LADIES: GYM ATTIRE; OPINION POLL

My gym has a dress code of sorts.....no midriff showing, etc. It's a gym, not a meat market for Christ's sake. I love my gym....the people are average Joe's, and we're in there to work. hard.0

I wear those kind of clothes for a number of reasons
1) It makes me feel good about myself knowing I look good
2) I get to see every muscle flex when I work out (then you know you're doing it right!)
3) My husband likes it, too
4) My husband and I get a kick out of people giving me looks.
5) I like the compliments. who doesn't.
Unfortunately, the majority of people wearing revealing clothing SHOULD NOT!0 -
definitely dont go the baggy pants/tshirt route...i wear yoga pants and a tight tank top...if ur working out hard you get friggen hot as hell so im not gona wear a ton of stuff and get overheated to avoid the occasional look...but im definitely not prancing around in booty shorts and a sports bra...0

Gawd, reading this makes me wish there was a workout place at the senior center.
From, An Old Lady! LOL0 -
In all fairness, I'm still quite large, but when I run, I wear fitted tops and bottoms. It's not that I'm trying to show off anything, believe me, but because I've found that it's a LOT more comfortable to run that way, not to mention being cooler. I do run early mornings or late evenings when the area I like to run in isn't as populated, but there have been times when people have stopped to stare at me, and it doesn't feel like it is in a good way, so yeah, it is upsetting. Perhaps they're gawking at the fat girl running, or maybe they're genuinely checking me out, and I'm just not confident enough to tell the difference, but either way, I don't appreciate them making me feel uncomfortable.
So if a woman dresses a certain way, it may not be because she is begging to be started at, but because it is genuinely the most comfortable, and if she catches you staring and doesn't appreciate it, shrug it off and move on to the next one.0 -
i just want to say-
(trust me i wear a shirt... )
i do as a girl like to be inspired. There are some very strong girls that look good - like i want to look- it's nice to be inspired... i think strong girls at the gym should get to wear a sports bra athletic stuff- the fact that we judge them for instantly being sluts and attention *kitten* might be - well lady like ha! whats wrong with being proud of that 6 pack!!
If guys ogle well- whatever they do that no matter what- they're guys... i personally don't want to go to a gym where every lady is covered up wearing sweat pants and baggy t's- be proud!!! you're working it! and you make me want to work hard!
granted i was a gym once where a girl was wearing a trucker hat and jeans on a treadmill... that might be a little slutty0 -
sports bra and short shorts? I would NEVER subject anyone, male or female to me in those clothes!!!!lol....I wear sweat pants and a big tee shirt,when...WHEN I lose another 20lbs it may be long shorts and a big tee shirt. My days of guys gawking are but a fond memory anyway....0

Because they only want to be found attractive by the right people. Women only want to be noticed by the attractive guys (I don't mean just looks, I mean attractive as a package - personality, humour, friendliness all come into that too). None of us want people we don't find attractive staring at us. But we DO want the others to do so. It's a dilemma!0
-
I wear yoga pants and a tee shirt when I work out. But boy let me tell you, if I could/felt confident to I would wear just a tank top or a sports bra. Because I get fricken hot and sweaty.
I think we as people need to stop looking at other people who look better then us and saying oh look at that girl, shes dressed so skimpy, shes an attention wh*re. Just my opinion, but as someone who used to do that constantly, I just need to say that its not the issue with them, its that we have issues with ourselves.0 -
I think it's so annoying when girls do that. I'm going to the gym to get a good workout in, not trying to look good.
This. I wear yoga pants and an old teeshirt, get in, do my workout, and get out. Mind you I'm not much to look at anyway since I'm still fat
Not based off your pic, Nice stems!0 -
Also, loving the sexism here, yeah some girls dress for attention, but to presume that they are because they're in a sports vest and shorts is sooooooooo disgusting.
A girl dresses that way to cool down, a guy drooling over her because obviously any girl with her legs and tummy out is nothing but an attention seeking sex object, and then the guy complains when the girl dares to object to the stares?
I mean, I know guys that take their tops off at the gym when they get too hot, and no one accuses them of being attention seeking *kitten*.
If I was confident enough in my body to strip down when I was too hot, I probably wouldn't appreciate being treated like a b!tch if I objected to guys staring at me just cuz I had a bit of flesh on show. It's your issue if you can't see a woman's body as anything other than a sexual object.
I agree with this too. I have been known to do gardening in just a bra on hot days. Doesn't mean I am looking for attention. It just means it's hot.0 -
I'm a huge fan of the female body and enjoy seeing attractive women... That being said. I absolutely hate it when Women wear super skimpy stuff at the gym. I feel like its a distraction and I'm not there to look or be distracted. I'm there to get healthy and strong. Maybe I just need to work on my concentration more.0
-
All of the women at my women-only group fitness studio dress that way. None of us want attention. We don't like tshirts sticking to us. We get very hot, especially in kickboxing. In the summer, we don't like long pants. We wear snug clothing because it stays put when soaked in sweat. Your argument is invalid.0

