22 miles on my bike and I'm done for today. My legs are shaking. My hands too from griping the handles.
CONGRATS TO THE TEAMS! y'all are awesome0 -
Great job Honey Badgers! I did 8 more miles this morning and am going for another ride later after hubby goes to work. I am hoping for another 15 at least this afternoon. Tomorrow I am going up to my sisters so I should get in some more swimming and running. Who knows I might end up doing a half ironman afterall.0
-
Well, I did go out and get some more miles in...22.2 more that is. Woohoooo! Tomorrow I am going to see if I can swim another mile or so. Wish me luck.0

Hello All!!
Please remember... this challenge was about ENDURANCE! So, I hope to see that everyone continues on with our challenge and works towards their Team Goals and Individual Goals! Remember, to encourage and support our group members as we push ourselves to exceed the limits that we had placed upon ourselves for sooooo long!
My update -- 8 miles on the bike tonight in 48 minutes. That's fantastic for me! I am EX-CITED!! Tomorrow, I would do the newly becoming tradition of a Sprint Triathalon... BUT, my HRM keeps "yelling" at me because it's said my goal is/has been to have a recovery week. It appears that means NOT going into Zone 3. Which, is hard for me. When I exercise/work out - I want to go balls to the wall but this has forced me to slow down and really focus on watching my breathing and heart rate. Anyway - that really doesn't afford me the opportunity to do what I would have planned. BUT I am gonna do some miles on the bike and light jogging...
Hope everyone is doing fan-tastically! he,he, he. :flowerforyou:0 -
Let's see - Thursday I worked with my new personal trainer, so no walking/biking/swimming.
Yesterday, 4.10 miles on the elliptical in 50 minutes and 8 miles on the bike in 30 minutes Very happy about both!0 -
Oh, I'm still going. Did another 5 miles on the bike yesterday and another mile walking. I'm finally gonna start swimming tomorrow. I had dyed my hair last weekend and didn't want to jump right in the pool. I really can't wait to get back in the water, though!0

WTF did I do to my ankle and heel?! This is killing me, I work on my feet for 8 hours and by the time I get home my foot is ballooned and I can barely walk! Some days I don't have as much pain and can make it to the gym but yesterday was not one of those days. My foot hurt so bad that I barely moved after work and I had the hubs wrap my foot. I am going to wrap it again for work today and hope that it helps, again I will be walking / standing for 8 hours so I am hoping a brace will help it...0

Well, I did my first swimming today! And man, was I tired!!!!! I was only able to do 10 laps, but I was pretty happy with that. My boys came swimming with me, so I had to keep an eye on them while I did my laps. I will do it again tomorrow, then during the work week maybe I can get a little bit more in because I don't have to worry about them or stop and play with them. I think the hardest thing for me is getting my breathing under control. I know that I am not suppose to come up for air with every stroke, but I have to! I have to practice my breathing so I can be more calm and I think I won't be as tired that way too.
Have a great Saturday everyone!
Sara - I hope your ankle feels better soon!!!0 -
Just back from gym. Finished my last bike ride and have completed the full ironman. I feel quite good! :-D0

Sara that sounds horrible. Have you put it down badly? Caught it on something? You poor thing, I hope it's ok tomorrow. If not, it might be time for a visit to the doc?0 -

Really?!? WOWZERS!!! That's pretty amazing... it would take me about double that for the elliptical and at least 1.5 times that for the bike... I was thinking this morning - wow, I am getting faster! I guess I am gonna use you for inspiration the next time I want a quick workout... CONGRATS - You have a lot to be proud of... (and, here's hoping that you see big releases in the near future, with all the working out you've posted, they have to come, right!?).0 -

