I got in just over 21 miles already today on my bike and I went to Curves. I have less than 18 miles on my bike to go. Surely I can get that in this weekend. Plus I have my 5k tomorrow morning. I am feeling good about this months challenge.
ReNae - I know what you mean about the size thing. I don't even know where to start looking anymore. And sizes, ugh there is no rhyme or reason on them either. I have two pairs of jeans exact same brand and style one is a 14 one is a 16W they both fit exactly the same. But I have a pair of khaki pants by the same company and the 18 fits but is snug. So frustrating. I take my daughter with me and just tell her I will try it all on and not even look at the sizes. LOL
Sarah- rest your foot this weekend hon. No need to worry about getting your miles in all at once we are only halfway through the month.
Meerkat- great loss this week.0 -
Checking in
Sorry I have been very busy this week. Did food log-in but thats it. This weekend I think I'm back on target. Had my meeting last night and lost 1.5 wooohooo. Taking a few minutes at work to check in. I'm still here. I need to work hard this weekend to get my miles going again. Well, it's almost time for TGIF ..... I'm out of here (work that is)

Argh! I am needing to still get in 31.5 miles on the bike and I pretty much have 2 days to do it! Why, oh why, did I slack off and not make it to the gym?!? I am leaving on Sunday to go to a training for Sun-Wed. However, when I come back on Wednesday - the gym closes for 3 weeks on Thursday. I suppose if I get back early enough on Wednesday and haven't completed them I could try and get there... it's open until 10 PM. I plan to go tomorrow... will probably bike, elliptical, bike, elliptical... and bike some more. May spend several hours there. I am soooooo amazed by all of you who get all your miles in so quickly! I do have to say though -- I did complete 1.25 miles jogging on the elliptical in under 19 minutes. I was still trying to keep my HR in zone 2 or 1 -- that makes it harder and slower... but I did get some in. I probably have walked my miles but I was really trying to keep it to jogging or running (my running, not real running but real for me!). The hotel does appear to have treadmills (2) and ellipticals (1) but no bike. SO - if I can get the biking done -- I know that I could work on finishing out the running part while I am away... <<sigh>> Big Goals!
Re: the whole size thing... can I just say A-freaking-MEN!! I am so frustrated with sizes... I am no where near the sizes you all are talking about but I have a pair of capris, size 26, which is exciting because they were bought in a regular store, yes plus size section but a regular store. They are too big now, loose, but saggy... but with the encouragement of a friend I chance the evil basement and find the jeans that I have kept referring to as my "goal jeans." They were actually sent to me by Lexie... she must have looked cute in them! That's for darn sure! They are the cutest jeans! I thought - wow! SO I have been working on those jeans and they are a 22. You'd think that they fit me better than the last time I tried them on, right?!? Nope, they don't... nothing has seemed to melt from my legs. I can't really keep pants up in many cases but for my fat thighs and calves. So, I stretch and try to pull the jeans on over my legs. Welp, it was a bit depressing... but yet today the capris are a struggle to keep up and my 3X top is falling off of me?!? And, the other day - I wore a pair of pants that number wise should have been much too much too big and I don't think anyone noticed. So -- yep -- the size thing confuses me... I am happy to keep getting new clothes, I just wish that I could get some smaller sizes.
Any advise or thoughts on slimming your legs?!? I know that several of you (eh-hem.. Staci... eh-hem) have talked about skinny legs. Nothing I do seems to help?!?
Have a wonderful weekend everyone... keep working on those miles and try that third event!!0 -

Jane
-- you just crack me up with with crackers and pate... because that is what life is like at mom's house too. Besides all the crap she buys me what I grew up with that I have to eschew... It's just nervewracking. The last two trips home to mom's have been for operations. So there's me in the waiting room, with mom's HS best friend Linda and Linda says to me, "How come Erik married you, I mean you're so fat." I swear to god. Pate? ****, pound cake, donuts, what was available at the luncheon counter that day... I was good, I just had some snack mix and a sandwich... I swear I know what you mean by it gets to be too much though. My love and hugs for you. Hope she fights the good fight eh? Cheers.
