to horribly crappy weather most of the month, I am going to try for 75 miles again. And hopefully I will actually meet my goal for June.

    I'm in! I'm aiming for 15 hours.... That's about a half hour a day... I'll walk with my daughter in the stroller in the mornings. :)
  • i would join if i didn't have a job that in one month i'll walk over 50 miles. lol after adding the math i can't believe i walk 50 miles in a month just at work haha wow!!!!

    My training is almost over, but I'd like to continue walking even after The MoonWalk, so I'm going to try for 50 miles this month. Hopefully I can get some longish walks in on the weekends (and hopefully we'll actually get some sunny weather for them)!

    I think I'm going to try building up my speed this month! Thanks to Flausa for inspiring me!! This probably means that I won't do so many miles but I hope to feel the benefit. I'm down for a target of 100 miles but may not make that, here's hoping...!

    Great challenge!! I'm in!!
    Yesterday I walked for 40 minutes.
    My gal for this challenge is 900 minutes- but it would be awesome to hit 1000!
