  • If you can do it for a half hour straight with no break, then it's exercise. Of course telling your partner "come on honey, it's time for me to exercise and get my heart rate up" daily can ruin your sex life. It would get old after a week.

I could pretty much guaruntee that my husband would disagree.... In fact, he suggested it as a way he could "help" me on my fitness journey.

I get it so infrequently that it definitely isn't a daily activity...! I only see the lover once a week at best, at least it goes on for a few hours each time though. :-P I should probably log it....

Yet cleaning is classed? And the cal burn is fairly good. How do know if it's light or vigorous? Is it one of those u have fallen out with ur man and take out on the house cleaning it? So it's vigorous rather than just putting the Hoover round?

Wear an HRM the next time you "do it", and log the burn.

I only log "cleaning" if it is outside of my usual routine. Which, for me, is doing any actual cleaning. I pay someone to do that for me. :-) I should feel bad about that as I live alone in a 1 bedroom flat but heck, its a quality of life thing.

sex does raise the heart rate but most conventional wisdom is that it's not LONG enough to classify as actual EXERCISE. IF you are having sex - for a half hour or more, I guess that's exercise but c'mon, get real. 5 mins of heart racing isn't exercise

I wouldn't count it or log it but I would maybe use it as an excuse to work off some drinks.

My bf and I usually take about 45-90 mins and it's pretty vigourous work, for both of us. When I get my new HR monitor I'm going to do some research.

    5 mins? Really?
  • for me this goes right along with house work. If I do it everyday or most days anyway...before and after the weight loss/gain then it is a regular activity that is nothing "extra" to log as something I did to burn. Now with that said...if I never had sex and then I did...I may log it because it was extra for me that day...same with my cleaning...if I do something I normally don't do everyday I will go ahead and log it because it is something I normally wouldn't have done. But if you a regular cleaner, or regularly have sex, then no it is part of your normal calories burn by your daily activity level.

There used to be Sex as an option in the exercise tab. It's not there anymore, but I'd definitely consider it exercise.

I do, but only if I break a sweat doing it. We both wore an HRM for a session to guage the burn, then we used MFP's tool to create an exercise.

However, for the "slow and sweet" kind, we don't log it. Only for the vigorous and calorie-burning type :)
  • I was seriously wondering if u would class sex or masterbation as exercise? And if u would what kind of sport could u put it under for the right calorie burn? I have googled this and there have been a lot of different views on this. The way I look at it u use ur arms legs back stomach chest muscles for this ur heart rate goes up so surely it would be a calorie burning exercise would it not?

Masterbation? I dont get all crazy when I'm by myself.....

I'd say no. Sex should be a daily activity. Just like walking to your car or cleaning.

I guess it depends if you're doing it on a treadmill, like a superset

I would just classify it as it is. If you are having casual not aggressive sex I wouldn't call it any thing than that. If you are having pick them up rough putting holes in the wall sex then I would definitely log that. I mean, if you can seriously harm yourself by pulling a muscle or doing some lifting during it you are definitely burning something especially if you have more too lose.

I have been more sore after sex in some cases than a work out, so there has to be something there.

Maybe log "wrestling" as I have seen posted here before, then cut the time in half.
