    Hi everyone:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Welcome to the newcomers, I've been missing for a couple of days (?) and see there are some new faces .

:flowerforyou: Rebel hope the meds kick in and you start to feel better soon. Yes you are right, we shouldn't take anything for granted. I am trying to get myself as healthy as possible (even though I sabotage myself often !!! ) as I want to be around for many many years. I don't want to be like my poor mum very overweight and crippled with back and leg pains. Even though I feel as if I'm slowing down I want to be able to walk (or run :noway: ) whenever I feel like it. I don't want to be an "old" lady.

:flowerforyou: Lisa don't give up. I'm a bit guilty of that myself, but weight is a strange thing, sometimes when you think you've had a bad day and gone over on calories that it when it shows as a loss??? Of course if you over indulge too much then the weight does go up - as I have found to my cost.

:flowerforyou: Today is a new day. I need to practice saying NO I seem to have lost the knack. Had a lot of birthdays in October and it's showing on the scales. Had a shock last night when I weighed myself, I'd gone up by 2lbs making me heavier than I've been for a long long time.:embarassed: :embarassed: :frown: Feel so disgusted with myself for letting myself down like this. BUT reading your posts and all the encouragement being given to each other has helped. So THANK YOU I will try to do better today.

:flowerforyou: Barbie I think the time has come for me to admit that I can't eat some foods in moderation and ban them from the house! I use the excuse that I buy them for my daughter, but enough is enough if they are not in the house I can't eat them. I also think that drinking more water helps in weight loss (not sure why but I notice a difference when drinking it) so back to drinking more water, especially at work.

Talking of work I'd better make a move, need to get breakfast and then get ready. I need to be on time today, there's not many of us in the office today, a few are on holiday and others are working at different sites.

Have a good Friday everyone - I hope my new determination lasts - wish me luck!

    Good morning ladies.

I sat down at the computer to write a good long post but I've got the sudden urge to get up and do some exercise before I go out, so I'm just going to wish you all a good Friday and send my love to you all.

    Off to the treadmill now.

    Love

    Good Morning, Ladies,

Yeah! My scale finally moved and stayed there after a L-O-N-G time of being stuck or up and back. Only half a pound for now, but I'll take it:-) I need to keep this going before the holidays so I go into them feeling energized and on-track! That's my goal!

Karin: WELCOME! You have found a great place from support, encouragement and friendship. We look forward to getting to know you!

Rita: I know the feeling of the faulty scale and having to move the ticker up. You'll take care of that in no time. Stick with it!

Lisa: Thinking of you! You are doing all the right things and I think you will see the scale move very soon. Keep the faith:flowerforyou:

Rebel: Glad you have your new meds and hope they work well for you. Our oldest son, who is 31, had to go on those meds a year ago. It freaked him out but has helped so much. He couldn't figure out why he was so tired all of the time. He is a health nut and very careful with foods and exercise, so he was so puzzled. He is great now, but has to change doses every few months. How often have you had to change over the years? He is worried about having to take more and more.

Barbie: you give good advice and we are so lucky to have you "lead the way" here!

I tried a yoga DVD yesterday and really enjoyed it. (My yoga studio and teacher has dropped the class that worked best for my schedule so I have been missing the class. Doing it by myself is never as good!) It is Rodney Yee (sp?) and I got the Daily Practice one...it has 5 sessions and it is made to do one each day of the week. I really like it so far and it is a perfect length of time for me after my walk each morning. (20-30 minutes, instead of 60-90). If anyone is interested, I recommend it!

It is another beautiful day and I hope to do a bit more weeding in my garden. Have a wonderful day, dear Ladies!

    Good for You Kackie,
My scale didn't move last week either, but I at least it didn't go up. I had a bit of a scare when I initally weighed myself and I had gone up 4 lbs. in one week! I realized it was my scale, so I removed the battery and rebooted it, which then showed I didn't gain 4 lbs, but I didn't lose anything either. I have been very frustrated as the weight is not coming off as I expected it would. I just have to work harder I guess.

I am on a new medication for my arthritis and one of the side effects is weight gain, so I am struggling with that as well. And if I don't eat before taking the medication, I get severe abdominal pain.

Well, enough complaining............I just need to focus on what I put in my mouth and get off my butt!

I hope all of you ladies have a great Friday!

Kackie - Yes, that is my GGS in my pic. I need to put up a new one as he was 6 month in this one and he is almost 8 months old now. Grand kids are so much fun and now we are starting on a crop of great grands. :noway: Where the heck did the time go! Hopefully he will be a singleton for a while though. Our granddaughter has her hands full with one for now.

Just a quick hit and run here. Too much to do and not enough time will me my mantra for the next couple of months!

