i got fat because thru all 4 pregnancies i just ate whatever i wanted and didn't worry about it. after the third i started to workout and ended up prego with number 4. now that i am done i am ready and have been losing without fear of having another one. lol it took 11 years to get to my biggest and hoping it doesn't take that long to return to as close to before weight as i can.

I am fat because of two pregnancies. Even thought I lost all the weight from number one... Its like some one hot glued the weight on me. I have a husband who loves to eat crap food and buys it for me too... Pretty much, I have no self control and need to learn to say no. Plus working out with two kids is hard. No day care at the gym. (Not that I could afford that) Husband works any hours the army tells him. I know excuses...

To much food not enough exercise, to much time studying and working and frankly being to lazy, without the motivation and a mountain of "good" reasons not to do anything about it.

Studying is over, the excuses are being shot down in flames, change of attitude required.

Started to get migraines often which led to no activity or social life and then gradually got depression and just wasn't in a good mind set to even care what I was eating so started to overeat. Eating for the moment was one of the things that would make me feel better but of course not long term, then once I started to work on my health I ran into problems because of how out of shape I was so then I just felt hopeless for awhile and started not to care again. I'm glad to say I'm over a lot of the mood swings but I have developed anxiety and panic attacks over time.

I got pregnant at 19 with my son and thought "eh, the weight will just fall off. I'm young anyway." Well...turns out 50 pounds doesn't "just fall off" My goal is to hit 149...that's the weight I was the day I went to the doctor for my pregnancy check up. Then I want to tone up ...which is what I was doing before I found out I was pregnant.

Ps --- that was all 6 years ago. Talk about procrastinator!

I am fat because I cant seem to find my moderation happy place. I am always either being religiously good and eating well, exercising regularly and losing weight or being lazy, not working out, eating conveniently and binging before bed. sigh.

I know what to do, just cant make myself do it all the time. as long as I can make myself do it more than not...

My fatness was an accident... I think. It just sorta happen. No traumatic life experiences or anything.

Then I think it's also a little self sabotage. It's nice to have something to blame for not doing well in things. For example, I used to do pageants so I always blamed my weight on not winning.

I've been overweight/ obese my entire life. =( I remember dr's telling me when I was little I had to stop eating so much.. Then when I was 14 I was 140 lbs.. that was bad too, I remember going to the dr and they told me I was overweight. It went on around 16 I was pushing 160.. then my Senior year of high school when they asked us our weight for our Cap and Gowns.. I put 170. =( I weighed myself and I was getting close to 190. I was worried my gown wouldn't fit. Now at 20 years old..I started at 214. I cried when I saw that! I understand why I'm fat. I never did anything.. This past year has been our first year on our own (roommates) paying our own bills.. I work and we walk to the beach and stuff.. but we ate horribly! $.99 pizza.. about 450 cal. ea. Doritos.. Ramen.. Chocolate Milk was a big thing for me.. I ate whatever I wanted.. I knew and told myself 'this is making you fat'.. There were several times from when I was 14 through now where I tried writing down my food, I never did it right.. I've tried dieting.. I was in a big family we ate.

I could draw out my story longer.. =p Basically I ate what I wanted.. didn't care. I have a very 'big' family.. I refuse to be 'big' myself.

I don't know! I was born chubby and I have been proportionally this size my whole life, stopped gaining weight when I hit 20 I guess. Then stayed around 185-195 until NOW. By BMI says that I am OBESE as well, which is stupid. I never liked exercise and I love fast food and sugary things. Walking is BORING and eating broccoli is BORING without the cheese... haha... I'm a fan of indulgence, so if something is delicious I just can't help myself...

Since I started using MFP, I've learned to control my portions. I still eat what I like but a reasonable amount and I [mostly] stay within my calorie allowance. And YES I still like to indulge but then I just work off those extra calories... on a good day.. haha...

I had undignosed hypothyroidism for severl years before it was dignosed. I would cycle every morning and good meals not crap and I would still gain weight. By the time they found out the problem I had gained over 50lbs then I took sick again and was put on stiroid medication and gained another 30 pounds or more.

