There are 2 kinds of people at the gym....

  • If i don't listen to music, which is getting more frequent, I never talk to anyone. I despise small talk and can't do it, anyway. Annoying for all involved. I go to exercise, not have a sorority/fraternity meet 'n greet rush thing.

I must be the mysterious 3rd type of person at the gym. I don't blare music into my ears and I don't talk to everyone... I just get on my machine, turn on the tv, work out, smile at everyone, and then go home...
I'm with you - hide the elliptical or bike display with a magazine and just keep pedalling. Doesn't work on the treadmill so I have to design little plans to change the incline/speed at certain time intervals to give me something to focus on.

I always thought the two kinds of people at the gym were:
    - The people who wipe down equipment after they use it, or
    - The worst people in the universe

I read that on a blog somewhere and thought it was too funny not to share :)

    Hilarious!
  • Music. I wipe down the equipment before and after I use it; part of my OCD. LOL

Neither. I'm the one that works out with no music and enjoys the silence.

My headphones are always in. My gym plays the crappiest music. I do love Adele, but really...how are you supposed to get into a good heavy set to that? But, I am not anti-social either. Everyone at my gym is really friendly, but also understands no one wants to chat for an hour either. A quick, "hey how's it going? what are you working today? have a good workout." suffices.

The people that either have there ipods in blaring and look like they have the eye of the tiger lol or the guys that do work but talk to everybody who comes in the gym. Which one are you???:)
I don't use an Ipod lifting or doing cardio. So I'm neither when it comes to my own workout.

Ditto. I'm usually just focused on what I'm doing and off in my only little world. The place could catch on fire and I'd be the last to notice and run. And I sure don't visit with people during my workout. Maybe a bit before or after. When I'm there, I'm going to workout hard and make it count.

Definitely music...only person I really talk to is my trainer and a person here or there that I know...but for the most part, the tunes go on and I'm all business

Eye of the tiger all the way. I try not to talk to much to people as they never seem to want to stop. I am there to workout, not that I am rude or anything. But its hard for someone to start too much of a conversation with me if I cant hear them.
  • I have to have my music. In fact, I believe I may even have "Eye of the Tiger" on my gym mix. lol I also go one step further in the "don't talk to me please" type at the gym, I wear a baseball cap pulled down low over my eyes.

I have had a school gym all to my self so the music goes in the player and goes on just to keep me focused
  • Music! Mostly because I work so hard there is no breath left in my body for chit-chat - and the headphones ward off the talkers! ;-)

    I'm a talker.

But I always wipe down my machine after I'm done! So am I forgiven?

I wear the headphones so I don't have to talk to that guy but they are generally unplugged.

iPod. Loud. MetaL. if I'm on the treadmill, I sometimes find myself air-drumming (not the bass drum obviously).

Me too, especially if I'm on the Cybex. Sometimes chatting makes the time go faster and helps to increase the heart rate too. I've met lots of good friends at the gym and have friends meet me there as well to work out together.

Very different scenario for me, our gym is very social with the same core group of people there at 6am every day. We all know eachother, NO iPods allowed (unoficcially of course) but there is music played through the gym. We rip on eachother, encourage eachother, and compete with eachother through the session. The time actually flies by really fast.

Before this gym, I was definitely an iPod guy though. Get in, music on, workout, go home. I much prefer this environment though.
  • Music, or if we're the only ones there we watch the history channel and I put on my game face. If I'm working REALLY hard I probably have the "I'm walking alone in North Philly, so if you come near me I'll kick you" look, which I use when I'm walking alone in North Philly...

If I'm doing cardio its high tempo music blasting. I've never worn music in the weights room, I can't work out where to put it, feels strange to use my running strap in there! so I am no music when strength training, lots of hellos and "how many sets are you doing?s"
