Most annoying comments people make about dieting

I've got to admit, as annoying as some comments are they do keep me motivated to keep going to reach my goal. Kind of a "I'll show you" mentality I suppose!!!0

People who make snarky comments about fast food + diet soda.0

Ooops double post!! :blushing:0

I have not once told people that I'm on a diet. Because I'm not.
My diet is what I eat on a regular basis - I'm following Canada's food guide. That's what I tell people, and they don't give me a hard time about what I eat. Most people tell me to eat more, actually. xD0 -
Oooops triple post! :blushing::blushing:0

muscles look horrible on women
^^ this. Another of my most annoying comments I get from other women0 -
"You're going to blow away with the wind." Uh, no. I'm still 20 pounds into the "overweight" category. You've just never seen me this small.
OMG This is so my co-workers! They've seen how much I've lost already and now they are bugging me about losing more. I'm still overweight people!!!
Also I hate when people say they want me to help motivate them, so I ask them to join in our daily 1 mile walks on breaktime, and they "are too busy", or "it's too cold". EVERYTIME. Obviously they don't want to be motivated, so STOP ASKING.0 -
"Oh, you've lost weight. It won't last."
Similarly, "I lost a lot of weight too, but I put it all back on. You probably will too."
"You've lost a lot of weight. Did you mean to? Are you sick?"
And quite possibly my favourite, "how did you lose the weight?" Well, by eating more fruit more veg and less junk and moving more, to which I almost always receive a disappointed, "oh."0 -
Them: 'What diet are you doing?'
Me: 'Just tracking my calories.'
Them: Oh, I heard (insert whatever fad diet here) works way better than that!'
You can't eat that, you're on a diet (I want to respond with I shouldn't punch you in the face, but I might!)
Everytime I come back from lunch at work, ten people ask me what I ate. Seriously, why don't you worry about yourself and not me??
I have really tried hard this time to just not let people know, hence being on these boards alot more often!0 -
Co-worker #1 - OMG you are so skinny! What size are you now?
*Note - I am effing 180 lbs and she is maybe 120 lbs ... WTF is wrong with her?
Co-worker #2 - Do you ever eat?
*Note - No b*tch, I don't.. so get like me.. WTF
Co-worker #3 - Girl you need a hamburger because you can't get smaller than me!
*Note - WAKE UP you conceited wh0re; I am already smaller than you. WTF
Hubby - Your @ss is so flat now I could do laundry on it...
*Note - well, most of the men in my office enjoy my new, smaller @ss.. and since when do you do laundry anyway?!?!
:laugh:0 -
"muscle weighs more than fat"
errr, no it doesn't!
Uh... yes it does.
That is why you burn more calories when you carry around more lean muscle. Don't let the whole "pound for pound" argument confuse you. Lean muscle is heavier than fat!0 -
"You look like you need a cheeseburger" Really? Because that wasn't sending me towards a heart attack before, right? http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/mzenzer
"You are skinny enough" Seriously? Skinny? Can you see bones? I'm 6'1" 195 pounds by what criteria is that "skinny"?
"Your clothes are falling off of you, gain some weight back". Yes, genius, that's what happens when you lose 40+ pounds and are still wearing some of your extra large shirts and 34in waist jeans. Getting a new wardrobe is expensive, but that's not a reason to fill the clothes out.
I think the most glaring thing about how others see you after losing some weight is not what they say, it's that they say anything at all, and at that time what they say and how they say it. When I was walking into my office 50 lbs heavier, cholesterol of 264 (not that they could see that) no body said a damn thing. No, we are worried about you. You don't look healthy, etc. But when you actually get healthy (195lbs and 157 cholesterol) then all the comments like the above start flowing. I guess our social standards just prevent people from speaking their mind from fear of insulting someone when they are not doing good, but have no problem with indirectly, or even directly, insulting someone when they are actually doing some good things.0 -

I hate when people do the concerned thing even though they can clearly see that I'm not too thin and still have weight to lose. "Do you ever eat?! What have you eaten today?" is one I really hate. I eat just fine.
Or people that try to tell me I should be eating potatoes because it's really good for you. Yeah it might be good for you, but I have PCOS, I know what's good for *me* and potato is not it.0 -