I am not lazy when I feel well I work out. I have always eaten good so food was not my problem just my body ( health issues and medications that were the gaining weight problem for me)

Emotional/Stress eating. I have been fighting an autoimmune disease for the last year and become obsessed with fixing myself. Plus my home bases art business did double the sales of last year. Trying to juggle that and two small kids led to a lot of stress. Finally recognized I had a problem and found exercise and MFP. No more binging for me! Good luck to you!

I also struggle with an auto immune, I have psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis! finding that eating better is def helping though!

I got fat because I wanted to be ugly, I was 12 at the time, and after awhile it became a habit to eat whenever.

Plain and simple... Because I ate too damn much! Poor decisions, I didn't care. Because of my own bad eating habit... Not anymore though! Eating habits have changed, my body is following those changes!!

I think you could say I just stopped caring and/or in denial. I knew I was eating too much. I knew I was inactive. I just didn't seem to care. I've struggled with weight since I was a pre-teen/teenager. But when I hit about 22, I just started putting on lots of weight. I managed to lose about 50 pounds before I got married, but after the wedding I went back to eating whatever I wanted and as much as I wanted -- and that was a lot of extra calories. I ended up gaining the 50 pounds back plus another 73 pounds.

Being conscious of my calorie intake has been REALLY helpful. I honestly think I wouldn't be as successful as I've been if it weren't for MFP. Unfortunately, I'll probably need to stick to logging my foods for quite awhile even after I've hit my goal.

I think the main reason why I gained all this weight was to cope with society. I grew up fat and as a child, I had always been fat. So I thought it was normal at first because I had never been a thin woman. However, the weight shields me from society. I have a love/hate relationship with my weight. I loved how people ignored me and how men ignored me, but at the same time I wanted to be seen as beautiful and have boyfriends and stuff. I also had two eating disorders, and bad body image and depression.

Since I was so depressed and unhappy, I ate and didnt care really. A lot of bad situations happened in my life and I used food to cope with it. I was in depression for about 3 years and I had severe anxiety disorders, so I had a lot of mental problems. I also was battling bulimia and binge eating disorder. It was really hard to tackle those issues, but they are more in control these days.

I knew it was time to change when I looked at a picture of myself and I realized that I didnt recognize the person in those pictures. It was as if my whole body didnt match my mentality. So I knew that if I was gonna be truly happy and get the things I want out of life that I would have to lose all the weight that has held me back for so long.

O, let's see. After high school (superfit, but stocky...I guess is what you would call my build then), I went on to college and stopped exercising...I am a nerd and studied a LOT. Went on to grad school and continued to gain. Started LA Weightloss in 2003 and lost 80 pounds in aout 6 months. Stayed at about 175-180 for a couple years until in 2006 I had a miscarriage. This lead to major league depression and the dr put me on Lexapro. Got pregnant in August 2006 and Dr kept me on Lexapro. I gained about 10 pounds a month from the day I started Lexapro until my son was born in April 2007. Lost a little weight on maternity leave, but the dr did not want me to exercise until after I went back to work. High stress job and long hours at a desk put the weight back on. (High was 292). Lost my job in 2010...another bout of major depression. Then got a terrible job in late 2010, which I left in early 2012. Now waiting for a wonderful job to come along (in other words I now have some time on my hands and can exercise. Have to focus every day, but I am gonna kick these extra pounds to the curb! Long story short, if you have depression, don't just try to medicate it...talk to someone who is trained to help you. Too many drs just push the F'ing pills these days! Sometimes they are needed, but fixing the underlying issue is MUCH BETTER...everything else is just treating symptoms.
  • I went on anti-depressants that really packed on the pounds. Between the ages of 13 and 17 I gained 50 pounds. I also was very lazy and never exercised, plus I ate, and ate and ate! Now I've lost 45 pounds and am almost back to my weight before high school! Woohoo.
  • I'm not lazy, so that's not why...I've always been active...lol...I'm fat from years of horrible eating habits that no amount of cardio or weight lifting could ever fix...I'm a southern girl...I love fried chicken, bicsuits and my sweet tea. I've become a vegetarian and now love fresh fruits and vegetables and I feel amazing...Seriously, a good diet is the best medicine. i rarely get sick or feel sluggish anymore.
