    If you are using cardio equipment at a gym - go ahead and take the calories burned from the machine - it should be close if you program your age before your workout. If you are not using any electronic gym equipment you will need to purchase a heartrate monitor. They are awesome. I have one made by Polar. You can get them online at Amazon.com for relatively cheap, $60...
