How Do You Feel About The Flu Shot?

I myself am highly upset that everyone here is being forced to take a flu shot regardless of whether you want it or not. It's either take it or lose your job- I have never taken one and I don't want one! What are your thoughts about the flu shot?

I get one every year, my son has asthma and his ped suggested it.0 -
It's the responsible thing to do.0

I feel much better about getting a flu shot then the actual flu, so go get one. It won't hurt anything, I can tell you that with certainty.0
-
I get one every year!! Although, I don't know how I feel about being forced to get one unless you work in the medical or education field.0
-
I've never been forced to. I think for the minor inconvenience it is worth the precaution. I hate when I am too sick to keep fit, and I have a newborn, so the choice is obvious to me.0
-
I probably won't be getting one, but I would if I needed to. Although, if I were forced to get one by my employer I probably wouldn't be a very happy camper. I don't like to be forced to do anything LOL.0

Get the flu and you will wish you had taken the shot.0

Never had one as far back as I can remember.
Whatever happened to the swine flu anyway? Or was that just here?
I remember lines and lines of people in every city, goin to get swine flu shots or some garbage.
Pigs are better off gettin a kiwiburger shot.0 -
I never got a flu shot until I actually had the flu. NEVER want to do that again - that was the worst week of my entire life.0
-
I don't like flu shots. I've never had one in my life. My kids don't get them. My husband doesn't get it. My family got the H1N1 last year, and we survived. We felt miserable for a little while, slept a lot, drank lots of water and vegged out together, took our fever meds, and got over it. We relied on our immune systems, and they worked just the way they were supposed to.
The flu shot isn't even guaranteed to work. It's a guess. Loaded with a mega dose of mercury. Mmmmm. Delightful. Don't you dare throw out one of those mercury light bulbs in the regular trash, but let's all be forced to get a shot full of mercury? Doesn't seem right to me...0 -

Same here. My daughter has severe asthma and she was hospitalized for 5 days last year. Her doctor recommended that we all get a flu shot to keep us all healthy.0 -
I dont get the shot, and i would hate to be forced to have one.0
-
I get the flu shot every year too, it only causes a little temporary soreness, much better than the flu.0

I was never a fan of getting flu shots until a coworker got H1N1 aka Swine Flu. She was SOOOOO VERRRRY sick she thought she was going to actually die.
Seeing how that was for her was enough to convince me.
If you are around ANY young children, elderly people or anyone with a compromised health condition get the flu shot for them.
You may be healthy enough to fight back/recover when you get the flu but you could also be spreading it to others less fortunate before you even know you are carrying it.0 -
I don't get them. My kids and I usually get the flu, and to everyone who says that's impossible I have this story.
Last time my oldest got the flu shot was when he was 3, no one at his daycare had the flu or flu like symptoms, and no one my wife or I worked/interacted with had the flu or flu like symptoms. 2 or 3 weeks after getting the shot, he has the flu all Thanksgiving weekend. Since we stopped getting the flu shots, no one in my family has been that sick ever again, and we are going on 5 years.
Knock on wood....
We get the common cold a few times a year (and a special thank you to all the parents who treat their children as fashion accessories and send Little Suzy/Johnny to school with runny nose/fever), but we have yet to get the flu as a result of not getting the flu shot.
What is it you do that they can make you get it or lose your job? There are some jobs where it is a requirement.0 -

all of my family get the flu shot. my dh works in a factory with many people. I am a school bus driver exposed to everything. our 2 children are in college, again exposed to everything. none of us have ever had the flu.0

I think it sucks that you're being forced to get one.
I never get flu shots, but I never get sick. The people I stay with get sick every year around this time and it always skips me. I am invincible! :laugh:0 -

You can still spread the flu, even if you aren't sick from the strand you may have in your system.0 -

not at all impossible. and only somewhat unsual, obviously for you and yours flu vax are NOT good. Many people can not take them with out some kind of reaction ranging from allergic to getting the flu , or flu like symptoms. if the vax becomes worse than the disease than it is in the patients best interest to discontinue0 -
I get one every year w/out fail. Hey, I'm no doctor so I do what the doctor recommends!0
-
No, thanks. I don't so much have a problem with the vaccine itself, it's the other stuff that concerns me. Like thimerosal, squalene, mercury, formaldehyde. And there's no guarantee the strain you get inoculated against will be the one you could possibly get infected with. The last time I got the flu was in 1994 after I got a flu shot.
I know someone who is about to have a baby who told her parents and in-laws that if they wanted to see the baby they would need to get flu and hepatitis shots. If she said that to me, I guess I wouldn't be seeing the baby for a while. That seemed pretty overreactionary to me.0 -
I get the flu almost every year that I don't get the shot. That being said, I haven't missed getting the shot in about 5 or 6 years.
I love the flu shot. When I get the flu, I miss work for about a week, and I don't have time for that. When I get the flu shot, my arm is sore for about a day and a half, but I go on about my business without missing a beat.
I sincerely hope that when my coworkers get sick, they will stay home. If they want to work, that's fine, but I just ask that they work from home and refrain from sneezing all over the place at the office.
I am generally not a germophobe, but I do keep some hand sanitizer on my desk, because I am one of those people that catches everything. I do what I can to avoid cold and flu germs.0 -
I've never had one. I'm pro vax in general but it's pretty much impossible to keep up with the flu. Plus it's not that serious. I have some lingering asthma which causes me to frequently get bronchitis after I get something like the flu, and I still don't bother.0
-
I have a special needs daughter, so I get one every year. I can understand your being upset, but I have mixed feelings. If you work in the health care industry or with children, I highly recommend it.0

I do work in a hospital but still....it has always been our choice as to whether we wanted one or not. The Dr.'s will argue all day that it doesn't make you sick but there are certain people who seem to get the flu after having the shot. I mean what if the strand isn't dead? What if the guess is wrong and you get the flu anyway? The side effects are cold/flu like symptoms.. I'm not really argueing their point but I don't even take tylenol-I have suffered through pain several times- I just don't like putting things into my body. One day I may regret feeling that way but its just how I feel.
The whole swine flu shot came out immediately-I just don't think they really had enough time to test it.
My only way out is a written excuse from my doctor which I contacted toay LOL, I highly doubt that he will approve that but it was worth a try for the sake of my job I will take it and if I do get ill-someone will hear about it!! I mean that in a nice way!0 -
I don't need the flu shot yet. I have a pretty decent immunity to the flu. I'd either never had the flu before I was 30 or I had such mild symptoms that I didn't realize it. I figure once I actually need it, then I'll get it. I don't care what other people do with their bodies.0

sounds like a good mom to me0 -
I haven't had it in 10 years and I have yet to get the flu.
That's wrong you're being forced!0 -
