LADIES: GYM ATTIRE; OPINION POLL

OMG in the spin class i've been going to there are 2 ladies that wear a ton of make up but it's not done well- tons of bright pink blush and neon eyeshadow needless to say they look like crying clowns by the end of the class.
No judgement but that sounds hilarious.0 -
Because they want the attention and then act like they don't want the attention because they don't want to come off as attention *kitten*.
I was thinking the same thing!0 -
Women who wear extremely revealing clothing to the gym (and in general) WANT to be looked at, for whatever "ego-related" reason they have -- insecurity, wanting to look a certain way, wanting the attention from men (some women don't feel valuable unless men give them attention), etc. Regardless, that's their prerogative.
I ignore it completely. When I'm in my zone, I barely have a clue what's going on around me...though I will say, there was a woman at my gym a few months back who wore non fitted short shorts and NO UNDERWEAR. I could see EVERYTHING, and that's repulsive. No class whatsoever. Funny thing is, that was at an all-women's gym.
I'm more drawn to people who are there for themselves, to kill themselves with every workout. I couldn't be bothered with the princesses; let them do their thing, so long as they don't get in my way. lol0 -
I'm surprised at all the agreement this got from women.
The original post absolutely rubbed me the wrong way and, to me, is remniscent of slutshaming and victimblaming in our rape culture. The one that tries to justify harrassing women on the street (or raping them) by telling us "she was asking for it" by dressing a certain way. Clearly, I am by no means saying that the OP is a rape apologist, it's just the whole idea of saying that the way a woman chooses to dress says anything about who she is, what she wants, or who she wants it from is troubling to me.
A lot of people don't want to admit that the issue is themselves not the other people that look better, or are smarter, or have more money then them. We pick others apart so we don't have to acknowledge our own flaws. Human, mostly female, nature.
This is also why girls hate each other.
I get what you're saying. I don't believe that women are naturally and intrinsically programmed to hate other women. I think a large part of it is that our society teaches us that a) a woman's value is largely based in the way she looks and b) the myth of male weakness that implies that men are so weak-minded, primitive and biologically driven that if a woman walks by in a short skirt they can't help but oogle, if she comes onto him when she's drunk he can't help but take advantage of her etc. This myth is a large part of why women "hate each other" and slutshame eachother. How many times have you seen a man cheat on a woman, and then the girlfriend HATES the other woman and blames her entirely(he couldn't help it, boys will be boys, etc) while forgiving her boyfriend? In my opinion, once society learns that everyone (male or female) is fully responsible for her or her own actions (sexual or otherwise), and that other people's sexual/clothing/life choices are none of our damn business, women will be on their way to ending the unnecessary and instant competition/criticism with other women.0 -
I get very, very hot and sweaty when I work out, so I wear as little as I'm comfortable wearing.
But I also don't get upset if men happen to look at me, so ...
Generally, I'm not the woman getting attention in the gym, though. It is not my most attractive time.0 -
well, I guess if that's where they want to meet guys, it's better then the bars, at least the guys you meet at the gym want to stay in shape. But I do agree that if you are dressing like that then you have to expect the looks from others, And for those who do their hair and make up before going to the gym, wow, that's just crazy.0

I wear bootie shorts ad a tight fitting tank top...I don't do it for the attention...It's a comfort thing for me....I cannot squat in pants..can't do it..I get too hot..hence the shorts..I don't do the bra top...that's just not my thing.0
-
When I was fit I would wear cropped yoga pants and a sports bra and everyone was right- I liked the attention but I wasn't a witch about it. I dreaded the hard workouts I was putting in and it was motivating for me to get my butt there and to know I'd get admiring glances by hot guys! (And yeah, I actually worked out hard.)
If girls are putting it out there, it's because they like the attention. If they are acting all witchy about you looking, they are just playing games. Stick with the happy girls!0 -
Yes, girls who wear booty shorts and a sports bra are craving the attention from guys. I get the whole I'm proud of my body thing, but girls can still look sexy with a tank top and yoga pants on. And from my experience at my gym...usually the overly tan, makeup wearing, barely dressed girls are there purely to meet guys...bc they hardley work out. They just walk around aimlessly in a pack lol...Sooo, girls: show off ur hot figure in a flattering way0
-
I wear those kind of clothes for a number of reasons
1) It makes me feel good about myself knowing I look good
2) I get to see every muscle flex when I work out (then you know you're doing it right!)
3) My husband likes it, too
4) My husband and I get a kick out of people giving me looks.
5) I like the compliments. who doesn't.
Unfortunately, the majority of people wearing revealing clothing SHOULD NOT!
AMEN!!!0 -
Not all women who wear shorts and a sports bra to pretend they don't want the attention.
A lot of women (I was one of those women before I stopped going to the gym) and I wore those clothes because I sweated like a pig and wearing more clothing was not an option.
Yes a lot wear the clothing for attention, but not everyone,.0 -

hey i give them props for working out in make up but the end product is hilarious. i agree with everyone on here that we're at the gym to sweat and i for on sweat buckets. i wear 2 shirts- the wicking kind and it still doesn't contain the sweat.0 -
When I see a fit girl working her *kitten* off in cute workout clothes...i kick it up a notch cuz im like..oh yea..i want that body lol0