A pound is a pound is a pound. One pound can't way more than another pound. You can fit more lean muscle in the same space as a little bit of fat, hence the reason that people say muscle weighs more than fat0 -
"Wow, you must have lost at least 100 lbs! Your looking good."
That comment always makes me think, how fat ugly did I look before? Not very motivational.0 -
My biggest HATE is when you first tell your friends and family you are going on a diet (Particularly because I have always had enough fat to warrant going on a diet).......
"OH YOU BE CAREFUL, I DON'T WANT YOU LOSING TOO MUCH WEIGHT AND BECOMING ANOREXIC"
I think this one is mainly down to jealousy but damn it's annoying. What about just saying "Good luck"
Grrrrr :mad:0 -

Two out of three aint bad! LOL!!!
1lb is 1lb is 1lb is 1lb0 -
"You're too young/skinny to be on a diet!"
I get this mostly from women who are very overweight themselves and 15+ years older then me.0 -
My mother-in-law called her son/my husband on Thanksgiving curious to know what we were having. All of the side dishes were all from scratch, much healthier versions and the turkey was stuffed with mirepoix, fresh lemons, herb-bundles, and I made sure to have one truly luscious and naughty dessert, and I also made a much healthier option for dessert for me.... His mother asked "when is she ever going to make you real food?"
I heard my husband tell her pretty damn blunt "if real vegetables, real herbs and real ingredients arent real food, what the hell are YOU eating, Mom?"
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Besides, my husband loves my homemade stuffing, he loves my cauliflower au-gratin, what the bloody hell does SHE care? This is a woman who has had two heart attacks, a stroke and refuses to change her eating habits per her doctor's instructions... She can kiss my a**!!!!0 -

LMAO!! That one kills me!0 -
When someone says.... "Losing Weight is so Hard"
Actually I think when I was 265, had trouble walking, couldn't find nice clothes that fit, refused to be in a picture..... That was the HARD PART... Getting thinnier is the easy part I think0 -
mine is, when someone asks me "what have you been doing to lose weight?". I say, I've cut back a little on my eating and I exercize. They look at me like i'm crazy and say "I get so tired of hearing that". Well, ITS TRUE!!! Weight loss is all about math. Calories in - Calories out. Simple as that!!!0
-
I hate when people judge what I eat...or if they don't say something, they give me the 'look'. I've had freinds/family that say stuff like, "Is that on your diet?" and I told them, "Well, first of all, this isn't a diet, it's a lifestyle. And second of all, you are one to talk--you don't know what a portion is or what healthy is, and THIRD of all, this is MY lifestyle, not yours. So if I want a piece of candy, or a chip, I'm going to eat it!" I work my *kitten* off daily and watch what I eat consistently. Yes, I may eat a cookie, but that probably means I watched what I ate the rest of the day. And just because I had one, does not mean I had 5.
"Muscle weighs more than fat"...um no, a pound is a pound...it just looks different.0 -
This is a "lifestyle change" does not really annoy me just makes me think they are switching teams
Im on a journy also does not annoy me i just think its a bit of an over dramatic way to describe it0 -
I get real annoyed when MFP closes out my day and people comment to nit pick on me using mayo or BBQ sauce even though I am short like 825 calories for the day!!!!
This has happened to me only a few times, but it sure is annoying....especially when THEY are over their calories for the day! If I am under and had a great day, dammit, I deserve some ketchup. I keep my diary open to my friends to hold myself accountable. Thankfully most of them are very supportive and helpful with their suggestions. Some though try to tear you down because they themselves aren't doing so hot.0 -
While yes, a pound of muscle equals a pound of fat, they are different in density. A pound of fat fills more volume than a pound of muscle, therefore if you have one pound of fat on your midsection it would be larger than if you had one pound of muscle in it's place.
To return to the topic, thankfully no one comments on my weight loss except to congratulate me. I think it might be because I'm known to not tolerate BS about a subject that I am well versed in. I'll point out fallacies, and provide sources if need be.0 -

Noooo! that is horrible that people on MFP would do that. It is not about completely cutting things out, it is about being smarter. We can have bad stuff sometimes (and mayo and BBQ sauce are not bad in and of themselves - just if it is a lot of it all the time)
This is years ago, but I knew I had gotten big when my grandmother went from "have some more of this (whatever food)" to "you don't need that."0
