Weight lost last week: 0.4 lb
1. Overall how do you feel about your progress last week? Exercise I think I did really well... Eating is still really up and down.
2. How did you do with the fitness challenge (doubling your walk)? Awesome I think! Missed two days of doubling up, but made 4, so not bad!
3. What is your biggest fitness/health regret of last week? What are you going to do this week to make sure it doesn't happen again? I fell behind on my 30 DS schedule due to multiple factors. I am not sure I can change any of what happened, so I will just hope this week goes smoother with no crisis's at work or friends being hospitalized!!
4. What was your biggest fitness/health accomplishment of last week? Getting the majority of my extra walking in. There were days that it was tempting to sit back and pretend I forgot, but my little head voice wouldn't let me! Felt great afterwards though.
5. What was a non-fitness/health related high of last week? (Just something awesome that happened). Got the entire back yard cleaned up and "resurfaced" from the damage the dogs and kids had done, as well as getting a large section of the rock work around the base of the house done. We are hoping to make it all the way around the house before it starts snowing.
6. What is your favorite movie? Boondock Saints... mmmmm yummy yummy Irish boys...
Week of 9/18 Fitness Challenge: Exercise with a friend sometime this week. It can be a lot more fun and who knows, maybe you'll continue working out together!
Week of 9/18 Discussion Topic: Do you like to cook? If yes, have you always enjoyed cooking or is it a newly developed interest? What is your favorite recipe? I have never been super big on cooking, and typically view it only as a necessary evil. I have been experimenting lately and finding healthier meals to serve for myself and the family, but that doesn't mean I have to like it LOL.0 -
Whew! That was tough! Had to kick Monday's $%^ or it was gonna kick mine. Rode some trail on my mountain bike, then since I was already gross and sweaty, knocked out another JM 30DS! Woot woot! L1-D7 = DONE!!!
Fabulous job!!0 -
I'm in the process of getting a designated "workout area" in my basement that will eventually be a workout room (once the basement is finished) -- but for now I'm trying to get it functional because if I have my own area that is always "ready" for me -- I think I'll be more likely to do it & there will be less distractions if I'm down in my own space.
I bet that will be awesome once it becomes a reality... Right now I switch back and forth between the living room and my son's room depending on what is going on at the time LOL, at least for my indoor stuff.0 -
Silversong24 - We actually do bike to dinner sometimes on date night! We have access to a great urban paved trail that runs almost all the way through town, north to south here. We start at the south side and ride to dinner on the north side about 6-7 miles away. My boyfriend has it pretty easy with his body type too. But I've convinced him it's only gonna get harder to stay in shape. And I think I'm probably already stronger than he is!
I'm doing pretty well. Really kicked last week's $#% !!! The weekend, however, was a different story. :ohwell: We had a big party at the lake over the weekend. Don't think I destroyed all of my progress last week, but sure didn't help it!
That sounds awesome. I am in the process of getting my husband to do more stuff with me, both health related and not... We have really let "us time" slide with the kids, work, and my school stuff. Back to basics for us!! A lake party sounds kick-*kitten* and totally worth blowing a day LOL0 -

Last Week's Weight: 179
This Week's Weight: 180
Weight lost last week: +1
1. Overall how do you feel about your progress last week? - Obviously, with the traveling, lack of working out, and eating and drinking more I'm not surprised that the weight went up instead of down. I was very discouraged when I first weighed myself but when I looked back at what I did last week, realistically, there is no way that I could have lost weight. And, when I realize that I wasn't "working" at it last week, I don't feel as discouraged and I'm excited to see some progress on the scale this week.
2. How did you do with the fitness challenge (doubling your walk)? - Again, I wasn't able to do this last week so I started this yesterday. I normally walk my dog for about a mile in the evenings. Yesterday, I upped it to 2 miles and I got into work early today so that I'll have even more daylight to spend outside walking with her tonight.
3. What is your biggest fitness/health regret of last week? What are you going to do this week to make sure it doesn't happen again? - Gaining weight. No one likes to see the scale go up instead of down -- I realized that traveling doesn't give me a free pass when it comes to weight loss -- if I don't put in the work, the weight isn't going to come off. Plain & simple.
4. What was your biggest fitness/health accomplishment of last week? - I don't feel that I accomplished much last week but I have established a new scheduled and have given myself a challenge: This morning I marked off Day 2 of L1 of 30DS. I talked to my boyfriend about my goal & he has vowed to kick me out of bed in the morning if I hit the snooze button. Normally, I would take my dog, Rosie, for a short walk in the morning before work, then a longer one after work -- this stemmed from living in an apartment and not having a backyard. I've decided to skip the short morning walk & substitute 30DS instead. I got to work almost an hour earlier than normal today and will be able to leave in plenty of time to get Rosie out for at least an hour. I'm increasing my exercise 2x because I'm adding a workout video and giving myself double the time for walks in the evening. I made myself a calendar to mark off each day & I've taken some before pictures to see if this 30DS holds up to the hype. Now, if I can keep the food under control -- I should be on track to lose some weight!
5. What was a non-fitness/health related high of last week? (Just something awesome that happened) - A year's worth of planning and work into a conference allowed it to go off without a hitch & there is such a sense of relief getting it over with.
6. What is your favorite movie? - Oooh, there's so many. Currently, I would have to say Shooter. I could watch Mark Wahlberg all day long...

