I spent some time in Italy this summer (hard life, I know) and the greatest thing was that absolutely every woman on the beach wore a bikini. I saw some rockin' grandmas in two pieces. I guess it's just being comfortable in your body... and how much of it you want to tan :)
  • you can wear a bikini if you feel comfortable in a bikini.
if you are self concious at your starting weight you still will be at your goal weight

Wow I have such better things to do at the beach than sit around critiquing people's swimwear choices

Wear what you want. Always. It's no one's business what you put on your body. Learn to stop caring what other people may or may not be thinking.

    Hey everyone.

at what weight/size do you believe it is acceptable to wear a bikini?

    Discuss :)

Reactively, as long as it is appropriate ~ venue and company sensitive.

For me there are relationships which will prevent me from being inappropriately attired in front of them. Strictly no bikinis allowed is only applied when I'm in the company of the senior members of the clan or during a traditional cultural guests-list picnic *IF and when wearing a bikini is an option whilst socialising, wearing a coverall above it at all times is mandatory ~ no matter the weight/size/body shape, where the length of the coverall is to be ankle to floor length. Baring the chest and arms is acceptable ~ baring the legs are disallowed.

How my Mum has attired herself over the years, is considered acceptable wear. She's now a UK 6 and is 5ft 5.

    * With the sensitivity to dress code appropriateness, my sister and I generally gravitate towards monokinis as our compromise.

Since I've lost a bunch of weight and have fairly decent abs and shoulders, which are now my best features, i wear one. I discovered last summer that wearing a one piece or even a tankini hides my best features and highlights my worst, my thighs. So I wear a bikini, even with huge thighs.

I wore my black triangle bikini at 150 and felt perfectly fine. That's *my* "bikini weight." Everyone is going to have a different point at which they feel comfortable.
  • Whenever you feel confident enough to do it seems to be the pervasive answer. For me personally, it's when I'm a size 12 or under (I'm 5'8). I felt most confident in one when I was a 4/6. Right now I'm in a size 8/10 and don't feel as confident because of my stomach but have been wearing bikinis anyway. All that being said, I have some friends who are shorter than I am and wear bikinis at size 16 and look fabulous. Like everyone else has said, It depends on your confidence, fitness level, and height. :)
