When I/my workout partners come in, the guys get out of our way. They know which corner we're going to claim, and that we're going to be needing one of those incline benches, thanks. The guys who work there call us "The Power Rangers", and occasionally a guy will come over to ask a question or give admiring encouragement. I still haven't been asked for a "spot" yet, but I'm hopeful.

I will agree with this, I go alone and I find that the men kinda want to give me room at first, then they realize they need room for them selves and get closer lol.
Some time if they see me struggling too much someone will say something nice to encourage me to keep going, I definitely feel the love and respect.
When they kinda get out of the way like that it feels really awkward and a bit embarrassing to be noticed so much, some will look up then just put their heads down and smile in between reps.
I ignore it, listen to my music and just do what I am there to do.

My trainer at the gym is an ex fitness compeditor and female. So no problems here. Plus small town gym = everyone knows each other by sight at least. So it's all pretty friendly .

All the really big bodybuilders have started go to another gym a few miles away where their 'behaviour' is more acceptable. And a blind eye is turned to their use of steroids. When they still used my gym then yeah the atmosphire in the free weights room was not exactly welcoming.