    Hello friends,

I am off to a "Girls Night" with friends in Connecticutt but had to check in before I go. My husband and I went out to breakfast this morning and then did a quick run to a local wholesale club for Halloween candy and chiobani yogurt. I said we are not getting anything else...it seems like we never get out of there for under $300. Well...today was a good day....but it wasn't as much fun!! I did find a cute book for a birthday present for our grand nephew. When we got home....we went for a long walk...we live right near the bay. It is a beautiful day here and they are predicting snow for tomorrow night. I had planned to do the eliptical at the gym and as we were walking I thought about how good it was to be able to shift ---still get my exercise but not be stuck that it has to be a certain way.

About never giving up.....I think I have been motivated to keep going because of so many people on this board (especially you Barbie). I have struggled with this for a long time and done many weight loss programs. I now know, from using the tools here at MFP--logging and analyzing my numbers---that I do lose....just very, very slowly. It can get discouraging and I think if I didn't have this board, I don't know if I would have stuck to it. Every day is not perfect .....but I keep moving.

Kackie.... I know what you mean about doing yoga in a class versus alone. I teach yoga (something I started after I retired) and I was at a weekend workshop given by Rodney Yee and his wife a couple of years ago. He is a great teacher and his videos are good. I like my solitary practice and I really love doing yoga with my classes--its a great energy. I hope you find another teacher....keep looking and it the meantime...there is always Rodney!

    Have a great Friday!

I want to write a long post in reply to so many but I have to rush..... off for a girls spa weekend in the city to celebrate a friend's 50th....:drinker:

Thinking of those who are having health issues..... :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Thankyou for all the lovely supportive comments when I had a the wobbles in the last few days..... I am feeling a lot more positive now and it is wonderful to to have so many understanding people on my side!!

I have my diary open to friends only.... happy to have some feedback but not really open to comments from all.... I find it confusing enough to figure out what is right for me as there are so many different opinions as to what is the right thing to do.... happy to have and to offer support and encouragement though:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Have a good weekend all, Lisa x

Just got home from the dentist. My tongue feels like the size of Texas and my bottom lip is as big as Alaska. I don't think I will be eating tonight and I don't feel like working out. I hate not being able to feel my mouth. Uggggh.

I can’t believe it’s been since Tuesday since I last posted.

Mary, yay for getting to see your baby. Hope you guys had a nice b-day celebration today.

I notice when I drink more water I eat less because I spend more time in the bathroom.

Lisa, who have you friended on MFP? Sharing diaries can be a real eye opener. I know some of my slower losing friends eat a lot more prepared foods than I do (I am lucky and have time to cook all three meals most days). If some of us can see your diary perhaps we can give suggestions.

Rebel, so many folks seem to have thyroid issues it makes me wonder what is going on. What has changed – the way food is grown? It’s very interesting but a bummer too since like you posted, you went undiagnosed for so long. Which also bugs me because it has happened to some other friends. Enough that you’d think docs would get a clue. :frown:

Amanda, you go girl. Hope you had a great time exercising.

    Kackie!! YAY!!! Great loss

Lisa, my diary is public but I think I would find it irritating if someone commented without me asking for comments. That hasn’t happened so far. :grumble:

Get to go to the strip tomorrow night and have dinner at one of my favorite properties. We’ll be eating at STK at the Cosmopolitan (haven’t been to that particular restaurant yet but really love the Cosmo). I’ve checked the menu and my day is planned out. I told hubby I’ll be designated driver (his friend is visiting for his 40th b-day, the guy is just a baby, lol) so that I don’t drink too many alcohol calories. I do need to get some major exercise calories, though, to account for all I’ve planned (can anyone say “crème brulee”). I’ll us the spin bike for sure and hope to get out for a hike.

 my food diary is public and sometimes people look at it and ask questions, but no one has ever made a comment without my asking for suggestions. I read a lot of food diaries of people who talk about what they're eating or who mention that they're staying withing their calories but having trouble losing weight. something that helped me was paying attention to sodium. I don't have any actual health conditions that required that I limit sodium but my husband has heart troubles and should be limiting sodium so I'm careful about what I cook. the longer I log my food, the more I learn about things like sodium (consume less) and fiber ( consume more) and protein (consume more especially if you're really active.

 I wore my jack-o-lantern costume to line dance this morning. Many other people had costumes so it was fun. I had to stop at the post office on the way to class and got some strange looks.

:noway: I have been remiss at doing yoga. I have two Rodney Yee DVD's and used to do yoga every morning.(now I walk dogs instead) and need to make a plan to yoga to my day again.

