So I was watching sunrise this morning, And they were talking about a new craze happening with "I am single" wristbands!

The point is you wear them and it allows people to know that you are single or not. www.singlebandshop.com/

Is this a little bit desperate or is this something you would try??

I'm not single, but there's no way I would wear an "I'm single" band if I was. No way. I can see the creeps and freaks that would flock towards any woman with one of these on.

I didn't look at the site, but I can see the appeal. So many people these days are in committed relationships but aren't married and don't wear rings. It can be difficult to know if someone else is single, especially as you get older. In the US after the last census there has even been talk of adding a category for couples who live together (with or without children) but are not married, because there are so many.

Islanders typically wear a flower in one ear to symbolize if they are single, and the other ear to symbolize "taken". What's the big deal?
  • I figure if someone wants to know if I am single -- they will take the time to get to know me, or ask me point blank. I would respect that a lot more than the games. I don't try to announce my relationship status to the whole world.

I think it clears up a lot of confusion. Many people are afraid of rejection, but if they know that other person is telling the world "they are single", it may encourage an otherwise shy person to start up a conversation. No one is making you do anything.

You mean like the one that my husband doesn't wear because he lost a crap-ton of weight?

Or the one that I'm going to lose down the shower drain if I keep trying to wear it despite it being too big for me?

I don't know, I don't think I would wear one, but then again, knowing my single friends, I can see why it might be nice....

    No way!

I would just be me, and like attracts like. Before long that void would be filled, but I'd never go to any "singles" functions or advertise myself like a side of beef.

  • Would it even work? .....I got hit on more when I was married and wearing a wedding ring, basically yelling "TAKEN!"

I love that all of the married people are chiming in. Too funny!
  • I would think that a wedding band would indicate 'not single' :)

I don't think it's desperate but I wouldn't like it being an in thing if I were single. It removes one element of challenge the 'hunt' ;P

There's a beach in Italy where where you sun bake is an indication of how 'up for it' you are. The closer to the water you are the more receptive you are to interest.

There's always a couple of trollops sun baking right on the wet sand lol
  • I don't think it's desperate. Why be ashamed of being single? It's not like it screams, "I'm single and hate it! Marry me now!" I'm sure a good number of the single folks on here saying it's desperate are the same ones logging onto Match.com (or whatever your singles site is).