Greg
-- If you had ever visited Maine, you would know that Renae could pretty much strip naked and dance the macarena for half an hour on the back road without ever seeing anyone. Yeah, not kidding. And the thing is. It's so freaking still and quiet out there, that usually, if you listen, you could hear anything coming.
-- And I have an idea for your 'manly' workout that won't impinge Bowling. Oh.. now I know, it's so redneck. But if you can avoid chugging 14 beers It's a lot of walking up and back and up and back, don't sit down between frames, and then swing that massive ball around. And it can be fun Just something to think about, and if you can get friends together who like to do it, you can join a league and bowl every week
Renae
-- Please tell me you listen to see if anythings in the shrubbery before you start stripping right? And missy it ain't the mosquitos you gotta worry about, it's them Black Flies. And clothes... Oh I could rant for hours about clothes and the emotions... But lets just say. I put on hubbies 2x t shirt and walked in to say hi to him. It took him a minute to figure out that was his shirt I was wearing. then he said " what are you trying to say?" and I just stood there, He asked like 3 more times. I don't think he really got what I was saying. What I was really saying was. "Put down the mother effing cheesdoodles ***** and try some cardio or you'll be bigger than me very effing soon you fat lazy slobby *kitten* pig." That was my warning shot over the 'bow' so to speak. Either he listens, or he doesn't. *shrugs* Not much else I can do
Lexie
-- Lexie baby as I'm doing research to do a real triathalon, Yeah I wanna, hubby is the biggest prick about it too. Rolling eyes, sighs,... oh we're not going there... anyway, heres a website to help you with the swimming... http://ruthkazez.com/swimming.html
I actually learned stuff I"ve been applying like, NOT kicking. And 'shimmying my hips and flopping my knees" oh yeah it rocks... the breathing thing.. if I could get that down regularly that'd rock.. and wait till I tell you about the *kitten* at the pool today... He might have had a nice body, but he made more waves than ****ing Shamu soaking the first 3 rows at Seaworld (Jane it's an oceanpark and that's a KillerWhale reference). Son of a ***** was dousing me like I was swimming the Channel for godsake. While he was in the pool, my first 32 laps took me 32 minutes... When that *kitten* left, I finished the 2nd mile, which should have been slower in 28 minutes. ****!!! Ruined my timing.. I could have cleared 2 miles in under 60 minutes instead... OH NO 60:09... Son of a *****! Okay rant over. Seriously read the page. :)D
Bobbie
-- Bobbie ran? BOBBIE RAN??? Omg OMG OMG OMG OMG I would hug you so hard you'd pee yourself right now if I could, just so you know. Seriously... Very happy for you... *HUGS*HUGS*HUGS* And I love the new pic btw.
Staci
-- I lubs you. I hope you're feeling better. I'm sorry you were sick.. Can you please RIDE 17.35 MILES very soon so we can get team silver? Please okay love you, *mwah*
Okay about sizes... yeah the market of the world is screwed... for example where iv'e been buying my clothes a store called Catherine's which is a 'large ladies' store. I'm now down to a 2x/3x ... 2x if I wanna squeeeeze 3x to have a little room. I had to try the 2, y'all know how it is now.
So when I went to Walmart (oh the bane of all existance I know) ... I still can't wear 99% of their 'large girl' clothes. the stretchy t shirt tops for $5 that are 5x!! barely fit me and fit me all wrong. And I know you know what I mean..the pinch here, they're baggy here... bleah. WTH?
