While we debate this the mods are going around to a number of my friends and deleting their pictures. Why waste our breath?

Make people feel unwanted and they leave.
  • I get irritated with people posting their *kitten* pics here because I have to look at them, which causes me to get no work done when I'm at the office. Thanks for all of the distractions! :flowerforyou:

Ok so alot of people seem to have a problem with some of the pictures on this site, and it got me thinking about some of the ads I see.
Now there has been A LOT of fuss over pictures people consider too risque, this is my question to those who have an issue with the pictures. I am not trying to attack,or start a war here im just generally curious if thoses pictures bother you because you log in from work or around your kids does having to see ads like this one bother you?
    Z_Performance_160x600-1.jpg

Now ive never put up booty pics or anything like that but ive always just viewed them as progress pics.I know others dont for the work/kids reasons I listed before. I just dont see the diffrence myself so I thought I would ask

Well it's no secret as far as I go. . I don't want my daughter walking by the computer seeing breasts or bottoms in the camera. . a bikini where you are standing back from the camera to show progress is perfectly fine. . nothing wrong with that. . So I just think it comes down to how you present the picture. .

Believe me when I get my boxing body back I will be showing my progress. . . but I think there are limits . . for me a tank top and shorts can show my progress just fine. . or perhaps a bathing suit.

Ok but you didnt answer the question about the picture i posted from the ad that is all over mfp. So do you have a problem with your daughter seeing that since it is a close up a butt i just cropped out the words on the ad. And if you dont why not?

I have suggested 2 or 3 times to make viewing profile pictures optional. The way pictures are being deleted seems arbitrary and unbalanced.

Also...I think it is ironic that as I type this, I see a zumba ad that has a girl with what looks like her panties showing. *gasp*

How about just stop whining about the whole subject?

it should totally be optional. I'm saddened.

You make a great point... there are several adds that show women in bikinis or tight clothing... and that freaky jacked grandpa... I wonder if that is because most fitness related things include people's bodies...

I knew a website where all sorts of people would post their progress pictures and have fun with their friends.

That's you. It's just too bad that we aren't subjected to the same rules as everything else in society. You watch TV? You will see and hear more, much more there than you would ever think of seeing here! we ARE adults. You are supposed to be to be on this site (though clearly that is only lightly enforced). PG-13 is pretty clear as far as the standards that should be enforced - no nudity. If you see nipple (ridiculous in and of itself that it is considered adult only - IMO), or crotch that's inappropriate. But seriously, unless you live in Gnome or Fairbanks, maybe Moscow, you see more during the summer on the sidewalks of Anytown USA, or at any public beach. Adults should be treated like adults.

    Hmm.

    1. This is a site for a group of people to support each other during the process of losing/gaining weight and getting healthy.
All tv infomercials of fitness products all want before and after pics in minimal clothes.

With that in mind, it is a no-brainer to think people are going to have pics with skimpy clothes on especially as the weight starts coming off.
And for the most part these are very VERY VERY inspirational... Let me say this again - VERY inspirational to most people who look at the progress.

When you are facing a bad day the last thing you can visualize is being thin and putting that chocolate down. Progress seems so far away. So seeing these pictures helps pull people from the food cliff of despair.

Sure, people probably can go overboard and possibly through the jubilee of success but that doesn't mean that some moderator should come by and delete the pictures.

If people find these pictures offensive, they need to exercise their right to not go to that person's page, skip their blog/topic post if you are offended by profile pic, or log off MFP. It is sickening to see so many people who can't take accountability for their own life and options and expect some "authority" to shield them from seeing anything, making any decisions or thinking for themselves.

Sheesh. I hope MFP shapes up and devises some plan, because although I love this site so far, if they go all censorship on pictures, what is next and I can't support that.

