The week was filled with high sodium foods as we had two birthday celebrations, and both were at buffets! I avoid buffets because I have a penny pinching mentality and want to be sure that I eat as much as I can possibly hold to be sure I am getting my money's worth. So silly!!!! The food last night for my dad's 80th was excellent, it was the wine that we bought and no one seemed to be drinking that did me in. I felt obligated to drink an extra glass or two.
So, my weight is up! At one point I thought it was down but no...it is up. I can't figure this out! Truly, after years of doing this, I still don't get it.
Too many calories, too few calories, eat your exercise cals, don't eat your exercise cals. Excercise hard, exercise moderate, lift light and lift heavy.
When I get this way I am not sure if I should stick with the extreme or switch to...what can I live with every day mentality.
I will update my stats once I gather them. I have been keeping track when I log my food and exercise. I am not doing great on this one. The fruit and veggie thing is kind of hard but I am loving it. My carb count is super high as a result but hey, fruits and veggies are high in carbs but at least it isn't bread!

This was helpful to me and thought it might help others: http://nutrition.about.com/od/fruitsandvegetables/f/servingfruit.htm
Question: What Is a Serving of Fruit or a Vegetable?
Dietitians and nutritionists say to eat five servings of fruit and vegetables a day, but, what's a serving size? Is it one apple? Two carrots? Three large strawberries? Four Brussels sprouts? What about a large glass of tomato or orange juice?
When you say five servings, do you mean five fruits and five vegetables, or do you mean something like three fruit and two vegetables or two fruit and three vegetables? And what' the big deal about fruits and vegetables anyway.
Tipper - About.com User
Answer: The United States Department of Agriculture sets a serving size for fruit or vegetables to be equal to about one-half cup. Greens like spinach and lettuce have a serving size equal to one full cup. One serving of sliced fruit is equal to one-half cup; however a single piece of fruit, such as an apple or an orange counts as one serving.
How did the USDA decide that one-half cup is a serving size? The decision was based on the portion sizes that people typically eat, ease of use and nutritional content of fruits and vegetables.
Fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber and phytochemicals that may act as antioxidants that protect the cells in your body. Choose colorful and dark green fruits and vegetables for the most antioxidants. They're usually low in calories unless you add high calorie sauces, turn them into pies, or deep-fry them in oil. Make it easier to add increase the amount of fruits and vegetables you eat by keeping a bowl of fruit on your kitchen counter and serve fresh cut vegetables with dip instead of greasy potato or corn chips. I know potatoes and corn are vegetables too, but in the form of deep-fried chips, they're usually high in fat and sodium.
Many nutrition and dietary experts suggest you eat from five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables every day. That is a total. Older or inactive women and smaller children need at least three servings of vegetables and two servings of fruit. Growing kids, teen girls, most men and active women should eat at least four servings of vegetables and three servings of fruit every day. Teen boys and active men should eat at least five servings of vegetables and four servings of fruit every day. Unfortunately many people fail to eat even the minimum suggested level of five servings of fruits or vegetables each day.
Here are some typical serving sizes for fruits and vegetables:
Fruits
one banana
six strawberries
two plums
fifteen grapes
one apple
one peach
one-half cup of orange or other fruit juice
Vegetables
five broccoli florets
ten baby carrots
one Roma tomato
3/4 cup tomato juice
3/4 cup vegetable juice
half of a baked sweet potato
one ear of corn
four slices of an onion
You may notice that serving sizes on the Nutrition Facts Label of packaged fruits and vegetables are not always the same size as the one-half cup serving size that the USDA has set for the food pyramid. Some frozen vegetable blends for example may list the serving size as 3/4 cup, which would meet one and one half cups of your vegetable need for the day.0 -

LOVED THIS!!! Thanks for posting! :0)0 -
Tara...good question. Unfortunately I'm not going to be posting here anymore. It's too difficult to transfer from a grid/table in word, to here. I'm so sorry. Like I've said before, this is the first time I've ever tried to do a spreadsheet. Unfortunately, I didn't realize how annoying it is to post one on here before deciding to do it! haha.. before I do another challenge I will either figure it out or have someone who is a lot more advanced at this stuff volunteer to be the keeper of the info...
If you would prefer to give your email to someone on your team whom you trust I would understand.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause all of you!0 -
I'm sorry if i mis-understand Tausha, is this challenge still going on?0

Wow Donna! I could have typed this myself, I so know what you are talking about! It's stupid the way I let my mind get messed up by what should be really simple. And thanks for the fruit veggie article. Sad to say my very active teenage boys aren't getting anywhere the recommended amount and they like fruit!0 -
Check in time.
9/15: no pushups, fruit and veggies 4, cups water 8
9/15: pushups done: fruit and veggies 6, cups water 16
9/16: pushups done; fruit and veggies 5, cups water 17
9/17: pushups-no; fruit and veggies 6, cups water 6 logged but I drank much more than that. Bad day of logging:ohwell:
9/18: pushups done: fruit and veggies only 4 servings, cups water 10
9/19; pushups done; fruit and veggies 2 so far ; cups water 10 so far
Other than Saturday, I've been pretty good about logging everything. If I have a big salad for lunch, I will hit my fruit and veggie goal for the day but if not, it's really hard to do!
Dang Melly-249 pushups?????? You're a beast!! (I mean that in the most positive way possible!)0 -

Tausha- The spreadsheet you emailed out was great!
I did a lot of experimenting so I could help Tausha figure out how to post a spreadsheet here. I think I finally have it! I took the information from the spreadsheet she emailed out earlier. For those who missed weigh-ins, I just filled in the most recent weights so that I could calculate pounds lost accurately with a formula. I didn't use hers because I wanted to fit it all on one page.

Tausha-Thanks for all your hard work on this challenge. It is very motivational and I love the support I receive.
Karen-Thanks for taking the time out to help Tausha with posting a spreadsheet on the thread.
Sandy-WOW, 8lbs lost! Looks like you're the Butterball Babies MVP this week. Congrats!
Laura-You're leading our team with weight loss! CONGRATS TEAM PURPLE MVP! :flowerforyou:0