And of course then there's Lane Bryant, which is in the SAME Ownership as Catherines just a different 'line' if that makes sense. But none of their 26/28 clothes fit right. And they should, because technically that's what the equivalent 3x is at catherines. Actually a 3x at catherines is supposed to be a 24/26., so yeah that 2x skort that I was wearing is like a 22? Hello?? HAPPY *kitten*!!! But of course it's only because it's stretchy as hell
Which reminds me Becky darling.. I am going down like a hurricane up top as well, the bottom not so much. Just the same Stephanie, I was never a 'bottom' girl either. I was always all 'up top' I think as we get older, it sort of 'settles' in the lower parts and comes off there harder on some people. I know, it seems crazy, seems irrational. Some people it's coming off quicker than others. (Staci you evil minx)... But I think for us girls that whomped up quite a bit above that 325-350 lb mark even.... It seems to have eh... congealed in all the lower bits and is refusing to leave there last. So have faith ladies... It'll go.. It'll just be the last damn rat off the sinking ship
Which reminds me why I brought it up... Becky look for a Casual Male near you. I know mens store, duh, so what. No one's gonna know. Men's pants have STRING TIES in it seems all the damn waist bands of all the pants I've bought from them over the past 10 years. It's the only thing holding up some of my shorts when I work out... They make exercise clothes, some even with Nike or Reebok logos, I know, whoop de do. but if you like that thing then yeah Sure they'll be navy or black. But I doubt you'll complain Anyway go check it out, and with the string ties, no more baggy pants. XOXOXOXO
Okay so I've been swimming like a feeesh as dad would have said (thus my rant about the friggin ****hole in the pool lane today) I mean the water was only 4' deep today at the Ymca (I tried it out) I might join it's pretty nice, the new one, only 8 miles from home. so that's my complaint about the water, 4 feet. jeasus really? okay 4'6" but yeah. damn. and 3 lanes... oh tho it is nice you can 'walk out' through the kids section which means I don't have to climb the ladder which means I can literally burn all my power in the pool So today I did. 2 miles 60:09... Boom... I'm so happy I could squeal Okay I didn't I was actually pissed about the 9 seconds... but that's life... anyway... love to you all xoxoxoxoxox
Keep burning those calories !0 -
I've not done any running in quite a while and keep putting it off. I do sprints of 1min all the time at the gym as part of my circuit training but since I did my 5km way back in June, I've kinda stopped running any distances. I have no problem hoping on the treadmill, setting it to hill walk and doing 5k that way but something about running a distance just seems like a LOT of work and therefore I keep finding excuses not to do it. Tomorrow is my cardio day at the gym so I really really need to try and do it - not the full 5k but at least 1 - 2!!0
-
  I'm attempting to almost beat the evil machine today... I'm tackling.... THE BIKE!!
Seriously... anyone who cares to share some of their good exercise karma -- feel free to send it my way today! I am gonna hit the gym here shortly. I have sooooo much to do that should take the place of the gym so I am ready for my trip tomorrow, but I can't help and make that my priority. I absolutely REFUSE to not get this goal! So... I am going to go to the gym and bike, and bike, and bike! I may switch it up, do 5-6 miles on an upright, then use the recumbent, then do my "jogging" on the elliptical, and go back to the bike. I find that if I adjust the height on the Lifecycles Upright - I can adjust enough around on the seat to not get as sore/tired for my *kitten*, but I can't imagine doing more than 10-12 miles! And that takes me more than an hour to do... so when I see that people post their calorie burns and are using MFP's estimates - it cracks me up that 10-12 miles of biking is listed as a "leisure" pace. WTF?!? Though, Cyndi - after reading your post about 2 miles in 1 hour for swimming?!? All I can think is... well, I am slow but steady. I got the endurance thing down, but dang it, could I move a little faster?!? Not sure what to do on that end -- unless I ignore my HRM which is telling me again that I am not supposed to be in Zone 3. I was trying to follow, but when I got on the espresso bike, well - them are hills in them there mountains! My HR doesn't agree that it shouldn't go up as the bike goes up the hills! I was feelin' it in my legs yesterday... my friend says - if your legs burn, shouldn't that mean you are tighting or toning things up... but it doesn't - it just burns! LOL. I agreed! Darn her though and telling me to try those darned goal jeans on! ... cause that was just a bit heartbreaking if I am being completely honest.