There is a difference between that which is entirely covered and someone wearing underwear and having the camera that close. . But to each their own. . I don't want her viewing scantily clad males or females. . That is my personal preference. . I have problems with a lot of the commercials and programs as well due to this. . so I also limit our viewing of tv.. . Everyone has different views in life and there is nothing wrong with being different. . it is what makes us unique.

I'm offended by this ad: seriously, the look on her face is ridiculous. It's an ad for men, too- do men really want to go on an eDiet and look like her?? Or I could take the ad in an entirely different direction and think really dirty things about the advertisement and then I'm majorly offended! So I sincerely wish MFP would take it down. :-p

I just want to sound off. I feel like if you are at work, and the content of the profile pic is too risque, then you probably shouldn't be on the internet at work. The same with your kids, if the pic is too risque then you probably shouldn't be on the internet around your kids. I have kids, and probably only once, did I see a pic that I was not comfortable with them seeing. This is the internet and it is public domain. It is not our responsibility to censor what your children view. It is yours.

I don't think it's an issue of conservatism. I'm pretty conservative, but I'm also an adult, and I could not care less what kind of pictures people post of themselves. I have somehow managed to come to the conclusion that if I'm that freaking offended by what I see on an Internet message board, I have the option to leave and not come back. Some people wake up every day looking for something to raise hell about. It's like they get some kind of cheap thrill out of tattling on people. They're just *kitten*.

HEY EVERYBODY! OVER HERE! I FOUND AN ADULT!
  • Do you need it spelled out in another language?

    1) No advertising or self-promotion. You may not post advertisements for other services, websites, etc. which intend to sell products or services for monetary gain. Any such links will be removed at moderator discretion without warning and could result in your posting privileges being revoked. You also may not make any posts from which you might financially benefit, i.e. "message me for more info", "I can get you free samples", "visit my site for more info", etc.

    2) Posts intended to promote potentially unsafe or controversial weight loss products or procedures, including non-medically prescribed supplements or MLM products, are considered inappropriate and will be removed without warning. This rule has been created to protect members from multi-level marketing schemes or other hidden sales tactics which are strictly prohibited on this site.

    3) Posts or messages to members promoting websites that compete with MyFitnessPal are also prohibited.

    4) Do not attack/slam/insult other users. The forums are here so that members can help support one another. Attacks or insults against each other takes away from the supportive atmosphere and will not be tolerated. You can discuss the message or topic, but not the messenger - NO EXCEPTIONS. If you are attacked by another user, and you reciprocate, YOU will also be subject to the same consequences. Defending yourself, defending a friend, etc. are NOT excuses. Violations of this rule are taken very seriously and may result in being banned without warning! If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

    5) Topics which are started with the intent to denigrate, belittle, or disparage another MyFitnessPal member, either directly named or through enough descriptive commentary to be possibly identified, are prohibited. Such topics will be instantly deleted and may result in the banning of the original poster. This includes following another poster around in the forums, posting about past events gone sour, divulging personal information, spreading gossip or rumors, posting email exchanges between users, etc. Keep the drama off the forums!

    6) Do not post an email or mail message from any other MyFitnessPal user or moderator on the forums at any time.

    7) No explicit, sexual, offensive, insulting or vulgar content or language. This includes any explicit or "risque" images. The MyFitnessPal forums are rated PG-13.

    8) No derogatory or offensive references to sex, gender, ethnicity, religions, or sexual orientation.

    9) For your safety, do not post personal information such as telephone numbers, emails, mailing addresses, instant messenger ids, etc

    10) Do not post messages that violate federal, state/provincial, or local laws which include, but are not limited to, anything that violates a copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret or is bound by NDA (non-disclosure agreement)

    11) If you have concerns about another poster or wish to report a rule violation, the ONLY appropriate venue is to use the Report Post feature or to message me. You may NOT air such concerns on the message boards themselves. If you have a general concern that does not involve a specific member, you may post your question in a civil manner in the "Feedback" or "Help" forums.