Week of 9/18 Discussion Topic: Do you like to cook? If yes, have you always enjoyed cooking or is it a newly developed interest? What is your favorite recipe? - Not as much as I like to bake, which is part of how I gained all the weight in the first place. I have started learning to substitute whole grains, applesauce, olive oil, etc into recipes to make them healthier, while still being able to bake & feel like I'm indulging in a treat. My favorite new recipe right now is my Honey Whole Wheat bread.0 -

Last Week's Weight: 140 lb
This Week's Weight: 139 lb
Weight lost last week: -1 lb
1. Overall how do you feel about your progress last week? Last week during the work week I was really on track. I had everything under control and had an extra boost when the scale moved a bit. However, last weekend was tough. Had a party and kind of got off track. However, didn't get nearly as off track as I used to so at least I'm getting better.
2. How did you do with the fitness challenge (doubling your walk)? Weather here sucked for walking outside. :grumble: The days I did get to walk outside I doubled my walk time/distance but didn't get everyday in.
3. What is your biggest fitness/health regret of last week? What are you going to do this week to make sure it doesn't happen again? The off-track weekend. This week will be a good test because it's another big college football game weekend.
4. What was your biggest fitness/health accomplishment of last week? Running the longer distance runs with me half-marathon training group and not walking the big hill at all last week. :drinker:
5. What was a non-fitness/health related high of last week? (Just something awesome that happened) Got to sleep in on Friday.
6. What is your favorite movie? Hmmm, that's a toughie. Probably Avatar and Up right now.
I've never really liked to cook. I live by myself and just use food to get me to my next adventure. I always just grilled everything; that worked fine. But now that I'm trying to eat better I'm trying to venture out on some new recipies. Haven't done much with that yet but this winter will be interesting for me in the kitchen.
Keep up the good work everyone!0 -

-
okay so I'm still catching up... these are pre-Week 4 comments :-)
@Allison – I LOVE the panoramic moon roof! Sounds awesome!
@silversong – I love ppuuppies. I def. would have ended up with one too :-P
@coffeegirl – I always make an excuse at work that I can’t go for walks because I wear heels to work but I should probably just bring a pair of shoes to change into to go for a walk. It’s a pretty lame excuse and I know it. And I’m glad you listened to your body.. everything you said makes perfect sense. I’ll have to remember it when I get sick this winter. Good insights!
@easfahl – That’s an awesome workout! My husband and I always drive to dinner… even when its right across the street. I definitely need to start pushing him to bike and walk with me more! Glad your kicking butt and had fun at the lake!
@jrhstarlight – I’ve been kinda burned out lately too. Been logging my food on MFP but not really keeping up with friends or community. Also haven’t been exercising really… but you can’t “lose the game” as long as you keep logging in because we have the rest of our lives to keep trying ☺0 -
UGH! Kept up a whole heck of a lot better today, but dang I am starting to think that JM is a crazy b!tch!! I am so dreading level three at this point! (Day 12- L2 BTW)0
-
Oh, and seriously gonna think twice abut onion rings again!! All that torture with Level 2 just now and I still didn't match the intake on those.... >_<0

