How can I add oatmeal to my diet when I hate it?

You don't have to eat oats if you don't like them, replace it with another high-fiber high-iron foods. If you must, get some with different flavors, there are options that are low in sugar and come with maple, apple, and cinnamon flavor. You could also add walnuts or fruit to it.0

I have tried oatmeal in the past using the instant flavored kind and couldn't stand it no matter how thick/thin I tried it but because of the health benefits I wanted to try again and so tried with regular oats today adding in chopped almonds, skim milk, and honey. Yep, still hate it
What is the best way (other than those yummy cookies!!) to get oats into my diet without making them mushy?? If you've hated oatmeal in the past but can eat it now how did you do it??
But why?
I detest it as well and call it "puke-meal" - :grumble:
Life is to be lived, and if you just hate a certain food, don't eat it. There are too many good alternatives like Fiber 1, Quinoa, any kind of decent whole grain cereal like Grape Nuts or Nabisco Shredded Wheat...ect...Healthy alternatives could be another high fibre whole grain cereal, a big shake, meat/fish/cottage cheese + veg/fruit, eggs (omelette, poached, boiled, scrambled, whatever), PB on toast, protein pancakes, 'healthy' french toast, protein muffins/slices........ The list goes on.
Basically anything 'clean' that includes complex carbs, protein and fat makes a pretty good start to the day.
Eating should be a JOY!
Even when we're dieting....lol0 -
I can't imagine why you'd force yourself to eat them if you don't like them. Like someone else said, they aren't magic.
I'll NEVER eat cottage cheese, everyone swears it's healthy. I couldn't care less.0 -

Forgive me for not understanding why oatmeal is crucial to your weightloss / diet. If you hate it, don't eat it! There are a lot of ways to get in fiber and carbs without suffering through something you hate.0 -
1/4 cup oat meal (uncooked) add 1/2 cup hot water, add chocolate hazelnut butter (or any nut butter really), a serving of protein powder, and granola, it gets the texture of raw dough, not cheap calorie wise but tasty and filling. I eat if for breakfast around 9 and generally don't get hungry again until 1-20

Make some muffins.
Or add an egg and bake it like a cookie! :laugh:0 -
you don't necessarily HAVE to eat it0
-
I put brown sugar in mine.
Never liked them as a kid, ate a lot of cream of wheat though.
I add them to my yogurt too.
Maybe Cheerios would be a better "health" choice food?0 -
Make oatmeal cookies. Life's too short (and there are too many healthy foods out there) to eat s#** you hate.
Agreed!0 -

I make bean burgers. Basically equal parts beans and rolled oats. You can add spices, herbs, onions or other veggies to the mix. Use non-stick (fat free) cooking spray instead of oil to grill them in a pan. The oats hold the beans together and they keep well all. week.
Yummy!! you smash it all together?0 -
I'm not sure I understand the point of eating something you don't like? There's nothing in oats that can't be found in some other food.
This. I don't eat anything I do not like.0 -
My daughter eats the flavored packets...maple and brown sugar....DRY!!!! DiSgUsTiNg!!!!0

Make oatmeal pancakes. You can us flavor instant oatmeal and add milk or water tell it is pancake texture. Eat plain or jelly
That's a really great idea. I'm going to have to buy some oats and try this. I LOVE pancakes...but know they're not the best option when trying to eat healthier. Thanks for the suggestion.0 -

Here is a recipe I came up with that I like, and I hate oatmeal too. Just play around with ideas. I also have a pumpkin pie one that I add 1/2 cup of pumpkin(I use Libby's) and a teaspoon of all spice and nutmeg with 2 ro 3 dashs of cinnamon.
And I use the quick oats on week days and old fashion on weekend due to time in the morning for work0 -
I personally add cinnimon, a little brown sugar, and some raisins. Sometimes a splash of milk to thin it. Fast, filling and healthy. Helps with my cholesterol too. Hopefully you can find a way to prepare it so that you like it.0
-
Also, in regards to the instant kind, I eat mine dry. No liquids at all.0
-
Make some muffins.
That was exactly my suggestion! You can add banana, strawberries, or any other fruit in our recipe! Yummy!0 -
You can get oatmeal bread, that might be a bit more tasty for you.0

No bake oatmeal bars. There's some recipes here: http://www.askmen.com/sports/foodcourt_200/244_protein-bar-recipes.html0

UNDER-COOK IT!
I'm sooo serious, it tastes really good. :P
It won't look like oatmeal and definately doesn't have the same feel to it when you eat it, but the flavor is great.
I know it sounds wierd but I recommend you at least try it.0 -
I make granola out of my oats because oatmeal is too slimy eat. Same oats, same nutrients, same calories, no nasty slime. If you'd like a recipe, PM me and I'll send it to you.0

I'm with the other poster who says why eat oatmeal if you don't like it! I hate fish - in fact I had any type of seafood. I will not touch it. I find other healthy things to eat instead.0
-
Porridge instead of Oatmeal! 40g of Oats, 150ml of Semi-skimmed/Skimmed milk on the hob until it's creamy. Absolutely delicious for only 180 calories plain! I usually top mine off with raisins, half a teaspon of cinnamon and half a teaspoon of brown sugar.0
-
Pepridge farm oatmeal bread. I hate oatmeal too, and I like the bread.0
-
Sounds like its mainly the texture you hate? Try steel cut or old-fashioned oats. The textures are totally different from the quick cook kind.
Make some home made granola and use it as a topping for fresh berries or yogurt (or both, in the form of a parfait).0 -
My answer is, don't add it then.
No sense eating those calories when you hate them when you could actually use those cals on something you like.0 -
If you don't like it, don't eat it, I wouldn't force myself to eat somthing I didn't like, make other choices.......0
-
exactly!0