And yeah Cyndi... I agree! It all seems to want to settle and sit in my lower half. I wasn't so much top heavy as middle and lower heavy. My legs, thighs, hips and butt have always been big. But my stomach was also... as I release - it all seems to be coming from my neck and shoulders -- so now Steph I do seem to be pear shaped. What a pain! And, if I really look at myself... I see that things have gotten looser, i.e. all the fat seems to not be as "tight" and has disconnected from my body and is falling down towards the ground with the "loose skin" holding it. This is horrible, as since that's happened - it's perhaps a little more around my knees instead of up around my thighs and I seem to feel it a little in my knees. I know, I know Cyndi - you told me about the dang binders and compression clothing. BUT I can't imagine that those actually will fit and then doesn't it just shoot it all out above or below the piece of clothing? UGH!! The things that become difficult... And, I may be getting a second bat wing per arm. Never realized how the lower part of my arm could look a little like what my upper arm quickly looked like. Loose hanging skin is much harder to cover up on the bottom part of your arm! Especially when there's so much on the upper arm that you can't fit it all in the smaller shirt size that you really should be wearing! I would say thank goodness it's winter and the long sleeves can come out but... well my arms were always a part of the reason that I couldn't wear smaller tops. Now, they really are! I love the look of a cap sleeve - on other people! :blushing:  Still know that I am going in the right direction though and still feel better. I'm not goin' back, but god if I could give the 20 year old me a talking to! The things I'd say!
OK... I've gotta get movin'... got head to the gym. It is 10 AM here but the gym is open to 9 PM this evening... I'm thinkin' that if I go and really can't do much this morning, I could go again this afternoon or evening. I am ... I shouldn't say this publicly but it does then motivate me to actually do it... I am aiming for 16 mike miles today! That's right... SIXTEEN MOTHER-F***ING MILES ON THE BIKE.. for those of you who say "ah, piece of cake" I say go eat that cake! That's crazy! That's pretty near impossible from my point of view. My *kitten* is already hating me just thinkin' it! And for those of you who get in 20, 24, 28, or 30+ miles in a day... WTF?!? You must be part machine and buns of steel... because good lord - I can't even imagine the happy dance I'd do (probably a week later b/c I couldn't move and would have to call a cab to take me home, but oh the happy dance I would do!)
Later Chics and our Rooster... MAKE it a great one! And, as ReNae would say -- KEEP IT SKINNY...0 -

Becky, I am so glad that no one is home with me because I'm sitting here cackling at this!! You are too funny! I won't say piece of cake, because I don't need any damn cake, but I will say it's not impossible, and YES your *kitten* will yell at your for days to come. When I do those long distances on the bikes at the gym, I have to break it up into 45 minute increments then do weights, then bike, then walk, then bike. I can't do the 2 hours straight...longest I've gone is an hour, and I feel like my crack is splitting :sick:0 -
@Becky: that is just too funny! Good for you pushing the envelope to go so far on your bike. I haven't been on a bike in years and I doubt I could go even one mile, so my hat is off to you fine lady! I hope you have some fun (in between pulsating butt pain).