Sara... If it's balooning up -- I am just a little concerned considering your current adjusting in the BP meds and stuff... I don't want to alarm you - because I am not a medical background person, I just work in a hospital system - but I would encourage you NOT to overlook it! Maybe give your doc's nurse a call -- at least leave a message so that they call you back on Monday! Just don't slough it off... because it may be related. Also - how has your sodium intake been and your water? These could relate back to it too. Please keep an eye on it and let us know... keeping yo in my prayers.0 -
Good evening lovlies! I am tired. Today I swam 1.35 miles then rode "around the block" with my sister at her new house and added 2 miles. Then we went on a short hike of .8 miles. it was a great day in the sun but I am tired.0

Update on my personal quest to reach the Ironman Level Triathalon...
I went to the gym today. It's been kinda a rough week :ohwell: - and on top of that, my HRM has been "yelling" at me that I have YET to do a recovery week. I think that means that I have to stay out of Zone 3. :grumble: So, while I had thought that my Saturday routine will just regularly include a Gym Sprint Triathalon, I can't really do that with trying to stay in Zones 1 and 2, right?!? Welp, it looks like maybe I could have... would have taken FOREVER but I could have.
So, I went and rode some bike and jogged lightly (very much so, remember, had to please the HRM). I also worked on the machines... can't believe how much better I am feeling by adding the strength training component. Anyway - I hate :explode: the bike (we all know this, I complain about it all the time) so I got on and did a 1 mile warm-up, then my friend and I did the machines. I went back and did 5 miles on the bike... thought, come on Beck (cause as Stac would say, that's what I call myself) you can do this! Get in at least 4 miles today... that's only 3 right now. So, I did 6...
Then, even though I thought I would just head home, I wanted to try the elliptical. I am doing my run/walk miles on that but I have only been counting the miles that I am "jogging" or "running" on there and I thought it would send my HR too high. I mean I go into Zone 3 at 146 BPM. :ohwell: So I got on and started... and surprisingly I didn't go overboard with my HR. I watched closely so that any time it raised to 140, I would either slow down some, lower the level or the resistance... and I was able to really "control" where my HR was. I am sooooo excited :noway: by this because what it is really showing me is that improvement in my cardiovascular health. And that, IS something to be proud of. I set it for 30 minutes, because I figured I wouldn't have as much control. So, I made it 2.2 miles which is good, in and of itself.
But... in that last 10 minutes or so, I kept thinking... I want to be below 50 miles to go on the bike. Lexie does it, Bobbie does it, Staci did it... I have to give it another go on the bike. So, I get off and some lady is all happy saying that she's gonna take the fan then... for what? to lay on the bench... :noway: Umm, no I say, I'm not done yet, but I am happy to share it! :flowerforyou: I crawl on the bike, after adjusting the fan so this lady can "cool down" (rolling eyes, :grumble: , whatever!), and I start. I think - maybe I am aiming too high... let's set the picture for the 5K route, if I just do another 5K on the bike than I will be good, I mean, I "did" just get back on the bike. So I start pedalling, and I pedal and pedal and pedal. And then I remember the text I sent to Lex not so long ago that told her to keep pedalling so I do, I pedal right on past the 5K mark... and I don't like when I don't complete something  so after much self-talk I decide I am gonna do it, I am gonna get another 5K in. I actually had lots of talks with myself in between, maybe 8K would be good enough, etc. BUT I get to the 3.5 miles mark and realize that I have another 1.7 miles to go and I think, motivation, motivation... so I started to do a tenth of a mile for each of you... thought about all the wonderful things that each of you have added to my life and I dedicate one tenth of a mile to each of you... and then, I think... wait, what about me?! :blushing: I need to do better about honoring ME - so I start talking to myself, my "Beck" and acknowledge the steps, growth, changes that I have made while honoring some of the things that will always stay with me. And, I did it. I went past the 2nd 5K lap marker and finished up at 12.25 for ease of remembering. I walked out feeling a bit tired, knees a little achy but good, no GREAT!
My pants are falling off of me, so I have to probably retire another pair of pants which I don't like :grumble: because they are the best workout capri's! But... the last time I wore them, they kinda dropped on the right half while I was "running" my fastest, full-out run on the elliptical. :blushing: :blushing: :blushing: I honestly thought it was just that I had on underwear that was a little big and that the underwear had dropped... no, I feel the right side of me and find that my waistband of the pants is literally at that crease where my leg joins my pelvis... :blushing: :blushing: :blushing: THANK GOODNESS that I wear my old 6X t-shirts to work out in and they are a tent on me now, :noway: because I am pretty positive no one noticed. :blushing: Made me paranoid today b/c I thought they'd fall off again, and I just don't have time for that... I'm too busy to worry about pants falling off! I will probably do some darts in the waistband, let's be honest, I don't want to buy new pants... and, they didn't have anymore of these at the store b/c it's out of season now. Am ready to buy the "pant" version and cut, hem, sew them into capris, except that they are $20/piece for the pants. A dart in each side of the waist will be much cheaper and they are just for working out anyway!  :laugh:0 -