Question for those of you who use HRM ...
I have a pretty inexpensive HRM -- I think it was $60 from Sports Authority. Anyway, I liked it because it was a watch (you didn't have to wear the band around your chest) and you just had to touch the sensor for it to take your HR, while showing you the estimated calorie burn. I'm starting to wonder how accurate this is because I seem to be getting really good burns on walks & doing videos (my HR is high & I'm working hard) -- but it is higher than what the estimated calorie burn is for my weight. The directions said the more often you touch the sensor, the more accurate the calorie estimate should be. I take my heart rate after each interval, or after a particular exercise if I'm breathing really hard.
This is my first HRM -- could I be easily over-estimating my calorie burn?0 -

I have a watch style one also and the one I have now is my 2nd watch one. The first I got from Sports Authority so maybe the same one but my battery died fast and I couldn't find anyone to replace it for me so I tried and screwed it up so had to get another one. I have a MIO one now (bday gift) but it is as accurate as the one I had before and I know ppl swear by the chest strap but mine seems to give me a accurate reading. One time I went out walking around town and it said in 3 hours I burned 1800 calories which seemed ridiculous but that is the only time I got a reading I didn't trust. Mfp said it should have been like 1200 but then again when I checked my heart rate alot times I was in the 150s due to going up inclines and for walking for so long.
However normally it is close to what mfp estimates but always higher of course. A few times it came up lower but again not by alot. Ex: mfp says 192 calories for 30 minute walk but hrm says 286 for me. so in my opinion not a horrible difference and sometimes it less of a gap than that but then again with Jillian I normally keep my heart rate around 150-170 depending on the workout.
plus another example I told my bf I was having a 700 calorie burn today and he said oh you must be doing an hour long workout and yep I was doing JM BFBM which is 55 minutes and yep I normally burn 700-800 doing that.
So through all that babble I believe its fairly accurate. When I have to replace the one I have now I may try a chest strap but I think replacing the battery in the one I have now will be easier. Hope that helped and made sense.0 -
Hi there everyone! Figuring it has all been an absolutely hectic week for everyone again. I know mine has been! So, I figured maybe I could help us all out in the few minutes before running off to bed to collapse once more until morning comes in 5 minutes times hehe..... If it is okay with kgs0201 and you all I think I can issue our weekly challenge. So here goes...

1. Overall how do you feel about your progress last week? I did okay. Did mora walking than I was supposed to, and crapped out on 30 DS =( Also way too much fast food!
2. How did you do with the fitness challenge (working out with a friend)? I did walk with my walking partner, and we were even able to get in an extra day!
3. What is your biggest fitness/health regret of last week? What are you going to do this week to make sure it doesn't happen again? Fast food and not working out. Pray that my schedule a stress load slows down soon!
4. What was your biggest fitness/health accomplishment of last week? The scale has officially stared moving again for me!
5. What was a non-fitness/health related high of last week? (Just something awesome that happened). My baby girl turned 5, and we were able to give her an awesome birthday party and a day filled with lots of her favorite things!
6. What is your favorite music to work out to? Really it depends on my mood. I have been accused of having a very random ipod, and it is true. Sometimes it is Rob Zombie, sometimes Disturbed, others I like Loreena McKennit or Blue October lol... my playlists are crazy

