I've decided that I want to try to get up to 4 miles an hour but not sure how long that will take.

The best way to up your speed is to shorten your stride and punp your arms to propel you. It feels a bit silly at first, but it really makes you move!

I finally got another walk in today - 6 miles.

Great! Thanks for the info and glad you got your walk in - won't be long now till the Moonwalk - are you getting anxious?

I had a great walk today, it seems the weather was better on the east coast - I've logged 6 miles cross country but I actually switched my phone app off at 7.6... Too many cals burned to think about!!!! Too tired! Treated myself to some Whittards luxury hot chocolate! Didn't push my speed as I was with the rambling group and difficult to do walking on rough ground.... :flowerforyou: :drinker:

Thank you, NV, for organizing this challenge. And thank you, Linda, for letting me know about it. It was just what I needed to boost my motivation. So far, so good! Had a wonderful 3.25 mile walk today at about 3.25 mph. That's a longer walk than usual and a little faster pace. And I did it without stopping to rest. I even jogged a little!! Helped that the weather was cool. I jumped on the stairstepper at the end of the day because I'd used up my calories and wanted a salad. I feel good!

30 minutes in today. :) Doing C25K...I might adjust my goal to a smaller one. I was going to try to walk on the other days, but I decided to either rest or do some AB stuff and give my legs a rest.

Not sure it it's cheating, but I am counting the hour I spent mowing the grass yesterday... hey, I am still taking steps, plus I am pushing a heavy mower (not self propelled)
I also got up this morning & taking an hour and 7 minute walk. I was bookin it, almost 4 miles an hour. I pushed my son in his stroller.

    4.1 miles today :-)
  • Hello and good luck to all in the Walking Program. Walking is a great way to lead into jogging and then running long distances. For example, in January 2009, I wasn't in the best shape, but I walked everyday and watched what I ate. After losing some weight, I started to jog and that led to running 5k fun runs on a weekly basis. In June of 2009, I ran the Indianapolis 500 Mini marathon without stopping and looking back during my training, I remember walking started it all off. Good luck to everyone!

This is down to Flausa's tip about moving my arms and taking smaller steps! I really didn't expect the effect to be so dramatic!! (Though it DOES seem a bit strange, doesn't it?) THANK YOU!! 3.25 miles today for me, at 3.25 mph. I'm almost half way to my goal and it's still the first week of June. I must have a competitive streak in there somewhere. This challenge is motivating. The cool weather we're having doesn't hurt either! Linda, awesome speed!

I'm up to 10 miles as of today!
  • Well I am already required to get 3 miles a day this week. Maybe I can find a nice mile route to walk my puppy on to cool down.
  • Darn weekends...stick in the spokes anyone?
Didn't fall off the wagon, but didn't accomplish what I had planned.

    But I did sign-up at Nike+.

A reminder to myself of what the next step will be.

Thanks for the words Mr. Grant.
    It was inspiring to me.

    Have a great day folks!

Feels strange, but soooo good, and I'm well pleased for you!

Only one more walk left this week before THE BIG ONE, so I'm doing short distances with speedwork. I was so chuffed, I actually powered up to 5mph for about 45 seconds and held at 4.5mph for 10 minutes which is a personal best. 2.4 miles in 35 minutes.

Got in a another 2.25 mile this morning with my dog. Awesome morning.

How do you ladies know how fast you are walking? What gadgets are you using? That is pretty neat.

I have been using a sportline pedometer watch to tell me my miles - I'll have to check the book to see if it can show speed.