This is why I go to an all ladies gym. The funny thing is that my ladies only gym has a dress code. "Sports bras are not shirts and not aloud to worn as such". I feel very comfortable there.0

See I wouldn't get enough support up top without wearing my sports bra AND a sports crop top, I would be sodded if I would wear a tee-shirt over the top into the bargain, I would pass out with the heat :laugh:0 -
the sluttier the better0
-
I wear the tight yoga pants and tops from Lululemon when I work out. I get dirty looks from the women but I don't care. I got it, I'm gonna flaunt it.
Well...I take it back...I'm as flat as a 10 year old boy but I got a 4 pack, so I'm gonna flaunt it!
[/quote] You made me laugh out loud with that one. Good for you. You work hard for that 4 pack. Flaunt it!!!0 -
Ok so hears the deal. I was wanting you girls opinion on something I've wondered for a long time. Most women don't wanna be gawked at in the gym or they act as if they dont. BUT WHY do you wear such revealing clothes. By all means I'm a fan, but when the girl shows up with her shorts rolled up and a sports bra on, you can't help but look!!!! Its like if you got it flaunt it (which at my gym they do) so don't act all shocked if every guy in the gym is checking you out when your doing your leg kicks/yoga stretches in the ab room!
I wear yoga pants and usually a tight tank top or tight t-shirt over my sports bra not because I feel a need to flaunt anything but because I work out at a gym where we're doing bear crawls and funky moves and I don't like loose clothes that hang off me and get in the way. That's all. The only time I've stripped down to shorts and a sports bra was in hot yoga because holy frick I thought I was going to die and needed my shirt to soak up some more sweat....

I don't wear these things because I really shouldn't but sometimes I wish I did! Has no one ever thought that many women dress like this because wearing a sweaty pair of pants and shirt sucks? If it was really always all about being looked at, why do people I know dress like this to do yardwork, clean, aerobics in their living room? It's because they are damned hot when working out.
I could turn it around, why do guys wear those stupid sleeveless shirts with the holes to the hips? I'll bet money that though some wear it because they think it's sexy, most are wearing them because they allow breeze and such while still being covered.0 -
I wear what I am comfortable in...I, too sweat a lot..Makeup I wear where ever I go..not a lot, but always put on my eyeliner before I go out. always have some type of lip gel on(lips are always so dry)...If I mow my grass I still wear my makeup (I don't wear a lot), makeup for me is j ust like brushing my teeth..I'm not dressed if I don't put on my makeup after I put on my clothes for workout or what ever I am doing!!! If you feel good about yourself wear what you are comfortable in, skimpy, baggy, short or tight and regardless men in general will still stare---they can't help themselves---0
-
Perhaps the OP is just suggesting ... look hot, dress hot, then be comfortable with me staring at your fun parts.
I would never talk to you, but can't I appreicate a painting I like?
If I don't say anything, but stare at your chesticles bouncing a bit while you are on the treadmill, am I bad person?!?
I mean there isn't that much in the gym to hold my attention as ESPN is running the same god damn 10 Clips over and OVER AND OVER! I will just focus on you bumpy rumpy while I try to keep pace. I'm not drooling just staring! is vision soooo terrible!?
hahahaha...."chesticles bouncing". Hey, he's honest girls, and this is just the way 99.9% of men are built. You wear it, you should expect to be oogled (and, I'd bet most of you enjoy the oogling.....nuthin' wrong with that either). I wear tight fitting yoga pants and tank so it doesn't get hung up on the equipment, but I wouldn't consider it sexy wear. No belly or booty showing. If you got it and wanna flaunt it, all power to you. But, don't pick on the guys because they are pointing out that it IS provocative and distracting in a sense.0 -
I usually have my hair and makeup at least partially done, because I'm always coming from work or something. So that's a pretty legitimate excuse for people who are too ready for the gym. But yeah, if I could get away with wearing revealing clothes, I'd be all over it too.. lol.0

That's me. I wear a certain style of underwire bra, then my sports bra and then my sports top with a built in bra. THEN and only then can I do jumping jacks and get serious with my work out0 -

HUH? Yeah, no. I wear baggy everything. I'm there to work out. Although I have seen some chicks that look like they belong on a street corner rather than the gym...0 -

I run so that is bouncing up and down too. It don't half hurt if the support isn't there doesn't it.0 -
Sometimes if I am doing a cardio heavy workout and I know I am going to be sweating a lot (especially because my gym is always so, so warm ) I'll wear a sports bra and shorts. Not to get attention, I don't care if people want to look but ultimately I am there to work out. That's a rarity though, I usually wear a comfortable top and leggings or shorts.
Aaaaand as for the makeup thing, I am guilty of it but only when coming straight from work. I work directly across from my gym haha usually the makeup sweats off and I end up looking like a mess but I don't really care.0 -
To me, it depends on what I am there to do. If I am taking a class I will wear a t-shirt and my spandex capris. If I am going to lift or run I might wear shorts and my sports bra top that covers. I would show what I want to flaunt and right now that is my toned arms and legs. Plus like to show up the guys when I can lift more than them....LOL
*the sports bras I wear are like the sports tanks...I could think of that when I posted.0 -
gosh dang that is so going to be me someday and you can look all you want but don't touch!!0