Week of 10/3 Discussion Topic: What is your biggest daily challenge that you have to overcome in your quest to be healthy? How do you overcome it? Is there a healthier alternative that you could implement? My crazy *kitten* busy schedule. When everything has been hectic with no end in sight the temptation to just grab a pizza or other fast food for dinner (snack, lunch, whatever) is overwhelming. Sometimes, it even becomes necessary. Soon however soccer season will be over, and then that will free up a large amount of time in the evenings. I am also hoping that my next class is a little less time consuming then this one has been so far. I am considering preparing meals ahead of time and freezing them, but just haven't gotten what I need or cleared out enough freezer space. Maybe if there is extra time this week I can do that.0 -
10/2 -10-9
Last Week's Weight: 180.4
This Week's Weight: 180
Weight lost last week: 0.4
1. Overall how do you feel about your progress last week? - This has been a week of self evaluation for me. I feel like there is absolutely no reason why I shouldn't be losing weight so I started to look closer at what I'm eating, my workouts etc. Whatever I've been doing isn't working so through process of elimination, I'm going to keep evolving and try something else.
2. How did you do with the fitness challenge (working out with a friend)? - I worked out with my dog Rosie in the park. I decided that she counts since I don't have any friends that live close enough to work out with me during the week. I turned her game of fetch into a workout for myself as well. After I would toss the ball for her to fetch, I would do squats or lunges until she brought it back. I felt slightly silly doing this but it turned out to be a pretty good workout for both of us.
3. What is your biggest fitness/health regret of last week? - What are you going to do this week to make sure it doesn't happen again? - Last week, I had lots of family in town so there were multiple dinners (burgers, pizza, etc) where I tried to keep my portions smaller -- but it's still amazing how fast those calories add up. I think that those days contributed to the lack of weight loss this week.
4. What was your biggest fitness/health accomplishment of last week? - I did 6 days of 30DS, taking Sunday as a rest day. I walked Rosie every evening but two (because of those family dinners). I've established a new routine & it seems to be working with my schedule, as long as I can start seeing some results soon. Tomorrow is my last day on 30DS Level 1, and I feel like I'm ready to move on to Level 2 because I can tell by my calorie burn this morning this level is getting easier for me because I'm burning less calories.
5. What was a non-fitness/health related high of last week? (Just something awesome that happened) - Seeing some extended family members for the first time in 2 years! It was awesome to spend time with them again, and they were able to come and see my new house & meet my boyfriend.
6. What is your favorite music to work out to? - I have a playlist that has country, hip hop, pop & rock -- pretty much all my favorites at the moment. This gets me moving & enjoying my workout. I add new songs & delete ones that no longer keep me motivated. I guess my playlist is constantly evolving.
Week of 10/3 Fitness Challenge: Eat three vegetables per day.... Sounds easy right? Well, for every vegetable you must do 25 reps of something, i.e. 25 jumping jacks, 25 pushups, 25 crunches, 25 squats, etc. Each vegetable should have a different exercise attached to it! Good luck!
- Geez. I eat at least 3 servings of veggies per day, but adding the exercise to go with them... this is going to be hard!! Great challenge
Week of 10/3 Discussion Topic: What is your biggest daily challenge that you have to overcome in your quest to be healthy? How do you overcome it? Is there a healthier alternative that you could implement? -- My biggest challenge in general is food, I think. I eat pretty healthy for the most part, but by the end of the week I either start to get bored, start craving, or get lazy and then my snacks are crappy processed food, we eat out or order in... and you know how that goes. My challenge is to keep my diet on an even keel where I am consistent throughout the week, giving myself 1 meal to slack off and eat whatever it is that I'm craving. This is my personal challenge for the week -- to still reach for the carrots rather than the goldfish by the end of the week.0 -
2. How did you do with the fitness challenge (working out with a friend)? - I worked out with my dog Rosie in the park. Last Week's Weight: 139 lbs
This Week's Weight: 139 lbs
Weight lost last week: 0
1. Overall how do you feel about your progress last week? I really feel pretty darn good. Been sticking with my nutrition well even through a busy weekend.
2. How did you do with the fitness challenge (working out with a friend)? Got my boyfriend to buck up and finally go to the gym with me! WINNING!
3. What is your biggest fitness/health regret of last week? What are you going to do this week to make sure it doesn't happen again? I overtrained on Thursday and Friday, making my Saturday adventures miserable. Saturday morning I barely made a usually-easy distance with my group run. Then my mountain bike ride almost flopped when I felt so depleted during the first 35 minutes that I almost quit. I said "almost quit." I didn't and thank goodness for that. Got my second wind and had a thrasher of a day on the trail! It was awesome! Rode everything out there!
4. What was your biggest fitness/health accomplishment of last week? Getting my boyfriend to the gym with me. Plus, I lost even more inches! I'm really seeing the benefit of measuring and not just watching the scale. I did the September Measurement Challenge and saw 7.5" melt away in one month eventhough I only lost ~2 lbs!
5. What was a non-fitness/health related high of last week? (Just something awesome that happened) The Razorbacks came back from a horrible first half to steal the victory from the Longhorns in the last few minutes of the game! GO HOGS!!!
6. What is your favorite music to work out to? I listen to a lot of hard alternative music in general. That's also what I like to workout to. It keeps me motivated. Alice in Chains, 10 Years, Metallica, Days of the New, Disturbed, Saliva, Seether, Avenged Sevenfold, etc
Good luck! Yep, the veggies part sounds easy... the 25 reps? Good challenge!
Week of 10/3 Discussion Topic: What is your biggest daily challenge that you have to overcome in your quest to be healthy? How do you overcome it? Is there a healthier alternative that you could implement? My biggest daily challenges really happen on the weekend. It's just too easy to grab something quick like fast food. During the week I have every planned out better, food wise and excercise schedule wise. On the weekends I'm either moving too fast to plan or let myself use the excuse that I deserve to be a little bit lazy on the weekends. I need to just buck up and plan better so I'm not so likely to take the easy way out.
Have a great week everyone!0 -
@coffeegirl17 - I'm starting level 2 of 30DS tonight too! We'll have to stay in touch on this one. I hear level 2 is the toughest of the 3.0