:flowerforyou: hubby went fishing today and brought home two salmon so we have some healthy eating coming up

Kackie, I wanted to respond to you because of the comment you made about your son. Tell your son, I was never so happy than to start taking a little pill. It literally changed my life. (I can only speak to the scenario of hypothyroidism, and assume that true in his case). The dosage is absolutely nothing to worry about. What does matter is that it is the right one for him. The changes to dosage are likely necessary because the first year is a bit of a balancing act. Blood work results can help determine the right dosage. And since the dosage is in MICRO-grams (if he takes T4 and not T3, which I think is in mg), it can be pretty well tailored (at least it is that way in Canada). My personal journey will be different from his. As a woman, I went for example into the different stages of menopause, and my dosage got reduced over the years to 112 mcg. (I have been 100, 125, 150, 175 and 200 mcg at different stages, I even took T3 for a while in combination with T4). He needs to see the medication as in the case of diabetes; you need it for the rest of your life. For years now I have been simply under the care of my family physician, after originally having been diagnosed by a specialist.

Kackie, if you wish, you can message me separately and I am happy to exchange information on the subject.

btw. I am feeling pretty good now that I am over my cold, and am looking forward to "balancing out" with respect to thyroid condition once again. Besides it is Friday night and time to feel mellow!

Cynthia, thanks for your comment. You would think doctors would get a clue. I am still astonished how thyroid conditions remain so widely misdiagnosis or simply NOT diagnosed. Ever since I was accurately diagnosed (I had given up on doctors all together by age 39) I have been passionate about the subject and vocal - especially for women - to get proper blood tests done when they suffer from any of the symptoms. There are a number of websites that will provide a list of symptoms. Symptoms are often confused with other conditions. Women's complaints in particular are (still) often ignored by the medical establishment, sad to say. I was called neurotic and lazy for example. Since going on medication, I went back to school and obtained a professional accounting designation, while working full-time and raising a family with 4 children. I never knew a person could actually have energy and accomplish things.

Like I said in a previous post: I am grateful and take nothing for granted. I love my life! And I can tell you without a doubt, that I will kick up a good fuss and not take any nonsense when any kind of medical expert does not listen to me.

Sorry, I get a little passionate about this.
    love you all  Rebel

    Good morning Ladies.:flowerforyou:

I posted this on my profile so I figured I would do it here also.

Well, at least my little ticker lady has touch the number 160. I'm so happy. I have started strength training after my cardio and feel real good about it. However, I walk kind of funny for a little while because my muscles have not had that much work out in a few. But, I am feeling in control, something I have not had since my mom passed. Now I have her in my heart and she helps me get it all together. I figured she and God can talk and help me. lol Well that's it. Just feeling happy I've not weighed this since I started my first year on MFP back in 2008 at. I just never gave up. I did not want to go back to the other me struggling to walk and wearing old ugly clothes.. Thanks to all the help I get here from my good friends. I am almost at my half way mark and I am finally going to break it. :)

I think this is a very special time because this is the time when my body will fight with me to stay this weight. Well, I'm going to break that and have my body back MY WAY.. I'm going to be the one in control this time not my body, not my emotions, not anything that will get me upset. I'm going to fight tooth and nail to get to my goal.

:flowerforyou: I also have thyroid problems. Plus, ulcers, and I think my medication has help me tremendously. I also felt tired and not able to move around like I had. I will be going back to the specialist this month to check to see if I need to have my thyroid removed. I thinking not because of how I am feeling. I am thinking positive and feeling positive about it. I also agree that taking the meds are so very important. Best thing. Then in December I will go to the specialist to see how my ulcer''s are doing. I'm also positive about that also. I have been really taking care of ME. and it is showing mentally and physically :)

    Happy Saturday, Everyone:

Hope you are all well. I hope those of you that are with health issues can soon get them settled down. I know thyroid problems can be terrible; I do not have it, but my mother battled it for years before they figured out what it was. She ended up having to have her thyroid gland removed. Then she was fine.

I am a little excited today, for a change. Today is my "official" weigh in day and I was down 3.6 lbs!!!! I knew I was being "good" and staying on track and I was so happy. When I started MFP I lost 8 lbs then gained it back now I have lost it back, almost again. I am really happy about that and it has given me the incentive to keep going!!

Oops, gotta run, hubby is ready to head out the door, I just had to share.

    Talk to you later.

    Love, Cathy xx

    Ladies,
It's so encouraging to read your posts. Makes me feel so not alone as I deal with daily life. I weighed in for my Oct. challenge this morning and had lost the 5 lbs I was aiming for. That felt good as for much of the month I had hit a plateau.