are you serious right now? please tell me this is a joke. how about YOU don't look instead of blaming the woman for wearing something she's comfortable in.0 -
Woah, so much judgment!
Some people show up and don't appear to be working out to your standards because they're tired, feeling under the weather, under doctor's orders, have an underlying medical condition, starting a new workout plan and unsure of what to do...whatever the reason may be, why does it matter? Focus on you and your workout.
I wear semi-fitted to fitted clothing because
1. it's easier to correct my form and
2. I'm less likely to snag a fitted t-shirt on a barbell.
Sometimes I wear tight, tiny shorts. Standard length shorts bunch up. Loose-fitting shorts turn you into a flasher. Sometimes I think the gym is going to be really warm, sometimes I need to do laundry and the short shorts are the only clean bottoms I own. Chances are I won't catch you staring because I'm too busy focusing on my own workout. Enjoy the scenery but please, don't hog the squat rack.0 -

Its kind of human nature to look. He isn't blaming them, he is just saying that for him personally he finds it distracting. He just admitted he need to work on his own concentration, you did not need to get defensive and jump down his shorts about it.0 -

Girl, if you can rock short shorts more power to you IMO.0 -
Perhaps the OP is just suggesting ... look hot, dress hot, then be comfortable with me staring at your fun parts.
I would never talk to you, but can't I appreicate a painting I like?
If I don't say anything, but stare at your chesticles bouncing a bit while you are on the treadmill, am I bad person?!?
I mean there isn't that much in the gym to hold my attention as ESPN is running the same god damn 10 Clips over and OVER AND OVER! I will just focus on you bumpy rumpy while I try to keep pace. I'm not drooling just staring! is vision soooo terrible!?0 -
Loose-fitting shorts turn you into a flasher.
Yep, and the last thing you want to be caught wearing on the hip abductor machine is loose shorts. :laugh:0 -

No midriff showing? What not even sports crop tops??0 -
I have to admit I love looking at a beautiful woman but the better shape I get in the more I appreciate the women warriors in the gym
Awww....that's awesome!!0 -
I wear the tight yoga pants and tops from Lululemon when I work out. I get dirty looks from the women but I don't care. I got it, I'm gonna flaunt it.
Well...I take it back...I'm as flat as a 10 year old boy but I got a 4 pack, so I'm gonna flaunt it!0 -

And those tops are wicked cute, a little pricey but cute.0 -
Not all women who wear shorts and a sports bra to pretend they don't want the attention.
A lot of women (I was one of those women before I stopped going to the gym) and I wore those clothes because I sweated like a pig and wearing more clothing was not an option.
Yes a lot wear the clothing for attention, but not everyone,.
this ^
When I used to go to the gym (I have a treadmill indoors now and cycle outside, so rarely go to the gym nowadays), I used to wear three quarter length bottoms, a sports bra with a crop top over the top. Not so I would get looked at, but because I used to sweat like a pig too and the bra and top would be enough support for my bust. A normal tee-shirt wasn't supportive enough.
I would be in that gym, do my training and back out. My phone would not even be with me, let alone me texting
This is me too.0 -
I am not at the gym to look like a Goddess.0

I'm surprised at all the agreement this got from women.
The original post absolutely rubbed me the wrong way and, to me, is remniscent of slutshaming and victimblaming in our rape culture. The one that tries to justify harrassing women on the street (or raping them) by telling us "she was asking for it" by dressing a certain way. Clearly, I am by no means saying that the OP is a rape apologist, it's just the whole idea of saying that the way a woman chooses to dress says anything about who she is, what she wants, or who she wants it from is troubling to me.0 -
I wear make-up and dress in workout clothes that I feel good in so I have more confidence in myself. There are ginormous mirrors all over the gym and I don't want to keep looking at myself in the mirror all frumpy with baggy clothes and pale eyes with no eyebrows! The better I feel about myself, the more motivated I am to stay work it! I am not there for anyone but me!0

A lot of people don't want to admit that the issue is themselves not the other people that look better, or are smarter, or have more money then them. We pick others apart so we don't have to acknowledge our own flaws. Human, mostly female, nature.
This is also why girls hate each other.0 -

Then do what you need to do! And rock it.0 -
OMG in the spin class i've been going to there are 2 ladies that wear a ton of make up but it's not done well- tons of bright pink blush and neon eyeshadow needless to say they look like crying clowns by the end of the class.0