I bet that is a nice feeling... I haven't ever measured, but I can tell in the way that my shirts are fitting, as well as a reduction in pants sizes, so good for you!! You also listen to a lot of the same music that I do hehe. Nothing like some good music to get you going whether it is cleaning or working out!0 -

I had a hell of a time with level 2, and then my schedule went ape ****, so my plan of action is to start over on October 17th with the entire 30 days. By then everything should be calmed down by some degree... I hope!!0 -

6. What is your favorite music to work out to? Cake, Killers, MGMT and then alot of mainstream stuff like BEP, LMAFO, Eminem, Ke$ha, Enrique Iglesias.....
Good luck!
HAHAHA not easy at all seeing how I'm the opposite of everyone, I will gladly do the reps but you want make me eat what??? I'm lucky to eat 1 a day and that's been a struggle so now to add 2 more <sigh> But then again fortunate this week I am trying new recipes where there are a few veggies in each dish, we'll see how that goes.
Week of 10/3 Discussion Topic: What is your biggest daily challenge that you have to overcome in your quest to be healthy? How do you overcome it? Is there a healthier alternative that you could implement? My daily challenge is eating better period I don't eat alot of fruits and veggies and have been trying to add them in but its a slow progress. Generally I eat one veggie with dinner and sadly its like 1 of the 3 I like, but I do throw that out the window on weekends and need to change my attitude about that.0 -

Hehe, I figured one way or the other it would challenge people. I also have a hard time getting veggies in. What are you three favorites, and are there any you just cannot stand?0 -

My 3 favs are cucumbers but have to be in vinegar for me to eat, Corn but has to be white corn, and Lima beans. When I go to restaurant I can eat spinach like spinach artichoke dip or Chili's eggrolls, but have never tried to cook it myself. I can't stand green beans, peas, broccoli, carrots, celery, squash, tomatoes.... list goes on
When I go to subway I literally get bread, meat and cheese. But in the past couple of years I have added banana peppers and spinach but that's not consistent One time I went and got the basics the lady asked me if it was for a little boy??!! Kinda embarrassing. So I am up for the challenge I know I need to eat them to help with the weight loss. Plus everything I read says the more I eat it or try my taste will change, I hope so.0 -
Yeah that is quite the list lol... One think you could do is sneak it in, i.e adding pureed squash to spaghetti sauce or lasagna. One of my friends makes his own juice with a ratio of one veggie to three fruits, so he can't taste the veggies lol. I've thought about doing it but can't afford a decent juicer right now.0

Week of 10/3 Discussion Topic: What is your biggest daily challenge that you have to overcome in your quest to be healthy? How do you overcome it? Is there a healthier alternative that you could implement? I have to overcome LAZINESS! I have to just realize that just because I 've lost weight doesn't mean it will staay off by its self. I hve to just suck it up and keep working out to keep it off and lose more. I try to plan for the future. I'm already pissed at my old self for letting myself go. I don't want to gain the weight back. As much as I don't want to go to the gym or work out or the endless amounts of pizza I want.. I know that as much as I regret NOT workingout or eating a whole pizza or whatever it maybe... I know that I will truly regret gaining the weight back. I'll be depressed! If I'm going to gain the weight back it better be for a good reason.. like I was pregnant.. not just because I was lazy!0 -

Right there with ya... I would far rather curl up with a great cup of coffee and an awesome book than pant and cuss at JM on the TV! There are days I have to sit back and remind myself why I care so much about all this!!0 -
Everyday can be a challenge ... but choosing to workout is just as empowering as losing the weight. I sometimes have an internal struggle with working out -- but I love the way that I feel once I'm done, and I'm proud of myself everyday that I get to cross a day off my 30DS Challenge calendar. Speaking of ... here's to Level 2!!0
