Are you a GYM IDIOT?

Yup...Its the only time I can get a work out in...and I do not sweat a lot (thank goodness) and I don't stink....so yup....
I had a roommate once that also thought she didn't stink...
...the stench was overwhelming.0 -
Gym idiots, erm, people who are overly proud of poor form and people posing in the mirror, big no no0
-
I don't really understand why it's bad to wear makeup to the gym.
It makes people who already feel self-conscious more self conscious about their appearance. We should really all just wash it all off, for the benefit of ugly ladies who want to be in ugly company while they work out.
  :laugh:0 -
I couldn't care less what anyone else does in the gym..you want to read on the bike, hold on to the top of the treadmill while you walk, grunt til you puke, drop 10lb weights, sit on he bench and text..don't care as long as you don't interfere with my workout...it's all good.0
-
The version of "Gym Idiot" I encounter is when trying to job on the track. Wanna walk 3-4 wide & block both the WALKING and JOGGING lane? At least listen for the joggers. There is a thick white line dividing, with WALKING stenciled on one side and JOGGING stenciled on the other side every quarter-lap.
The other is the one in the weight room giving me unsolicited advice when he has no idea what the goal of my workout is. Might be the smartest one in there but without knowing my goals he can't properly advise me.

I think we go to the same gym...lol0 -
Grunters. Seriously, dude (no offense, but I've heard women doing this), I didn't make that much noise during my (unintentionally) natural delivery.
People who cannot be bothered to wipe down the machine after they use it when the gym provides disinfectants about every 5'.
People who talk on their cell phones for more than a minute while s-l-o-w-l-y moving. Get off the machine, give others a chance to use it. You are not working out. I get that some people are on call, etc., but if your call is going to last any length of time, move on already.
People who spread their stuff all over the only available bench left in the locker room and/or sit their butt-naked self down there. Get a towel! They're free.
I actually just wrote a blog post about this.
And, I'm guilty of the makeup thing. When I workout after work as opposed to before work, I change in my office, race to the gym, and then race home to get home on time so my babysitter doesn't get bent out of shape. When I workout in the morning, I am a disaster.0 -
inconsiderate people who do not wipe their sweat off the seats, seriously??!?
This seriously gets to me!! People that DRIP in puddles all over the floor and all over the machine and then just WALK AWAY without even so much as a quick wipe over....it really upsets me! :grumble:
This pisses me off more than anything.. Its usually the really young ones or the older ones0 -
This is a funny thread on BB.com that is 6 years old and 8k+ replys, lets see what you consider a gym idiot.
if you drop any dumbell under 55lbs your a gym idiot even although some lifts there is not reason to drop weight at all
Screamers that you can hear over your head phones
People who do curls in the squat racks
Lets hear what you got
My biggest pet peeve:
Holding Onto Treadmill Bars For Dear Life As They Crank The Treadmill As Fast As It Will Go
if you have to hang onto the treadmill bars then you're not working out, you're being dragged.
I rest my hands on/hold on to the treadmill bars, simply to keep my balance as I'm getting used to the feel of walking on the treadmill. I'm very clumsy and I don't want to fall over. I still only have it on like 6km/hr though.0 -
Has anyone else witnessed someone using the gym provided hair dryers to dry out their crotch?!? This one larger older woman at my gym puts one leg up on the bench, spreads em wide, and then proceeds to thoroughly dry herself. :noway:
There are some things you just cannot un-see!!!
LOL!!! There is a mother daughter duo who "hang out" in the locker room in thier birthday suit.. painting thier nails or whatever... I'm sure if they knew about this trick it would get them out of the gym even quicker...lol0 -