On a positive note, I went for my annual checkup this week and everything looked good. My AIC test was a 5.2 which was fantastic considering I had been told I was pre-diabetic several years ago. My highest AIC was 6.9 which is just .1 point from diabeties. As diabeties runs in my family I am extra concerned and that is one of my motivations to keep my weight down. My 98 yr. old mother is diabetic and struggles with it daily. She lives with me so that means I am aware of what she deals with.

I keep my 2 yr. old granddaughter when her mother substitute teaches so I had her 4 days this week. One of the teachers was in a serious accident and possibly won't be able to finish the year so they have asked my daughter-in-law to teach at least until March. This presents a real challenge for me as it's hard to work in excercise and eating right. By the time she goes home, I'm exhausted and don't feel like anything except sitting down and eating whatever is easiest to grab.

Keeping up with a 98 yr old and a 2 yr. old is challenging but I'm thankful for both of them so am counting my blessings and will try to work in the excercise and right eating as well.

Have a great weekend to all and thanks for letting me vent as little.

    Happy Saturday, everyone!

Rebel: Thank you so much for taking the time to explain your experience with thyroid issues. I will pass this along to oldest son. I am glad to hear that getting things in balance does take some time and is typical. He is impatient with it, but feeling better, I can tell. You are so right about having to be your own advocate with the medical profession. He kept telling his doctor that "SOMETHING is WRONG". It took a while, but he was persistent too.

Kathy(Plantlady): You are doing AWESOME. You look SO young in your new photo. WTG!:flowerforyou:

Cathy: And congratulations on the great loss! I know that feels great.:flowerforyou:

Barbie: Fresh Salmon!!! YUMMY! It is one of my very favorite things. DH doesn't love it so I order it when we eat out. Or make it when the boys are home. Hmmmm...I would love some tonight!

DH has a dear, childhood friend who has been battling cancer for several years now. He lost his leg a year ago when it moved into the bone. He just got engaged last month and is so in love with a darling lady. Yesterday DH found out he had been back in the hospital for the past week and the doctors have said they can't help him anymore. DH got in the car early this morning to drive up to see him. It's about a 5 hour drive so he will stay in a hotel nearby. I am glad that he is going and hope that they can have some nice time together. He is just going to show up...he didn't tell him he was coming. I know it will make Jim feel a little better. So sad:cry:

Just another reminder that we better do the best we can every day with what we've got!
I am thankful to have you all here. Take care, Dear Ladies:heart::heart: Kackie

Yes, my family has the thyroid problem - my mother, 2 sisters and my oldest daughter have all had their thyroids removed. One of my sister's was malignant so she had to have radiation as well. It's something we need to keep an eye on in our family.

So happy for you with your great weight loss!

Hope you have a great weekend!!

    Hi All!.

Well, we've begun our winter storm..yukky day in South Jersey...rain, sleet, snow, cold. My son, Tim, bought a rental property and wants me to go take a look later this afternoon. I don't really feel like going out in this...but he's so excited about his investment...how could I say no. I'm happy to say I got rid of one of those extra 2 pounds my new scale discovered.

Cynthia...nice thought about drinking alot of water. It does keep me out of the kitchen...and if i use the upstairs bathroom, it's exercise!

Barbie...I was just telling Patrick how I'd like to move somewhere else so we can have fresh fruit n nut trees...avocados, almonds, etc. and also have a better garden growing season than we do here. Then I told him about your hubby bringing home salmon. Pat's ready to move to WA. Can you ship some salmon w/the applesauce??? PLEASE!

Kathy...Good determination! You're inspiring! I understand your feelings of loss and not feeling in control. My little brother (he was 50) passed 2 years ago. Losing him has shaken me to my core. I've still not recovered from that.

Jet...Congrats on the good bloodwork! I'm sure you're getting alot of exercise just running and taking care of your granddaughter.

I'm taking a close look at my food diary....lots of room for improvement. Today is shopping day so I'll be getting more veggies. They're completely lacking in my diary cause my guys don't like veggies and I rarely cook them for myself. I'm taking back kitchen control!

Finding a good doctor is so important...and sometimes not so easy. I've been to a few that I saw 1x and never went back. I'm happy now with my dr. He knows when I walk in the door that I've probably already figured out what's going on and I only need him to bounce ideas off of and order tests. He laughs with me all the time. And he's not opposed to alternative medicine since I'm a huge fan of acupuncture.

Many of you have lost weight...WTG!!!!

I must tell you all that your are all incredible. I've known you for only about 3 weeks, but I've never felt this inspired or motivated by anyone else. And not just in matters of weight loss n exercise. Just the sharing of ideas and life thoughts is wonderful. Thanks to all of you.

Have a great Saturday and (to quote a co-worker) make every second count!

    Rita