    12) We reserve the right to disable the posting privileges of any member for any reason at our discretion without warning or notice.

    13) Topics about politics, religion, atheism, or sexuality are not allowed and will be deleted. This includes posting images or signatures. Unfortunately, we have seen that topics about any of these subjects are highly likely to result in heated arguments and disputes. If you really wish to discuss either of these topics, please google political forums, religious forums, etc. - there are plenty of other places to express your views.

    14) Creating a second account for the purposes of deceiving other members is not permitted. If you don't feel comfortable posting something under your own account, then you shouldn't be posting it. You also may not create a second account in order to try to work around a forum suspension - if you do so, you will be banned from the site permanently.

    15) Protesting a moderator or admin action is not allowed on the forums at any time. Anyone that creates or participates in a protest topic, outlines any protest in their profile, posts any negative commentary with regards to moderation or administration, or discusses emails/actions between moderators/admins and themselves in their profiles or in the forums will have their posting privileges suspended or may even be permanently banned from the site. The forums or other public venues are not the appropriate place to lodge a complaint. If you have a question or concern about a moderator or admin action, you should email one of the moderators or an admin with your concern and we will investigate the matter promptly.

    16) Requests or solicitations for donations are also not allowed. As you can imagine, we have a lot of people who would like to raise money for worthy causes through the site. As much as we'd like to support these causes, if we were to allow requests for donations, the forums would quickly become full of such requests which would take away from the main purpose of the forums - to support one another.

    17) Please stay on-topic, and help us make our forums a "No Hijacking" zone. Users come to MyFitnessPal for support and encouragement. Off-topic or derogatory remarks are discouraging and disrespectful, and will be deleted. Repeated offense may result in revocation of posting privileges. Please either contribute positively to a thread, or move on without posting.

    18) No pro-anorexia or pro-bulimia posts. This includes signatures, profile names, and profile bylines. Eating Disorders are medical conditions requiring professional medical attention. MyFitnessPal does not permit the endorsement of any ED behavior, and strongly recommends that anyone suffering from the symptoms of Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia, or Compulsive eating make use of the resources offered by the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders. You may reach the ANAD hotline by phone in the US: 847-831-3438 (Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, Central Time) or on the web at http://www.anad.org/site/anadweb/

In order to facilitate moderation of these rules, posts in the public forums must be made in English.

Thanks for your cooperation and I hope you are enjoying the site!

I was not questioning the site owners or mods,I was asking a question to the people that have a problem with the pics. So there was no need to repeat yourself in the first place. This thread was not started in protest of the pictures being removed it was a question for other users

@Jade - how old is your daughter and does she go to public school? if so, how are you going to shield her from the stuff that girls wear to school now days? I've seen girls coming out of our local high school showing more cleavage than what I've seen here!

They have a strict dress code at her school. . I know this because my mom taught in the district for 34 years. . but other than that if I had my choice she would be going to the school we have through our church. . I am hoping to have her there by high school.

Because you are so right. . I have seen exactly what you are talking about. . and it is scary. . it is scary to think that girls would present themselves that way and then be walking down the street with predators and such out there. .

Edit. . btw. . my daughter is 11 and in 6th grade.

    REfrickingPORTED!!! Damn Double Standard Crap!!

If you two get my eye candy taken away, you'll be making sandwiches for a week!!

But in all seriousness, yes men get away with more nudity because more of a woman's body is sexualized by our society. A parenting magazine was slammed a couple of years ago for showing a woman nursing her baby on the cover of the magazine. It was crazy, you could barely see the boob because of the baby's head and that is biologically what a boob is for.

As for ads, as the site owner you do have a certain amount of control over what types of ads are allowed on your site. It depends on the ad network.

I used to work for JC Penney catalog. They had to reprint all of their catalogs one year because of an advertisement of a desk. It was supposed to be an artist's desk and there was this teeny tiny print taped to the desk of one of Toulouse L'autrec's nudes