That is DISGUSTING. You win.0 -
Massive upper body and twig legs.
There was a guy at my gym several years ago that had the opposite. He had insanely large thighs and the rest of his body was small. My husband and I used to refer to him as "scary thigh guy".0 -
Do I sense some jealousy, or maybe some misplaced anger?
If someone is paying their 30-40 dollars a month to go to the gym and stand in clown makeup, I could care less. I am there to work out, if they are affecting my ability to do so, then I get pissed.
I find things rather humorous though; The old men talking to the young women with their balls hanging out, the dudes yelling and getting all into their ability to lift something heavy, the really fat guy giving advice to other people working out etc.
The things that actually affect my work outs that piss me off; not cleaning up your sweat, the *kitten* hole that is running to each punching bag in the room (20 of them) and striking a few and then running laps around the entire room occasionally hitting a different bag every time (just annoying as hell) the people that leave all the gym provided equipment laying around making me move it or put it away so I can use that area and the guys in the basketball court playing 3 on 3 full court, or the guy that is just shooting indicating to me that he has the court first and to give him 15 minutes; really you cannot stand to have one other person shoot to the same basket ? Yeah those affect my workouts, therefore I get pissy and by all means I say something.
hey that boxing **** is an anerobic drill and a hell of a workout...we call it "gang fight" drops your weight like nothing else.0 -
To clarify the makeup at the gym thing...
Come from work and straight into the gym? Fair enough.
Specifically applied a FULL face of makeup with mascara and lipliner, selected your nicest bang on trend outfit with cool shades pushed atop your head and all your fancy jewellery on? You probably aint there to work out hard and get sweaty.
There are exceptions to every generalisation, but that's probably true in the majority of cases. You know the people I'm talking about here.
The same would be true in reverse.. At a trendy nightclub or a posh restaurant in your tracky bottoms, beaten up running shoes and sweaty vest? You're an idiot.
No offense...0 -
A repeat offense is talking on a cell phone when there are huge signs that say it's forbidden. One time this girl got on an elliptical next to me and not only was it annoying that she was talking while people are trying to concentrate, she was talking about personal, embarrassing stuff. A gym idiot also doesn't wipe the machines down.0

I'm about to use the indoor track at my university's gym for the first time today, so I haven't encountered this problem at the gym yet. I have at the park, however. Constantly dodging ducks, children, and dogs! I know it's a public place and people are there to do different things than jog/walk, but it's annoying how the general public is not concerned about anyone else but themselves. Please listen for joggers!
That doesn't include the ducks. I don't expect the ducks to listen for joggers.0 -
Brought your handbag into the weights room.
Full face of makeup.
1 set, update your facebook status on your iphone, next machine.
I'm guilty of the makeup thing - but I go to the gym right after work, and I wear makeup to work. Weekend gym seshes = clean face.
Same here. I go to the gym after class. So, I do put on a little eyeliner and then get back home to a smudgy face.0 -
FYI, on the crotch to hair dryer thing...
When I was doing medical internship, my attending recommended that for herpes patients to heal their lesions and reduce symptoms. So...AVOID. AVOID AT ALL COSTS0 -

That annoys me too! I was at the gym the other day and I was going through my normal routine. I wanted to go onto the abdominal but there was a very sweaty man using it. I was a few machines down doing some leg strength training. After the guy was done on the machine I was waiting for, he got up, and didn't wipe it off. I looked at the machine and almost threw up.
I'm the gym rat that thoroughly cleans the machine after I use it, but, recently I been cleaning it before I use them too.0 -
Full face of makeup.
Well not quite a full face, but powder, mascara, lip balm. There's no way I is going outside make-up less:bigsmile: Don't care what no one says.
Mind you I've seen girls wearing what looks like make-up for a night out including false eyelashes :noway: :noway: :noway:0 -

I feel self conscious if i don't wear make up, so i wear it.
If others have a problem with my mascara and lip balm then tuff really.
As long as i feel good inside and I'm not offending anyone then it's all good.0 -
Ok.. here is my pet peeve, parents who bring their kids into the gym and leave them unsupervised. They allow them if they are 12 and up. While the parents are busy working out, the kids are "playing" on the equipment. It's one thing if the parents are helping their kids workout, but that's not the case. Last week a mom left her two boys in the lap pool area. There are limited lanes to swim in, and they were taking up two of them horsing around while she was upstairs in the gym area. This is not a YMCA.. it's a 24 hour Fitness. I'd say she was an idiot.0

With the make up thing.... I always heard that it was bad for your skin to work out with the make up on. Your pores open up, the makeup gets in and you end up with blemishes.
I remove all makeup at night and when I go to the gym in the morning, they all see my face au naturel. I am not a person who "must" wear make up no matter what... I am pretty without it!0 -
The too "buff" guys that look like they are on roids that go to the gym and just walk around. There are about 4 of those at my gym, and I swear, I have never seen them on a machine, ever.
And I hate the girls and their make-up. My sister and her friend are like that. When getting ready for the gym, it takes them 20 minutes to put make-up on. Really?!0 -
Yup...Its the only time I can get a work out in...and I do not sweat a lot (thank goodness) and I don't stink....so yup....
I had a roommate once that also thought she didn't stink...

