What size is too big for a bikini?

I'm a bigger girl, closer to 300 than 200, and I wear a bikini.
Every one piece I try on makes me look WAY FATTER than the bikinis do.
I also don't carry most of my weight in my stomach, although I do have a little belly. I don't like the way I look in it, and I have cellulite all over my legs, but what can I do? I have to swim, and I just bought the suit that looked the best on me. Which happened to be a bikini. It has a little skirt thing on the bottom that is really short but manages not to look too frumpy while easing my shape a bit.
I'm still hideous, but hey. I am not wearing it to look good in, I'm wearing the least embarrassing option for working out in.0 -
Anyone can wear a bikini. There is no size requirement you have to meet in order to wear one.
It is also about confidence. Right now, I admit I am quite insecure (though I try not to be), so I probably won't wear one at this point. But anyway, try to be confident, regardless of size!0 -
as soon as it dosnt cover enough to be a bathingsuit and boarders on dental floss lol
im a size 16-18 and i still do0 -

I've been up to a 16....I am a 12....I will probably be okay wearing a bikini w/ SKIRT at 10 and a bikini at 8....I am 5'7'' w/ now B's (used to be C's) and carry most of my weight in the bottom/upper thighs.0

a little pouch is fine. anything past that just looks like your fat.0

My mom always used to say that men look at confidence over size, so I never really had a concept of being 'too big" for a bikini but about whether I feel comfortable. I want a bathing suit that makes me feel confident, and if I'm worried about cellulite I'm not going to enjoy my time on the beach, so I usually wear a size 10 two-piece, but not a bikini. As far as other people-- I say do what makes you happy! You're not going to bother me one bit.0

I'm sure its different for everyone, but a sure sign is when you can't see the outfit anymore...
I second this motion.
Third!
It depends on the proportions and smoothness. Someone can be bigger, but still look sexy as hell. And someone can be skinny, but saggy.
But overall... if you're comfortable in it, and not indecent (nipples, pubes and buttcrack all concealed), that's the only thing that really matters. Anyone who doesn't like it can avert their eyes.0 -
I think when someone wears a bikini that can't quite pull it off (by societal standards).............its sexy. Probably the confidence factor...........wear what you want, its your body.....0
-
I say ROCK THAT BIKINI AT ANY SIZE!! Confidence is sexier than any hot body!!!!0

I sometimes wish people would consider what age they should stop wearing bikinis, rather what size.0
-
I don't think you can say what size should be the cut off because different people carry their weight differently.
BTW, I am size 8 and I wouldn't wear a bikini if I had to. No way. No how.0 -
A bikini is made to show off the body.0

Every you run or jump and your fat rolls are making clapping sound.
You're too fat!
When your stretch marks look like tiger stripes across your body.
You're too fat!
If your boobs have stretch marks and they hang to your navel.
You're too fat!
If you have a 6 pack or a 4 pack on your back.
You're too fat!
If your belly hides half of your vagina.
You're too fat!
If you look like Rasputia from Norbit
You're too fat!
IM NOT BEING MEAN! IM BEING HONEST!0 -

I don't think there should be an age, if an older person has a rockin body that they are proud of why shouldn't they be able to show it off!! I hope that when I'm old I still have the confidence to wear one!!
I agree that it shouldn't matter what age if you've got it. There was a picture of Helen Mirren a couple of years back and she looked amazing and I believe she is in her 60's!0 -
Hell at a size 16 I was wearing a bikini with other drunken friends and didn't give a ****. If you're comfortable do it. If other people don't like it, they can advert their eyes or leave. I never seen a sign that said only skinny people in bikinis allowed here. Lol0

I think it has a lot to do with how you are proportioned and how toned you are. I am 5'11" and with hips and a bust so I will probably never be below a size 10, even at my ideal weight. A size 12 to me is about a 6 to an 8 on most other women's scale. I have learned throughout my life to not get caught up in the size, but the way I look.0

im a size 5 and still hate a bikini....0

I'm 39. I don't see me switching to a one-piece anytime soon.0 -
I was gonna post again, but figured this'd be locked.
I don't really think age can determine if someone should wear a bikini or not. I've seen tons of women older then me who have bodies better then women half their age.
If you're workin out well into your 50s and look that way, go nuts.
Granted my point of view is that of a former outta shape dude, so i probably see this a lot different then the general population. But I know better then to judge or care.0 -
I must say, if you wouldn't wear your bra and panties in public- a bikini wouldn't be appropriate:)0

At one point, as a teenager, I got down to 130 lbs/size 7. I finally braved a two piece, but it was a tankini, and I was still very self conscious. Then I gained a lot of weight. I'm back down to 150s/size 10 and I wear a bikini and flaunt it. I think I bought my first bikini at 23 and close to 160 lbs.
I figure I've always wanted a bikini so why wait until I look perfect to get one? I'm never going to be 100% happy with my body. One pieces never really look that great on anyone. Like someone else said, if I'm fat I'm fat and I'm not going to look that much better in a one piece than a bikini. So I found a cute, flattering bikini and wear it every chance I get!0 -

im gonna wear it!! I say if you feel comfortable, go for it! I've never felt comfortable in a bikini before. Now I'm a size 8, still have about a 35" waist, but damn it, I worked hard to get here!!0 -
I think it's more about your comfort and confidence level than a size. If you're happy with your body and feeling confident go for it! If you're feeling self conscious and will be tugging at your suit and feeling uncomfortable, maybe you're not ready yet.0

That doesn't even make sense. Most of us wouldn't wear a bra and panties in public ... but a bikini at an appropriate swimming locale is totally different.0 -
Ok I laughed out loud at "*kitten* apron."
But there are some really judgmental statements being made here about guts, back fat, cellulite, etc. We all have had one (or more) of these effects of being fat, otherwise we wouldn't be on MPF, so how about we give our fellow fat and fat/old people a break?
I would suggest to anyone that has serious issues with half-naked fat people to 1. Stop projecting your self-hate on others and 2. Try a nudist activity. Almost no one is "hot," and you realize that it doesn't matter, you can have a good time and meet great people. It's very freeing...no more nightmares of naked trips to school or work.0 -
no size is too big for a bikini in my opinion, as long as you feel good then nothing else matters. its all about body confidence, if you have that then you can where whatever you like x
Haven't read anything else after this post, but just wanna say, I completely agree with this. Too often, people dress to please others. Dress to please YOURSELF! Last time I was at the beach, I saw 2 women, in their 40's, wearing bikinis, and they were probably considered obese. But they were having a much better time than the self-conscious early-20's girls constantly tugging at their bikini bottom sides and squealing about how "fat" they were (they weren't) and looking around every 5 seconds to see if anyone was near them, for fear someone might see their "fat."0 -
I was more worried about my body when I was 18 and toned.. what a waste! I say rock it if you are comfortable. I spent some time in florida and there are all types on the beach. I realized I would rather be like the carefree chunky girls in a bikini running around after there kids, or playing with their friends than the skinny girls too worried to stand up without a sarong on. My body is not perfect, I have stretch marks and a little cellulite, but that time on the beaches taught me that I'd rather have fun than worry about what I looked like. So wear what makes you comfortable, but in my opinion no matter what you wear go wearing confidence.0
