    1981. Great year for music!

I remember when MTV first came out - when they actually played music videos (imagine that!) and not the crappy shows they have on now.
It was great to grow up in a time where children weren't treated like the fragile little snowflakes that they're treated like today. A couple years ago I was shopping in the baby toy section and saw some "wooden" alphabet blocks that weren't wooden at all - they were foam! I remember getting my fingers slammed between the wooden blocks in kindergarten by some jerk who wasn't digging how I was building my block tower. I cried like hell.
That's what childhood should be all about - learning the parameters of the environment through a little pain and eating dirt without getting (or hell, even getting) botulism.

Much love back to all of my fellow MFPeeps who were born in the 80's!

1984, My first word was Cyndi. As in Cyndi Lauper. When her video came on, I would rush in my walker to the TV. To this day I still love her. XD

I was Wonder Woman for my first Halloween, my favorite toy as a toddler was a Sit-n-Spin, and my first "big girl" room was Strawberry Shortcake and Rainbow Brite!

    1981 here too.

I was Rainbow Brite for Halloween when I was 6. And I had Strawberry Shortcake EVERYTHING!!

My parents recorded Rainbow Brite on VHS tapes for me so I would sit and watch tv when they were busy...lol! Loved Care Bears also.
  • Being born in the eighties would mean missing out on the fun! Like Michael Jackson's Thriller, Madonna (young) and leg warmers! Cool bright colors and stripes and huge hair. Oh, and the hair bands, like Motley Crue, Van Halen, and the beginning of MTV, when MTV was really all about music videos. Which were unheard of before MTV.

Being in my twenties in the eighties was so much fun. Amazing movies like Flashdance and The Breakfast Club and St Elmo's Fire, I enjoyed everything about the eighties. Oh, and I had my kids in the eighties. They are both skinny (like I used to be, haha!)
  • I agree those born in the 80's couldnt have appreciated it like those who were old enough to enjoy the 80's. It's my favourite era - love the music especially the Smiths, U2, Ultravox, Duran Duran, I could go ON and On and ON................. LOL