what are you planning once you're done? Want to see how many of these bad boys we can finish in a month?
Still can't quite believe i did it! :-)0 -
Well I must admit, I am finding this challenge, challenging. I realised how much I have been missing circuit training 3 - 4 days a week. It means I can get smidgens of miles done but no big goes. I must say that I am so proud of you all and inspired by you. I will get it done but its gonna be slow!0
-
Becky: You are AMAZING!!! I love the POSITIVE self talk...it's great to see what we can do when we stop talking down to ourselves!
Jane: I'm all for seeing how far we can go! No need to stop now, especially since we're just at Day 11. BTW: I'm super proud of your for finishing the whole thing already. This week is gonna be hectic for me, but I'm gonna try to get it done by the end of next weekend :noway:
Steph: You still have plenty of time. You did the darn thing for your teammates; the rest is for you! Make it happen at a pace you can live with, but MAKE IT HAPPEN!!0 -

This really made me smile. It's great that your pants are falling down! An embarrassing, but brilliant victory! Well done. :-)
Bobbie, thank you so much - that made me feel really good. :-) There's no way I'll maintain this pace, but I can't quite believe I managed to do it once! I think I'll try see if I can do the whole thing one more time before the end of the month....0 -

Slow and steady IS what wins the race Steph... The fact is that this challenge WAS about slow and steady. I am so surprised by the fast, quick sprint that so many of us have had. However, the lesson that I hoped we each would learn IS about endurance and perserverance. There is no shame or failure in going slow... because our weight release journeys are that slow, steady, endurance and perserverance types of road. It absolutely IS a change in what you may typically do -- but that is also a great lesson -- because we need to be prepared to change up our routine and get out of our comfort zone. That's what will keep us successful and that is what will keep us on a different path then the comfort of what got us to where we are today! I am glad to hear that you are finding the challenge... challenging. That is after all, why we do it, right?!? AND - it is challenging for me too! I find myself having to talk to myself about that this isn't about "winning" because so much of the time that is what I find myself thinking I need to do. I need to be the best, the first, etc. Instead it is about continuing, no matter how slow the pace, to get through it and to the end. To complete it, to finish it and to celebrate myself and how far I've come! I don't know that I realized just how much I am learning and gaining from this challenge, until I started to respond to your post. So thank you for that! Thank you so much... funny how our lessons come in the most unexpected of places.0 -
Becky, you could have been giving the State of the Union Address for weight loss right there...very motivating!
I've finally started the swimming leg, and I only have 7 more miles on the walking. While I can see the finish line getting ever closer, I'm thinking about how much farther I can still go! I mean, there is still over a half of a month left for all of us to reach, or extend beyond, our goals!!!0 -
3 miles in 40 mins on the elliptical and 3.25 on the bike in 15 today. Not too shabby0
-
Oh lord. I might have just posted twice on the other thread. I thought I was here. I think that the sun has fried my brain. I sunbirned the crap out of my face today while kayaking. I did get in 6.4 miles on my bike and just a little more on my running. It was just too hot to run today. My right knee is hurting today but I can't pinpoint what I might have done to hurt it. I think tomorrow I will just do my curves workout and then see if rest helps it. I gotta run do some laundry tonight. Have a great one.0