@Cynthia: you make me laugh! Actually, bowling is something that I'm thinking about. It's also something we can do together as a family, so double bonus! As for Maine, I've actually been to Maine 3 or 4 times and always to the Wells Beach area. If you know the area then you know it is a tourist haven and stripping naked would NOT be a great idea. Unless, of course, you enjoy spending time in jail.0 -
Jail time does not equal good time; however, streaking could be a fun time...lol Bowling is one of our favorite family things...it's too bad they have the BEST cheese fries at the bowling alley :grumble:
Well, I did it again, 3 curves and 1.5 straights. I had to break it up though because my legs were sore from fighting with the dogs this morning. They like to drag like crazy animals on the leash. Anyway, I think I could get used to this :bigsmile:0 -
Good afternoon! I just had to report in that I ran my first real 5k in 32.45. Woo freakin hooo!! I crossed the finish line just as the walkers were taking off and thought hmmmm! So, yes I turned right around and walked it too. Came home for a quick lunch and yes Bynthia I will head out in my bike. If the weather holds up I should be back in a couple of hours with the last of my bike miles.0

Staci you are amazing!!0

You know what I JUST realized??? I have surpassed the total number of miles that I biked/walked/swam last month in just biking alone this month!!! That is so incredible to me!
Have you ever just had moments where you just become so darn pleased with yourself???:bigsmile:0 -
Cynthia- I lub you too and only for you would I get my *kitten* on the bike and ride 17.5 miles after running a 5k then walking the same 5k. When I started out I was like okay I can do this. Then within 3 miles my chain came off and I thought Seroulsy??? But I put it back on and kept going. At about 6 miles it started to get really windy but I was still okay. At 9 miles I was thinking "For Icey (that's how I think of you) I can keep going she makes me laugh with every post. By 12 miles I was thinking "**** laughing I hate her, I am ffreezing, its windy, I am just calling home to have hubby get me." It was 3 more miles to the next trail entrance where I could stop. When I got there I started thinking, Its two and a half more frickin miles I can do that. What would Icey say if I came this close and didn't make it. She would probably say something that would have lots of little asterisks and tell me to get my fat *kitten* out there and finish. So I did. Tomorrow I am doing nothing!!!!!0

Damn that Icey!! What the *kitten* does she know anyway?!? Welp, I'll tell you what she knows... how to get all of us moving and rockin' and goin'. Seriously though -- Stac -- you absolutely are amazing! You are the Athletic Achiever today! Woot! Woot! I loved this post and seeing all you did today... AWESOME!!
Oh, and Cyndi -- well, since you DO have the big ol' 96 pounds released... well, I figure I will follow that lead! Thanks for always motivating each of us... sometimes in ways we don't want, but it gets my fat *kitten* movin'!! I lub you alot!!0 -
I did it... I attempted that crazy task that so many of you have done so regularly. I am absolutely satisfied in the knowledge that I was right and you all are crazy, crazy people! What you ask?!? I did 20 miles on the bike. All in a row, because quite honestly, I don't think I would have gotten back on if I hadn't stayed on... So, 20 miles later I was never so happy to walk out of the gym (jello-y legs and all!).0
-
Yay Beckyfor joining the crazies!! I was going to answer your question about legs (Was it on this thread or the other one?) Anyway, I think the best thingI have been doing for my legs is lunges and squats for toning.0
-
Jump rope is hard! I haven't done this since I was a kid, and I'm not very good at it. Only got 10 minutes in before it started raining, but I'm not sure how much more I could have done at once anyway. If it's not raining when the Bears game is over I'll head back out to try and get another 10 minutes0
-
Woop Woop! I said I was aiming for an ITU Long and today I finished that today and am almost done half ironman, just some biking that I know will be done once I've done spin on Tuesday. Really pleased with myself! Did some running today, broke it up but managed 2.3 miles which I'm happy with as I haven't done any distances in a while, I've just been doing sprints. Also got in some time on the spin bike for another 4 miles. I felt great afterwards and want to try to remember how great I felt once I was done this workout today as I was really nervous about my old school cardio day. Thanks Becky, if it wasn't for this challenge I would have shied away from distance running for even longer. I'm already thinking of doing some tomorrow with my circuit training!! :bigsmile:0

Yes. And you rock, so you totally deserve to feel pleased with yourself!
Stephanie, that's brilliant - well done for pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone.
