Boy George; "Do you really want to hurt me", the song isn't sad. it's sad that so many people liked this song.

    DeVotchka-- How It Ends.

This song accidentally made it's way onto a playlist at a party of mine, and by the end of the song, everyone was bawling their eyes out.

Heard going to love you through it Monday night, beautiful song! I love Martina McBride, "In my Daughters Eyes" is another great tear jerker, though not really sad, Now my daughter at 16 sings it, and I get even more emotional lol.

Also agree with How Great Thou Art sung by Carrie Underwood I get chills just thinking about it.

    And of course the Dance!!

    Great picks!
I'm gonna love you through it- Martina McBride.. My grandma had breast cancer, so this song really hits home.
Holes in the floor of Heaven- Steve Wariner, BEAUTIFUL song if you have never heard it.
How Great Thou Art- the Carrie Underwood version
Probably wouldn't be this way- LeAnn Rimes

And my ALL time favorite, The Dance- Garth Brooks

"Flowers" by Chris Young. That's the winner, in my book.
  • I'd probaby pick Tears in Heaven, too. However, heard Hate Me Today recently and that one got me!

The question is simple... what's the ONE song that always tugs at your heart?

For me - Alison Krauss - Jacob's Dream (true story about 2 boys who wandered off into the woods, only to die).

I seriously wish I hadn't listened to this now. That is incredibly sad.

Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - Gordon Lightfoot

Being a "Sailor" this one kills me....

Yes. Beat me to it. Gets me every time I hear it.

Along with Coldplay's "The Scientist", I'll add "In My Place". Especially, the lines:

"I was scared, I was scared
    Tired and under prepared
    But I wait for it

And if you go, if you go
Leave me down here on my own
    And I'll wait for you"

Sometimes it's the lyrics that get me, other times it's the feeling with which the song is sung.

Another nod to Ben Folds "Brick" and the Gary Jules version of "Mad World"
    Ben Folds "Still Fighting It"
Otis Redding "I've Been Loving You Too Long" (Fuuuuuuuuuuuuugh, this song gives me the chills.)
Amy Winehouse "Love is a Losing Game"
    The Cure "Letter to Elise"
    Weezer "Say it Ain't So"

I love me a sad song. *sniffle*

Cinderella- Steve Curtis Chapman http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrWMBC6yoME&ob=av2n (he wrote it for his daughter who died)
Josh Groban- You Raise Me Up (played at my uncles funeral)
    Fix you- Coldplay