Hello everyone! I didn't get a chance to go the gym yesterday, so I have my bag packed and ready to go! I am going to do 30 minutes on the treadmill (man, I haven't been on there in a long time) then hit the pool for a good 24 laps! That way I can finish up my first mile. I am going to try and do some running, which should be interesting. In June and July I was starting to run a lot and had gotten up to running 2 miles non stop at a pretty good pace (4.8), but it has been a while since I ran, so I am curious to see what I can do today.
Hope you all have a great day, and keep up the great work!0 -
Coming down with a bug, so likely going to be not gyming today. I'll go walk the dogs for a bit though, so will get a few miles in.0

Becky – You are starting to like that bike aren’t you? Holy close to 100lbs released for you!! I loved your motivating gym story and the way you put some miles on the machines for each of us. I have to admit that I think of this group often while I’m out walking. It’s amazing what this virtual world is giving to each of us. You are all helping me move forward when I think about giving up. Thanks!
Sara – I hope your feet are feeling better soon. Keep us posted and rest up.
Lexie – Nice job swimming. I’ve never done any distance swimming, but I’m contemplating going to a gym down the road from my office this winter. They have a pool there. It sounds so therapeutic.
Meerkat - feel better soon!
Steph – I agree with how challenging this triathlon is on the personal level. I really love to bike, but it takes more of a commitment than running on my treadmill at 5am. I keep saying I’m going to jump rope but I’ve yet to pick that thing up. But it’s a new week and I am going to put a plan together today to do a little of both before next Monday. Setting goals will get us there. Whatcha gonna do this week?
This is the week I need to kick it into gear. I feel like I’ve been coasting for the last few weeks. Just walking/jogging but nothing ‘extra’. I started getting my bootie moving on Saturday with a 5K race. I knocked 4 minutes off my time which made me happy. If any of you remember – I couldn’t run the distance between 2 telephone poles in March. I still don’t run the entire race, but I finish and it sure beats standing around waiting for my daughter to finish. OK – time to go write down this weeks goals – later skinny gators.0 -
I need to get some running/walking in this week. I was supposed to today but just felt so unmotivated to run!0

So, yeah, I had another fling with that darn bike again:noway: . I needed some miles for another challenge, and, well, the bike gives me the biggest bang for my buck (or butt). Now, I just wish that work wouldn't interfere with my workout time . I had all the plans to get some miles in on all three legs, and then I "remembered" (meaning I opened my agenda:blushing: ) that I had mentor training after school was out. Thought I'd leave the building early and get to they gym for half my workout and then go back after the training, only to find out, I had left my workout clothes at home :grumble: So, I ran out of time, and no gym time for me tomorrow either. PLUS another day of this training on Wednesday after school. I'm really going to need them to keep this mess on school time, not Bobbie time :ohwell:0
-
Bobbie - if you figure out how to keep it on "bobbie time" let me know! Even though you are out of the classroom, I am sure you just as busy! Are you coaching? I am coming back to WS this summer, and I would love to get a job coaching instead of being in the classroom. But, I know it will probably have to wait. Anyways, enough about me...you will get to the gym, becuase you are super dedicated and will find a way!
Renae - again, great job on the 5K! I still haven't done one yet, and I keep saying I will. I think that I am just worried about being embarrassed or not doing good. I know, stop the pity party. I have a friend (super skinny and in shape) that offered to run with me in one, maybe I will take her up on that offer!
Meerkat - I hope you feel better soon!!!
So I ended up staying at school later yesterday than I had planned, so I didn't make it to the gym afterschool :grumble: But, I came home, ate a super healthy dinner, did homework with my 8 year-old, spent some time with the hubs....then...went back to the gym! I got in 30 minutes on the treadmill, which felt great! I didn't run because my food didn't completely settle, and I didn't want to push it too hard, so I walked. I usually would walk around 3.8, and that felt as fast as my legs would take me. But, I pushed it up to 4.1 and was able to walk that with an incline of 4% and as high as 8.5! It felt great! Then, I took my boys swimming. I didn't get to do as much as I wanted, but I felt pretty good because I was able to do the 8 laps without stopping! I was going to go back after playing with my boys and do some more, but it was getting late. But, I am feeling better about the swimming. I still need to get my breathing right on the freestyle (I think that is the name). I know that you are suppose to breathe every 2 strokes (with the right arm), but I get nervous and can't slow down my breathing. Then because I am turning so much, I get more tired. Any suggestions? I could probably do freestyle for longer if my breathing was under control, but right now, I can only back it 3/4 of a lap before I am dead tired!
Hope you all have a Terrific Tuesday! And where is everyone? It is only the 13th! We can't dissappear! Come back!!!0 -

