One that I listened to today is Landslide, I like the Smashing Pumpkins version and the Stevie Nicks version.
One that makes me cry is Perfect by Pink as I have a son with learning difficulties and I sing it to him, because he's perfect to me ;-)

I listen to Perfect every single morning on the treadmill (uneditd for me, lol) then sing the edited version to my girls at bedtime because I NEVER want them to feel like I always have...

BUT, the saddest song is Permanent by David Cook.

"Love Me" by Collin Raye (It's an old country song that my Grandma had played at her funeral)

Totally agree! Haven't heard it in a while, but when I do I always cry!

  • I'm not much of a country music fan because I'm a big cry baby. I cry at a lot of songs already posted and I didn't read all the posts so these two might be on there too. I have no idea why but I can cry just talking about these two songs, I don't even have to hear them.

Where've You Been - Kathy Mattea
Don't take the girl- Tim McGraw

This makes me think of my husband's step mother during the first stages of dementia. When she was lucid enough to know what was wrong and that it would only get worse as it goes on. She and my Father in law were so in love and this line made me want to ball every time I heard it, because I could just hear her saying this.. "If I lay here.. if I just lay here would you lay with me and just forget the world.. forget what we're told.. before we are too old". Okay, I'm tearing up just typing this.

    1) don't take the girl (Tim McGraw)
2)the last kiss (J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers/Pearl Jam)

don't listen to much newer music but for being one who is not known for showing emotion those two always bring a tear

Europe - "The Final Countdown"

It's not sad, per se, but hearing it makes me want to kill myself, and that is sad.

No one dies, but it's about the real life disappointment of thinking you had a real friend/lover, and finding out otherwise.

you are my sunshine, the entire song.

The other night dear, as I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you in my arms
But when I awoke, dear, I was mistaken
So I hung my head and I cried.

    [Chorus]
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

I'll always love you and make you happy,
If you will only say the same.
But if you leave me and love another,
You'll regret it all some day:

    [Chorus]

You told me once, dear, you really loved me
And no one else could come between.
    But now you've left me and love another;
You have shattered all of my dreams:

    [Chorus]

In all my dreams, dear, you seem to leave me
When I awake my poor heart pains.
So when you come back and make me happy
I'll forgive you dear, I'll take all the blame.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

The question is simple... what's the ONE song that always tugs at your heart?

For me - Alison Krauss - Jacob's Dream (true story about 2 boys who wandered off into the woods, only to die).

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwaZXUlFsyo

"Let It Be" By The Beatles.......NOT Sad; Very Thought Provoking and Humbling.
"Sadie" By The Spinners...This one pulls My Heart because it is about "A Great Mother" which I too had and miss. When it comes on the radio, I always turn, can't take it.