I've smelled quite a few ladies that didn't realize that glistening has an odor too. I dont get it. I may go to sleep or to the grocery store with just a spot shower, but I'd never spend a full day in contact with people without a shower.0 -
When I joined the gym, I literally had no idea what I was doing. I walked to the gym manager and said to him, "I have no idea what I am doing", hahaha. Luckily I was given a free consultation with a personal trainer for joining the gym and she helped me make a plan and showed me how to use the machines.
When I am at the gym, I work my butt off. I sweat everywhere, but I have good etiquette. I clean after myself on every machine and am respectful to others. So when I am doing something wrong or I could be doing something better, the 'regulars' help me out and it is great.
However, there have been a lot of new people at the gym lately and they have NO respect whatsoever! This one girl was literally just sitting on a machine texting the entire time. Usually I don't give a crap what you do - it's your time, not mine, but don't use a machine as a chair then get an attitude when I ask if you are done or resting. Jeeze, really grates my nerves.0 -
I came across a few irritations over the last few days. (and I never had any issues until the New Year..so yeah...)
One guy.. probably 18/19? Sat on a bike for a good 15 minutes... not even peddling. Just sat there taking up a bike. Then when he finally decided to do something, he went to a treadmill. He SOAKED the treadmill in the disinfectant spray. I have no problem with people wiping down the machines before they work out, but I swear he used half a bottle and sprayed it all right on the machine. The rules at my gym say to spray the spray in to the towel, not on the machine. Then he walks for maybe 2 minutes.. and stops. Stands there for another 10 minutes. Starts the machine up again.. he walks around a 3.2 speed. (I can see what he is doing, cause I am on a bike right behind him) Then a few minutes in, he bumps the machine to 12 mph! 12 mph! He obviously can't keep up and runs it for maybe 15 seconds... then slows the machine back down to 3.2 and walks for maybe 10 more minutes... bumps the machine up to 12 again. He does this three times. Then an older gentleman.. who might have been his father, comes over and he brags to him about how he ran at 12 MPH. Puh lease. That did nothing for you but make you look obnoxious, because the treadmill was ROARING over the entire gym. Just totally irritated me.
Yesterday a woman in her 50's, fake dark dark tan, BIG hair all done, make up on, in her hot pink juicy couture track suit gets on the treadmill next to my husband. She puts the treadmill on some ridiculous incline and then holds on for dear life to not fall backwards. (she was barely power walking too.) She did this for MAYBE 10 minutes, then went to the locker room. Really??
And the one that irritated me a few days ago. Two friends who were on treadmills side by side... having a full blown conversation for a good 20-30 minutes. I could hear them over my music they were laughing so loud. I'm sorry, but if you can hold a full conversation with your neighbor, you are not working hard enough.
I also hate the girls who come in all nice looking and look at me weird, because my face is bright red (can't help it... I am a red faced runner.) and my shirt is drenched in sweat when I leave. Sorry gals... I came here to work my *kitten* off, not to try to pick up a date.
I'm done ranting now, haha.0 -
I just thought of another one... I hate it when people come up and try to have a conversation with me. I have my headphones on and I'm busy! Leave. Me. Alone. I don't go to the gym to make friends or chit chat. It would be one thing if they were asking a question, or if they just had something quick to say, but it's always this awkward conversation that I'm desperately trying to end.
The worst is when they don't get the hint either - when I just take out one earbud and hold it right by my ear indicating that I'd like to put it back in. I feel bad because I don't want to be mean, but I'm an inch away from snapping at one of these people! :explode:
There are a few people at my gym that I see all the time because we're clearly on a similar schedule. We tend to give each other a little nod/smile and go on with our workout. That is how it should be done!0 -
I just thought of another one... I hate it when people come up and try to have a conversation with me.
Move to Boston. Then NO ONE will come up to you to have a conversation.0 -