You mean teachers don't work 6 hour days and have four months of holidays? My, you do surprise me.... ;-D
Seriously, it's hard, isn't it? Very hard to prioritise *you* when you work in an environment that doesn't really prioritise you....
On a related note, I appear to have a permanent sore spot - like a pressure bruise - on my tail bone from all this blinking biking. I'm hoping it will eventually stop! Also the biking seems to be making my knees achey - anyone else experiencing that? I've never really done the biking thing before this challenge, so I seem to be discovering new bits of my body to hurt in....
3 miles on the elliptical this morning - managed to get my time down a bit, which was cool, and turned my resistance up one notch. Nice to feel all this work is paying off. I also did a half hour on the bike. I've been having the same problem Stephanie was referring to, of this challenge interfering with strength training a bit, so I made sure today I had the time and energy left to get onto weights.
Thanks for the kind thoughts on my health. I'm feeling ok today - still a little tired, but not icky like yesterday. I think I've managed not to properly 'get' my daughter's bug. My immunity must be up, for a change! :-)0 -
Lexie: It's not exactly coaching, per se...my title is Learning Team Facilitator, meaning I conduct all the PLCs or Learning Teams in the building. I also find resources, counsel teachers, and develop staff development as needed. I have some time to play on the computer, but my mind is still processing 100 miles an hour. So, are you coming back to WS "for good"? I know at the beginning of the year, they were still looking for all kinds of coaches because the county got a bunch of grants that include necessary coaches, but I don't know what the need will be for next year. I'm in a middle school this year, and while I don't appreciate the start time, the end time is lovely: 2:42.
Jane: Really, I only work 4 hours and get paid for 10, but plus I get paid holidays, summers, and every other Monday  Oh, did I mention absolutely FREE healthcare for me and my children plus a district car to drive to and from work. It never ceases to amaze me when this nonsense is said in political debates and/or dinner table convos. Even my uncle spits out this ****, and I'm like "HELLOOOOO, am I not a teacher?" Then he says "Oh, but not you, I know how hard you work." Really????? Ok, enough ranting on the triathlon thread.
On a more physical note, I just have to say how much all of these challenges have me craving workout time. I mean, really craving it with withdrawals and all. Like right now, I'm sitting here thinking how I can possibly fit in some kind of physical activity when I know I'm going to be busy all day and all evening. I'm supposed to be cleaning the yard and deck with the bf this evening, which I know yard work is exercise, but it doesn't feel the same for me, except for maybe mowing. Anyway, I may go out to the track during lunch this afternoon and walk a mile or something. Now, if someone could put a forcefield around Panera so that I couldn't get in, I would probably NEVER be over calories and/or sodium, like I'm probably going to be today.0
