I'm not going to repeat myself again, but here's the abbreviated version of my opinion.

If you want contol, start your own site. Otherwise, stay and deal with it, or deactivate and don't deal with it.

I just want to sound off. I feel like if you are at work, and the content of the profile pic is too risque, then you probably shouldn't be on the internet at work. The same with your kids, if the pic is too risque then you probably shouldn't be on the internet around your kids. I have kids, and probably only once, did I see a pic that I was not comfortable with them seeing. This is the internet and it is public domain. It is not our responsibility to censor what your children view. It is yours.

And for this reason I have sites blocked that would be inappropriate. (parental controls)

I was not questioning the site owners or mods,I was asking a question to the people that have a problem with the pics. So there was no need to repeat yourself in the first place. This thread was not started in protest of the pictures being removed it was a question for other users

This continually comes up. I don't understand why. Common courtesy dictates that when I come into YOUR home, I respect your wishes and rules, AND, when you visit my home, YOU abide by my rules and wishes. If I am morally or ethically unable to live with your rules, I won't visit your home. And, of course, vice versa. What I will not do, is try and change your home and I do not welcome your change in my own.

I'm more offended by these medifast ads that keep showing up. They imply that 9 doctors and an obnoxious looking woman in a red dress endorse the product. But at closer inspection you will see that it is in fact the same 4 doctors appearing twice and then the top of someone's head. Unless of course only twin doctors endorse the product, I think we've all been duped!

While I'm sure you're ok with this I wonder if Mike would suggest that the vast majority of his users deactivate and use another site.

Are you Mike? This is the crowd you're catering to. Are you going to be ok with it if (going by this thread alone) 90%+ of your users stop using the site?

There are people that have pictures in their gallery for some time that are now being deleted that have never been presented as a profile pic. Sure, abide by the rules, but don't enforce them sudden;y when they haven't been enforced before, and without warning.

Let's keep the discussion civil folks. I'll try to continue to allow this topic, but it has to stay civil.

I'll talk to Steven to try to make sure enforcement of this rule is consistent. But in the meantime, here are some additional guidelines that might help explain our photo policy:

    - no nudity
    - no underwear, thongs, g-strings, or banana hammocks
    - no excessive cleavage (if you would wear it to work, it’s probably OK)
    - no close-up shots of your cleavage, butt, breasts or crotch in any state of dress

Those are not the complete set - if we feel people are deliberately trying to push the boundaries, for example, we reserve the right to remove any photo we feel is inappropriate. But we do encourage people to share and celebrate their progress, and we feel that there are lots and lots of ways to do so that still adhere to our site rules.

    Hope that helps clarify things.

My name is Mike. I am not THE Mike and I don't pretend to speak for him. I like this site. I use it. I am not advocating deactivation for anyone. I am merely pointing out your options.

I am giving my opinion, just as everyone else is.

And, to Fearandloathing -- I'm not questioning you or your original post. As a matter of fact, I don't even get the ads.

Secondary pictures were not under scrutiny before, so why the change?

Also, if a whole Groups sections could be created, why not a opt in for profile pictures?

Just out of curiousty Mike since no one else has answered what about the ads? I mean they are the same thing really if you go by the one I orginally posted. It seems pretty risque to me. I orginally didnt pose this question for you or the mods but since your here I thought I would ask

I did scroll on down so the pic would not be showing because I'm at work and wouldn't want anyone to see the pic and get the wrong idea about what I'm looking at because everyone at work knows I'm a Christian.

Also I just want to say that I have never reported anyone for their pics even though I'm very conservative. That being said, reporting does happen by conservatives and not so conservatives alike. I've even been reported. So people need to keep that in mind when they start pointing fingers (so to speak) at people who report others. It's not just the conservatives who do it.

I TOTALLY get and RESPECT what you are saying, however, not EVERYTHING that was pulled was explicit or risque. But, I am not one to determine which thing pictures can stay and which should go. No! Mine was not a thong and neither was a friends who was completely clothed, lol. But, I'm not the shot caller, so I will post only acceptable ones from now on.

Well the pic itself is an ad thats on MFP,I was mostly curious about people that have an issue with the close up butt shots if they have an issue with the ads too.As for people reporting that is a whole diffrent thread and not the intent of my OP,but alot of people seem to be pretty upset today .
Thank you for giving me answer to my question. Im gonna assume that since your scrolled past the pic I posted you are not comfortable with the ads as well when you are work and thats all I really wanted to know.

Yes. Unfortunately protesting censorship on the internet isn't going to change things or get people their pics back. I have issue too with having people's pics removed completely from their profile. They should be able to share with friends if it is potentially too risque to share in their profile pic.

if i got an ad like that on my sidebar, i'd close the window and reopen it so something else popped up. you don't really have that option with profile pics (although i've never reported one, there are some that make me uncomfortable). my ads are for things like organic dog food, ivory soap, colorado athletic club, and ann taylor loft.
