Underwear in pictures?

    My thoughts on the issue:

    1. Having modesty and class do not make someone a "puritan" or "prude".

    2. I don't think it takes seeing so much skin to see progress. We can tell if someone has lost a lot of weight and has become more fit when they are wearing regular clothes.

    3. I really don't want to see someone's underwear or that much of the person's body. And I don't get why people assume others want to see it.

    4. If it isn't a picture I'd want my kids and their friends, my parents and their friends, my neighbors, my boss and co-workers, or a hundred strangers on a website to see, then I wouldn't post it online, especially knowing that anyone could use the photo for purposes you never intended, without your permission.

    5. People can show off their new fit and sexy bodies without near nudity to prove it. If underwear shots of yourself motivates you, wonderful, but why assume everyone wants to see it? Just saying...

I don't see anything wrong with posting them. That said-- it's kind of thoughtless to make it your profile pic. If your friends want to see them, that's fine. But if it bothers people, and you know that, and you make it your profile pic, they're kind of forced to see it, in the forums, etc. That seems a little thoughtless to me. Just sayin'. :)

Most of the ppl in underwear its like they are wearing a bikini. So I think whatever. Its not like they are wearing risky underwear.

    No risky underwear!

Hmm, wear at your own risk?

I don't have a problem with people showing their undies. Personally I wouldn't do it, because I believe that, that particular part of me is for my husband's eyes only (yeah I know call me Mrs. Prude...lol). But I totally get how you'd be proud and want to show it and for someone who's not as modest as I am, it's a great avenue.

I just hate ugly underwear. If you are going to have underwear pics, wear the underwear you want the hospital to see if you were in an accident.

This!! Or underwear that is NOT from Frederick's of Hollywood/entirely lace/g-string. There have been some lacy panty booty shots where if it were not for MFPs crappy pic quality, you'd totally see sphincter.

Good to know someone is inspecting all the pictures that closely.

I don't have a problem with with them. As has been said, it's no different than wearing a bathing suit, just let's keep the poses something you wouldn't be embarrassed to have your mother or your employer see.

    Just my two cents...

    My thoughts:

"Modesty"-- while a fine choice for anyone if that is their preference-- does not automatically equal "class".

Let's switch it around. As a male, if I want to show my progress of turning skinny into well built and muscley, would I be able to convey that in pictures without taking my top off?
Plus, I'm not sure how a before and after of a woman in underwear/bikini/whatever showing their weight loss is something that they'd not want to show their kids/boss whatever. It's hardly shameful.

Most of my underwear covers more than my bikini. :blushing: But this summer, anyone driving past my yard (corner lot, busy street) could see me wearing that going to or from the pool or when floating on a raft, so why should I be embarrassed to show it on any website?

Having class or modesty doesn't make one a prude. But being comfortable in your skin doesn't mean you have no class or modesty, either.

95x95 pixels of anything shouldn't offend anyone.

And as far as "people walking by my computer at work?" I'm not so sure your bosses want you surfing MFP on their clock anyway, whether or not there's near-nudity.

Guys with baggy pants and exposed boxers make me cringe, too. I think of the prison population (where I'm told the trend started) advertising themselves for sex.

Yes, the baggy pants started with the prison population, but not as an advertisement for sex. Contraband is easier to hide in clothes that are too big.

I agree. But let's not pretend that posing in underwear at this site is classy either.

So posing in underwear = no class? Full stop?

I don't mind/care if others post underwear pictures but personally, no. I have this idea constantly haunting me all the time that everything you post on the internet is permanent and this is a site open to anyone, so who knows how many people are clicking on your underwear pictures and doing a \save as C:\mycomputer. (people don't even need to log on to gain access to the forums and people's pictures).

I agree that being comfortable in your skin doesn't mean you have no class or modesty, but would you walk around outside where people could see you in your underwear? Most people wouldn't, but have no problem with posting pictures of it here. Maybe I'm the only one who thinks on some level that there is a difference between underwear and swimwear, regardless of the exposure.

Maybe it's because I'm an artist, but I see nothing shameful about the human form.

Someone could be totally nude and look classy. And they could be fully dressed and still look trashy.

Case in point, Sports Illustrated's "Body" issue: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/espn-body-issue-athletes-naked-covers-gallery-1.966871

(Warning: Lots of skin and beautiful bodies, tastefully shown, but NSFW or sensitive eyes.)

I agree and that was a point I was trying to make. On some level, "underwear" just communicates something more intimate than swimwear. I know it doesn't necessarily make sense.

But underwear (which is the topic of this particular post) somehow communicates something more intimate than swimwear, and I don't think my teenage son would appreciate any of his friends seeing his mom in her underwear (assuming I even had a nice body to show off), knowing it was a bra and panties and not a swimsuit. Same with a boss or co-workers. Do you see the difference?

For the purposes of showing progress with weight loss or becoming more fit, people may think underwear pictures are appropriate for this forum, but my point is that MFP members may not be the only ones seeing them.

It depends on the bra & undies. A sports bra and boyshorts isn't the same thing as a lacy pushup, g-string and thigh highs.

I usually say 'less is more'

And I'm still saying it now.

Less underwear is more? Ok, I'll def remember that...

    Yes.
We are on the same page.

Oh good, I'm so glad we're on the same page!

Maybe I'm weird, but I actually prefer the former (maybe a tank T instead of a sports bra, but you get the idea).

It does remind me of funny cartoon strip in an old MAD magazine I read as a kid. I think it was one of the Dave Berg strips.

A man pulls open the door of a changing cabana and there is a young woman in her bra and panties. She screams and covers up--he slinks away red-faced and embarrassed. The next panel shows her flinging the changing door open with a flourish, and standing there beaming with pride -- in a two piece bathing suit that covered much less than the original underwear.

    I guess context is everything.

When I started, I took a pic in my underwear..But I won't be putting it up, yet..Main reason is because people will probably think that I have no undies on because of my big belly...I'm thinking that once I get to my goal of 100kgs then I will post them in my profile....