Everyone's doing fabulously!0 -
Jane, do you realize that between the two of us, we have burned over 15000 calories since last Monday??? That is fan-freaking-tastic!!!0
-
Okay I know I said I wasn't going to do anything today but I added 3.5 miles running.0

I know! We totally rock! :-)0 -

I'm finding it hard to take rest days too. It's getting addictive.0 -
>> Staci – Congrats on that 5k – super time!! You are in shape girl! You’re also a biking machine – way to go Silver medalist!!
>> Cyndi – Black Flies are the Maine State Bird – I can’t disrespect them. Funny you should mention bowling. I took my 11yr old and a few of her friends on Saturday night. It was a lot of fun but if you don’t bowl often it can be awkward and not very easy (let’s just say my score was less then the # of lbs I have lost)
>> Greg – Cyndi is right. There is a lot of nothing out here where I bike and walk – I could pretty get my miles in naked an no one would even see me.
>> Steph – I know what you mean about putting off running after a 5k. I did the same thing for 2 months before doing my second one (without any practice). I like what you said about remembering how you feel after a powerful workout. Just like remembering how good something tasted and wanting to eat it again, we are training our brains to crave exercise. The feeling after a good workout is so satisfying.
>> Becky – Amazing that you biked 20 miles! I’m very proud of you. This challenge has been great for so many of us. Glad you are back in full force. Don’t worry about what ISN’T fitting you YET. Feel proud about all the stuff that is too big for you now.
>> Bobbie – You should be darned pleased with yourself. You’ve really turned it on this month!! Nice job!! I loved your comment about your crack splitting on the bike. My seat didn’t bother be 60lbs ago – no I have less cushion and was really feeling it last week.
>> Andilynn82 – amen on the jumping rope – it’s hard. I might give it another try this week.
>>Jane - I didn't get much in for exercise over the weekend and it was killing me. But my body does feel better today and I think it may have helped to relax a bit (an keep my calories low) for a couple of days as I released a 2 more lbs over the weekend! Sometimes we just have to listen to our bodies.
PREDICTIONS: We are going to be celebrating TWO 100lb Releases SOOON - Becky and Cynthia are both so close!!!! Keep it going ladies – we are all rooting for you!!!0 -
After running yesterday, it was hard going today. Did 1km on the elliptical and 1km of interval running. Me ole legs wouldn't take anymore! Plus my walking to and from work.0
-
Well, I need to thank you all for your encouragement and participation in this challenge. When I started out, I thought maybe I could complete the Full Iron Man Triathalon by the end of the month if I worked hard. Well, here it is the 19th of the month and I am starting on round 2. My personal goal is to complete a second one by the end of the month. I would never have believed that I could have completed one when I started this journey. You are all amazing. Now I have to keep going and I hope to add more weight training to my routine. Even though the Tri-Ceratops did not medal, we gave it a roaring good try and we are all winners just because we have upped out exercise level. All you who have completed 5K walks/runs or more are my heroes. I hope to get there soon. Carla0

PREDICTIONS: We are going to be celebrating TWO 100lb Releases SOOON - Becky and Cynthia are both so close!!!! Keep it going ladies – we are all rooting for you!!!
I can't wait to see this. It's the best, best feeling (and one I'm eager to get back to myself!). Go Becky and Cynthia!
Renae, I have to have a rest day tomorrow, as there's just no time to do more than a quick walk round campus. So I'll hit the gym some time today, but have my feet up tomorrow. (And Bobbie, don't you see that as an invitation to cut my jabba lead down! :-D )
carhicks - isn't it incredible what we can achieve? I didn't think I'd manage the full - I was going to go for the half. I think one of the things that's been great about this challenge for me is that seeing it written down, you realise just how much you can and do do, and that spurs you on to achieve more.
Stephanie - to be honest, that sounds like a fair bit of movement to me. Well done!
For me, I'm just plodding on adding a few miles most days. Need to get back into the pool, but it's such a schlepp, getting the timetable coordinated with my schedule.0
